  • Validation of Mechanical Property Variability in Medical-Grade Polymeric Biomaterials Used for Orthopedic Implants
Mr. Harshal Panditrao Deshmukh, Sanjay Pratapsingh Shekhawat, Ajaygiri K. Goswami
International Journal of Drug Delivery Technology, 2026
Medical-grade polymeric biomaterials, including polyether ether ketone (PEEK), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), are extensively employed in orthopedic implant systems due to their favorable mechanical performance, biocompatibility, and established clinical reliability. Nevertheless, manufacturer datasheets frequently report mechanical properties across broad ranges, which may introduce variability and uncertainty in implant design, computational modelling, and performance prediction. In the present study, Shore D hardness and compressive strength of medical-grade PEEK, PMMA, and UHMWPE were experimentally determined to establish precise mechanical property values directly relevant to load-bearing orthopedic applications. All testing was performed in accredited laboratories under standardized conditions, with specimen preparation conforming to established testing protocols. The experimentally obtained values were systematically compared with datasheet-reported ranges and previously published literature. The results revealed notable deviations from nominal datasheet values, particularly in compressive strength, underscoring the necessity of experimental validation prior to tribological evaluation or biomechanical modelling. The validated mechanical property dataset generated herein provides robust input parameters for implant design, finite element analysis, and subsequent wear characterization of medical-grade polymeric biomaterials employed in hip and knee joint prostheses

    International Journal of Thermodynamics, 2024
Experimental setup of the integrated parabolic trough collector (PTC) with solar still was developed. PTC was designed considering the solar geometry and the physical laws of parabolic shape and the concentrators. Test were conducted at the location with latitude 19.9975ON and longitude 73.7898OE. Theoretical analysis was done using ray tracing and engineering equation solver (EES) software while designing the system. PTC system was developed with dimensions of 1.5 m length, 1 m width and a concentration ratio (CR) of 21.22. Theoretical thermal efficiency was predicted as 48.1% whereas experimental average thermal efficiency is observed as 42.76%. The observed temperature difference between the vapor and the glass cover is about 17 °C and between ambient air and vapor is about 24.4 °C. Maximum water temperature in the conventional solar still was 64.6 °C where as for the PTC coupled solar still was 74.4 °C. PTC coupled solar still is having averagely 37% higher production rate. This has definitely added an advantage because of the higher energy absorption rate compared with the conventional solar still. PTC coupled solar still system has nearly 35% more heat absorption. Total embodied energy of the system is around 896.875 kWh. Total capital cost of the system is Rs. 41300/-. Total annual output of pure water is around 3 L/Day. Estimated energy payback period is around 2.29 years and the total carbon credit earned is Rs. 2165.38 per year.

  • Design and Analysis of Ventilation System for Closed Poultry House in Tropical Climate Conditions
Kapil A. Saner, Sanjay P. Shekhawat
Journal of World S Poultry Research, 2023
The climate significantly impacts the temperature in different parts of the world. A moderate environment makes it simple to construct a chicken farm. Nevertheless, raising the birds in tropical places where typical temperatures can exceed 40-45°C is difficult because they can only survive at temperatures between 30°C and 35°C. As a result, the current study aimed to design a chicken house with a ventilation and cooling system to prevent excessive heat. The effectiveness of ventilation systems in maintaining liveable and constant conditions at the chicken house was assessed using computational fluid dynamics modeling to mimic internal and external airflows. In this study, a water evaporator-based cooling system and an exhaust fan-based ventilation system were built within a poultry house. ANSYS CFD was utilized to create the design and examine the flow of the model. The findings of each model were generated individually, and these results were compared to those of the other models to determine which model could decrease the temperature within the chicken coop. The proposed model's maximum temperature was around 30-32°C. A poultry house can be constructed using this idea to maintain chickens at a suitable temperature range of 30-32°C.

