Electrical and Optical Studies on Lanthanum Bismuth Titanate Modified Boro-Bismuth Titanate Glass-Matrix Venkatesh V., Sreenivasu D., Ravinder Reddy B., Shareefuddin Md., Ramadevudu G., V. Prasad N. Ecs Journal of Solid State Science and Technology, 2025 Promising Aurivillius ceramic, namely lanthanum bismuth titanate (Bi3.25La0.75Ti3O12; BLT) was prepared by solid-state route and embedded in the glass composition of boro-bismuth titanate in different successive weight percentages. The present ceramic- glass matrix samples, (100-x) [0.70 Bi2O3−0.20 B2O3−0.10 TiO2] + x BLT (with x = 30, 40, 50, 60 wt%), were prepared by conventional melt quenching method. The X-ray diffraction studies revealed amorphous nature. Higher concentration of BLT embedded glass matrix has shown intergrowth-crystalline phase. Scanning electron microscope images have shown amorphous nature and mixed-phase for higher concentrations of BLT. The density and oxygen packing density of the samples were found to decrease with increasing the BLT composition, but an opposite trend was observed in the case of molar volume. Impedance data was measured in the frequency range of 100 Hz to 1 MHz to study the electrical response of the said above system. The complex modulus, FTIR and Raman spectroscopic plots were found to be informative to the dielectric data. Based on the decreasing trend of optical band gap energy with increasing the BLT composition and metallization criterion, one can suggest that the present samples are considered to be potential candidates for nonlinear optical applications.
Structural Investigation and Physical Properties of RO-ZnO-Li2B4O7-K2B4O7 (RO= SrO and BaO) Glasses Sarap Krishnaprasad, Mohammed Shareefuddin, Siddey Laxmi Srinivasa Rao, Ramadevudu Gokarakonda Materials Protection, 2024 Glass samples 10RO-30ZnO-xLi2B4O7-(60-x) K2B4O7 (RO=SrO and BaO) with alkali tetra borates varying from 0 to 60 mol% were produced by traditional quenching procedure. Peak free broad X-ray diffraction patterns established the amorphous feature of glass samples. FTIR and Raman spectro-scopic analysis showed the existence of BO3 and BO4 structural groups and other borate units. The BO3 ⇔ BO4 conversion rate was not much affected by variation in one of the alkali-tetrabo-rates. EPR spectra of copper doped glasses confirmed the ground state of Cu2+ ions as 2B1g. Physical and optical properties namely density, molar volume, refractive index, molar refractivity, optical band gap and Urbach energy values were found to be composition dependent. The inflections observed in density, and other optical properties around equal mol.% of alkali oxides in the glass system were attributed to structural modifications and mixed alkali effect. These results exposed the structural variations caused by competitiveness between the two different alkali and alkaline oxides in occupying the geometrical positions of the borate glass network.
Physical, Optical, and Spectroscopic Characteristics of Mixed Alkali Tetraborate Glasses RO-ZnO-Li2B4O7-K2B4O7: Impact of Alkaline Earth Oxides (R = Mg, Ca) Sarap Krishnaprasad, Md. Shareefuddin, M. Lakshmipathi Rao, G. Ramadevudu Ecs Journal of Solid State Science and Technology, 2023 Alkali tetraborate glasses 10RO-30ZnO-xLi2B4O7-(60-x) K2B4O7 (R = Mg, Ca) with x varying from 0 mole% to 60 mole% were synthesized by melt quenching approach at around 1150 °C. Broad and peak less X-ray diffraction spectra confirmed the amorphous nature of synthesized glass samples. Physical and optical properties namely density, molar volume, refractive index, optical band gaps, molar refractivity and Urbach energy values have been reported. The density of the present glass samples improved with increasing x mole% except at the presence of equal amounts of alkali oxides in the glass system. The molar volume decreased continuously with x mole%. Oxygen packing density (OPD) increased with increasing x mole%. The optical energy band gap Eopt values with increasing lithium tetraborate in the glass composition have shown a downward trend, where are refractive index values shown upward. FTIR and Raman studies revealed the variation of BO3 and BO4 units in the glasses with composition is marginal. EPR spectra of copper ions confirmed the existence of Cu2+ ions in the ground state dx 2–y 2 orbital (2B1g). The observed non-linear variations of various properties are attributed to the structural changes caused by mixed alkali effect.
