  • Shadow it – A systematic literature review

    Shadow IT coexists with mandated information systems. Developed and applied by non­IT domain experts, it is as a rule, but not exclusively, used for resolving non­routine issues, for which mandated IS does not have appropriate functions. Shadow IT solutions are not supported or controlled by IT departments. The aim of the paper is to show to which extent shadow IT has been researched, as this area has not yet received the necessary attention from both academia and business. A systematic literature review was conducted in order to find the papers covering the topic of shadow IT. The following electronic databases were searched: Web of Science (Thomson Reuters), Scopus (Elsevier), and AIS Electronic Library (The Association for Information Systems (AIS)).  More than half of the analysed papers are case studies in one or more organizations. The papers were published mostly in scientific conferences and in scientific journals. Based on the literature review, the reasons for shadow IT occurrence, the possibility of its management, as well as its advantages and disadvantages are presented. The most important conclusions and views regarding shadow IT, according to the authors’ opinion, are indicated at the end. The limitation of a systematic literature review is that only papers published in English are analysed. Besides identifying papers covering the shadow IT topics, the reasons for the emergence of shadow IT, the possibilities of its management and its advantages and disadvantages are systematized.

  • Critical success factors in erp system adoption: Comparative analysis of the private and the public sector

    This research provides useful insight into differences in the perception of signifi cance and the degree of fulfi llment of Critical Success Factors (CSFs) of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) adoption between private and public sector organizations. The survey was conducted on a sample of 77 Serbian organizations, with approximately equal representation of those from the private and the public sector. A comprehensive list of CSFs, compiled as a result of an extensive literature review, was included in the questionnaire. The collected data and statistical procedures applied revealed the CSFs that differentiate the organizations from the two observed sectors. Involvement of end users in ERP adoption and implementation activities has proven to be the CSF in relation to which the assessments and attitudes of organizations from the two sectors differ the most. Results of this research indicate that differences between private and public sector organizations are more distinct in terms of their level of fulfi llment of ERP adoption CSFs than they are in terms of their assessment of CSFs’ signifi cance. This points to a conclusion that differences in the way of functioning and governance of organizations from these two sectors infl uence their ability to tackle the problems much more than their ability to recognize them. The practical contribution of this research is in providing some useful fi ndings that can greatly assist relevant stakeholders to achieve a higher success rate in an ERP adoption. In addition to responding to the initial research questions, this paper has also revealed new issues, suggesting the need for further research.

  • Traditionalisation of agile processes: Architectural aspects

    Mechanisms of agile processes, suited for cost reduction and timely reaction to dynamic market changes, have also been recognized as useful in the development of complex software solutions. Recent studies focused on expansion of agile processes point to a viable possibility for coexistence and integration of complementary elements of agile and traditional development. Within the scope of this paper, this phenomenon is referred to as traditionalisation of agile processes. Software architecture modeling is one of the most sensitive issues associated with incorporation of elements of traditional development into agile processes. The goal of this paper was to determine how suitable particular explicit architectural practices are for incorporation into agile development processes. A mixed method research was carried out for this purpose. Qualitative component of the research resulted in identification of explicit architectural practices suitable for application in agile development processes. Their significances were determined by means of the quantitative component, realized in the form of an empirical research. The research confirmed that emergent architecture in agile processes is not sufficient for the development of complex software solutions, and that agile processes need to incorporate certain explicit architecture practices. Research results revealed that the agile community has an affirmative attitude towards the idea of incorporating explicit architectural practices into agile development processes, with overall agreement on the significances of particular explicit architectural practices for the development of architecture of complex software systems.

  • Innovation opportunities offered by wikis in higher education courses: Implementation modelling

    Abstract Research results point to the great innovation potentials of Wikis in the university teaching process, but also to problems arising in the course of their implementation. This article proposes a model for implementing a wiki within the course of Innovation Management, based on the experiences of some university wiki systems implemented earlier, and the results of a survey conducted among the students of the Faculty of Economics in Subotica. Key words: collaborative learning; innovation management; Net Generation; Web 2.0. --- Sažetak Rezultati istraživanja otkrivaju znacajne inovacijske potencijale upotrebe wikija u sveucilisnoj nastavi, ali i probleme koji nastaju tijekom njihove implementacije. U ovome se clanku predlaže model za implementaciju wiki sustava u okviru kolegija Inovacijski menadžment. Model je utemeljen na iskustvima nekih prije implementiranih sveucilisnih wiki sustava i rezultatima istraživanja provedenoga sa studentima Ekonomskoga fakulteta u Subotici.
