In recent years, the perovskite oxides have gained attention due to their tunable oxygen vacancies, high electrical conductivity, and their adaptive catalytic behaviour which makes them valuable for environmental and energy related technologies. Among these perovskite materials Lanthanum cobaltate, (LaCoO 3 ) that is La-based perovskite is notable due to its abundance, stability and its high catalytic activity. The A-site having La 3+ and B-site transition metal configuration helps in providing adjustable electronic structure, along with efficient charge transfer, and response towards visible-light. These aspects give significant characterisation. These characteristics are significant physiochemical properties which supports pollutant degradation, hydrogen evolution, and CO 2 reduction. This review has pointed out underlying properties of LaCoO 3 and has offered a step-by-step description of the synthesis techniques, and includes Sol- gel, hydrothermal, and coprecipitation routes. Moreover, further modification plans like doping ensued heterojunction formation with tuning performance of LaCoO 3 . Importance is laid on the engineering of the LaCoO 3 -based composites, offering better charge separation, enhanced light harvesting and enhanced catalytic efficiency of degradation of organic pollutants and stimulating solar-fuel reactions. In general, the review has the implementation of the transformation of LaCoO 3 into a classical perovskite oxide to a very versatile photocatalyst, which provides a vision that guides the designing of the next-generation perovskites-based catalytic systems. - Photocatalytic performance of cerium stannate, charge-transfer mechanisms and applications in pollutant removal and hydrogen evolution

The irregular monitoring and discharge of toxic industrial effluents into water bodies are major emerging concerns in the world. Among advanced wastewater treatment techniques, photo-Fenton and photocatalytic processes for the decontamination of coloured water have gained immense consideration. FeS2, a metal sulphide, is a promising photocatalyst due to of its low energy band gap, low cost, large absorption coefficient, and easy separability. However, the practical application of pristine FeS2 remains limited by the rapid recombination of photogenerated e−/h+ pairs. Recent studies demonstrate that modification strategies such as metal/non-metal doping and heterojunction construction (type-II, Z-scheme, and S-scheme systems) markedly enhance charge separation and redox ability. Reported FeS2-based heterostructures exhibit significantly improved photocatalytic performance, achieving dye degradation efficiencies exceeding 90–99% within short irradiation times under visible light, along with enhanced reaction kinetics and stability. Comparative analysis reveals that modified FeS2 composites show broader applicability, higher mineralisation rates, and superior recyclability than pristine FeS2. Finally, the current challenges, knowledge gaps, and future research directions for FeS2-based photocatalysts are discussed. Photocatalysis is an emerging technology that harnesses solar energy to tackle energy storage and environmental issues. Among various photocatalysts, Bismuth oxybromide (Bi 4 O 5 Br 2 ) received much attention due to its finite visible light efficiency, good electrical conductivity, tunable morphology and optimal bandgap, making it suitable for various applications. Hence, Bismuth oxybromide has undergone optimisation and extensive modification to enhance its photocatalytic activity. The photocatalytic mechanism and crystalline properties are contemplated by XRD and DFT calculations. This review delivers a comprehensive overview of the recent progress of the Bi 4 O 5 Br 2 photocatalyst with its crystallographic structure. The synthesis processes of Bi 4 O 5 Br 2 – based photocatalyst are demonstrated, which include solvothermal, hydrothermal, hydrolysis method, microwave heating method, as well as microemulsion method. Further, we emphasised modification strategies to enhance photocatalytic performance, such as doping, surface defect and heterojunction formation. Subsequently, Bi 4 O 5 Br 2 -based material and its potential application in environmental remediation: photodegradation of dyes, antibiotics, organic pollutants and heavy metal removal and energy conversion, such as photocatalytic water splitting for H₂ evolution and CO₂ reduction.
