Journal of the Knowledge Economy, 2026 - Growth and Welfare Effects of Education: Evidence from Asian Countries

Panoeconomicus, 2024
Considering the potential role of education in enhancing the socioeconomic prosperity of countries, this study examines the effect of education on economic growth and household welfare in Asian countries. Static and dynamic panel data estimation techniques were employed for analysis. The findings of the study reveal a significant positive effect of education on economic growth and household welfare, with the growth effect of male education being marginally higher than female education. Interestingly, the household welfare effect of female education is revealed to be higher than male education. These findings imply that for economic growth and household welfare enhancement in the region, female education is as important as male education. Consequent to these findings, the study emphasises the need for policy measures aimed at enhancing both access and quality of education for people of all genders in the region. - Vulnerability of a developing stock market to openness: One-way return and volatility transmissions

International Review of Financial Analysis, 2024 - DO GENDER DIVERSITY AND CEO CULTURE AFFECT SUSTAINABILITY PERFORMANCE IN THE NIGERIAN BANKING INDUSTRY?

Journal of Central Banking Law and Institutions, 2024
This study investigates how gender diversity and CEO culture affect sustainability performance in the banking industry. The sample used in the study was drawn from listed banks on the floor of the NGX group. The data were obtained from the Bloomberg Database with 88 firm-year observations (2011 to 2018). The regression estimate is based on a panel data approach. We found that female directors’ and CEOs’ cultures have greater tendencies to enhance sustainability performance proxied by ESG. Thus, the findings provide additional insight into the existing literature on sustainability and diversity initiatives as well as the resource dependency theory. It also adds to the existing literature on sustainability reporting. The findings, moreover, allude to the initiatives of the regulatory authority in the industry that emphasise the need to have a diversified board that includes female directors and other forms of diversity, for example, ethnicity. - On the pursuit of energy security: evidence from the nexus between clean energy stock price and energy security elements

International Journal of Sustainable Energy, 2022
Concerns for fossil fuel price volatility, environmental pollution and energy inefficiency drive the formulation of energy policies aimed at attaining energy security. We use a theoretical framework which integrates key elements of energy security into the context of natural capital theory to investigate the causal relationship between Nasdaq clean energy stock price and a range of variables including oil price, natural gas prices, carbon price and energy efficiency. Our autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) results reveal that clean energy stock price is jointly and individually explained by the variables representing some elements of energy security. Carbon price and energy efficiency emerged as the most important elements of energy security driving the on-going transition from conventional to clean energy sources. Consequently, governments should take environmental sustainability and energy efficiency very seriously when formulating energy policies in the pursuit of energy security and the way they stimulate substitutions between clean energy sources and hydrocarbons. - On the relationship between intellectual capital efficiency and firm value: Evidence from the Nigerian oil and gas downstream sector