Abstract This paper presents the experimental results of thermal analysis of a solar parabolic trough collector receiver. For performance improvement and regulating the temperature distribution convergent divergent receiver tube is used. For performance improvement spiral tape as insert is used inside the convergent divergent receiver tube. Average Reynolds number during the experimentation varied from 15 000 to 22 000. With use of diverging receiver tube and spiral tape average Nusselt number was increased by 9.21% and overall heat transfer coefficient by 13.2%. Thermal efficiency of the system was increased by 30% compare with conventional constant diameter receiver tube. From the results of experiments and heat loss observations cap type receiver proposed with converging receiver. Experimental results used for development of artificial neural network prediction model using nonlinear autoregressive network with exogenous inputs (NARX). The developed model has mean square error of 5.81 and the regression coefficient 0.95. Thus, the model has a good predictability.
  • Performance Assessment of Parabolic Trough Collector Receiver with Al2 O3 Nanofluid
    Milind Patil, Sanjay Shekhawat
Journal of Water and Environmental Nanotechnology, 2022
This paper discusses the experimental and theoretical performance of a parabolic trough receiver using a nanofluid. The main aim of this work is to analyze the performance enhancement of the parabolic trough collector system. The thermal model is developed using Engineering Equation Solver (EES). Experimental analysis was done with a water volume flow rate of 10 L/min and water inlet temperature range from 0 to 45 OC, also the volume fraction of Al2O3 nanoparticle varied from 1% to 5%. Experimental analysis conducted using Al2O3 nanoparticle mixed with water and used as heat transfer fluid in solar parabolic trough collector. Results compared and observed that the model has very good acceptance with the experimental results. It is observed that the thermal efficiency of the collector increased by 2 to 4% and receiver heat loss decreased from 0.82% to 2.72%. The receiver water temperature increased by 15% for the range of Al2O3 nanoparticle volume fraction. This work was carried out to investigate the use of renewable energy for water heating applications on rural farms in India. Small-sized PTC is simple in construction, economical, and does not require special skills to operate. However, considering the space requirement it would be better to investigate the method to improve the performance of PTC without changing the dimensions. One way to improve the performance is with the use of nanofluids. This work’s main finding is that the Nanoparticle with a volume fraction of 4 will improve the performance. It was observed that the temperature of the water was improved by 15% and the thermal efficiency was increased by 4%.
  • Artificial Neural Based Quality Assessment of Guava Fruit
Tejas G. Patil, Sanjay P. Shekhawat
    Evergreen, 2022
Merchants and food services are very competitive, and food manufacturers are under considerable pressure not to increase end-product costs when production costs go up. External pressures causing physical texture changes or chemical color, smell, and taste alterations induce fruit tissue injury. To examine this, a novel technique is proposed to identify surface and subsurface flaws utilizing a thermal picture and ordinary digital image concerning the original guava. This study discovered thermal data for thermal image capturing on the guava samples stored in the atmosphere with a FLIR-C2 thermal camera. A systematic Image processing approach was employed to distinguish the injured tissues of the fruits that were unaffected. The total result of the identification of thermal blushes is 95 %, whereas the result of standard image processing is 62.5 %. Theory permitted to differentiate the sound from the defected fruit scorched by birds or insects in creating food processing safety policies, developing the passive thermographic method.
  • Predicting Solar Insolation Incident on Horizontal Surface for Performance Assessment of Solar Systems
    Milind S. Patil, Sanjay Shekhawat
Icsccc 2021 International Conference on Secure Cyber Computing and Communications, 2021
To monitor the performance of solar systems solar insolation is need to measure. Measuring instrument used for the measurement has very high cost and uncertainty involved is higher. Availability of such instruments in the rural area is again a challenge. This paper discusses results of developed NARX ANN model. This model will use for forecasting the solar insolation falling on the surface of the solar system developed. Many studies are going on in nearby areas of North Maharashtra University and the College of Engineering Bambhori. SSBT College of Engineering has installed solar PV with capacity 200 kW. Performance of this system is required to be monitor and identify the maintenance need. For this purpose it is necessary to know all sky solar insolation falling on the system. ANN prediction model developed which has MSE (Mean squared error) 0.01553. The regression coefficient observed was 0.9399, 0.899 and 0.880 for training, validation and testing. The overall regression coefficient was 0.92 thus the model has a good predictability and useful for predicting the solar insolation and it would be easy to monitor the performance of a installed PV plant.
