Passiflora L., the largest genus of Neotropical lianas, belongs to the family Passifloraceae and encompasses 615 accepted species as concluded in the present research. Historically, various taxonomic classifications have been proposed for the genus. One such proposal divided the genus into 23 subgenera. Subsequent revisions reduced this number to four and later expanded it to the six currently recognized subgenera. Recent phylogenetic analyses using molecular markers have confirmed the monophyly of these subgenera. However, no study has used pollen characteristics for the taxonomic delimitation of subgenera of Passiflora. Given the importance of pollen morphology in taxonomy, this study aims to present taxonomic and palynological descriptions, illustrations, an identification key, and a list of species of the subgenera Astrophea, Deidamioides, Decaloba, Passiflora, Tetrapathea, and Tryphostemmatoides.

Abstract In this manuscript we describe and illustrate a new species of Paepalanthus ser. Dimeri (Eriocaulaceae) endemic to the Chapada Diamantina, Brazil. The new species, Paepalanthus pyatan Picanço & Trovó, is distinguished from the other Paepalanthus by the following set of characters: robust habit, inflorescences arising at the top of lateral branches, capitula with ca. 2–3 cm in diameter, outer involucral bracts larger than the inner ones, and dimerous flowers. A detailed comparison with P. niger, the morphologically most similar species is provided. The new species is known from two unprotected and closely located subpopulations, and should be considered as endangered (EN). We also provide comments on the species anatomy, ecology and distribution, as well as distribution map, field photographs and detailed line drawings.

The new species, Paepalanthus fonsecae (Eriocaulaceae), is described and illustrated. It is placed in P. sect. Conodiscus due to its dimerous flowers, subcylindrical receptacles, and a gynoecium with the nectariferous branches of the style inserted below the level of the short stigmas on the fused portion of the style. The new species is compared with similar congeners, especially P. echinoides, from which it is mainly distinguished by having an elongated aerial stem covered by membranaceous and flat leaves, and the inflorescences consisting of usually fewer but longer scapes, each subtending a wider capitulum with elliptic involucral bracts. Paepalanthus fonsecae is known from two collections from central Brazil in the municipalities of Alto Paraíso de Goiás and Cavalcante and, according to IUCN criterion B, it should be treated as critically endangered (CR). Detailed comments on the species' distribution and morphology, along with new anatomical and palynological data, are provided.

This paper aims to characterize the pollen of two genera within the subtribe Hyptidinae (Lamiaceae): Leptohyptis Harley & J.F.B. Pastore (4 species) and Oocephalus (Benth.) Harley & J.F.B. Pastore (12 species). The study evaluates whether pollen morphology corroborates the recent taxonomy of the group. Acetolysed pollen grains were measured, described, and photomicrographed. Non-acetolysed pollen grains were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy. All analyzed taxa have pollen grains shed in monads, isopolar, medium or large in size, 6-(8)-colpate, varying from suboblate to prolate, with small to very small polar area. The presence of an operculum was observed in all species of Leptohyptis. By contrast, in Oocephalus, an operculum was present only O. grazielae Harley and O. niveus (Epling) Harley & J.F.B.Pastore. The sexine is reticulate in Leptohyptis and bireticulate with ornamented lumina in Oocephalus, being densely reticulate internally. The muri are straight, with or without elevations at the intersections, forming wide and circular lumina or small lumina, as in O. halimifolius (Mart. ex Benth.) Harley & J.F.B.Pastore. The variations revealed by this study imply that pollen morphology holds signi�cant taxonomic value for the systematics of the genera Oocephalus and Leptohyptis, particularly when morphometric and morphological characters are examined together.
