  • Design and Implementation of a Multi-Loop Type 2 Fuzzy PID Control for an Inverted Two-Input-Two-Output System

    This paper addresses a multi-loop interval Type-2 fuzzy logic proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control for a benchmark first order plus dead time system (FOPDT). In practice, Type-1 FLCs use crisp membership functions, which leads them less effective in modelling uncertainty in real-world systems where data and expert knowledge may be imprecise or noisy. In addition, this also Type-1 FLCs cannot explicitly handle uncertainties in the system dynamics, measurement noise, or modelling errors. This limits their robustness in highly dynamic or uncertain environments. Therefore, to mitigate these above mentioned draw backs of Type 1 FLC, Type 2 FLC is widely preferred. Basically, in Type 2 FLC normally incorporated an additional layer of uncertainty within the membership functions, to make more suitable for uncertain environments. In this work, the Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) is employed to construct the fuzzy logic system (FLS). This study comprehensively analyzes type-1 and type-2 FLS performances for a benchmark multivariable system. The simulation results reveal that the type-2 FLS outperforms the type-1 FLS and conventional PID controller. Also, to exhibit a concrete analysis, a performance analysis table has been incorporated by considering different performance indices to provide a clear visualization of output performances. The stability analysis of the system has also been described by considering the frequency domain analysis.

    This paper focuses on the design and implementation of an Earth station transceiver system that employs an innovative approach combining subcarrier composite Pulse Code Modulation (PCM), Phase Shift Keying (PSK), and Phase Modulation (PM) for modulation and demodulation processes. The study leverages MATLAB as the primary platform for simulation and analysis. The proposed system aims to enhance communication efficiency and reliability in satellite-based transmissions by integrating advanced modulation techniques. The study involves the development of comprehensive models for PCM, PSK, and PM modulation schemes, followed by their integration into a subcarrier composite framework. The MATLAB simulations assess the performance of the designed transceiver system under various conditions, such as channel impairments and noise, providing insights into its robustness and effectiveness. The satellite modulation scheme employs conversion of PCM bit stream data to NRZ-L encoding and applying BPSK modulation on NRZ-L data and later BPSK signal is Phase modulated to obtain PCM/PSK/PM sub carrier modulation. The demodulation scheme carried out on composite PCM/PSK/PM modulated signal. First it is PM demodulated and passed through FIR low pass filter to eliminate high frequency components to obtain PSK/PCM signal. The PSK/PCM signal then undergoes demodulation to get PCM (NRZ-L) signal and then PCM signal is then decoded to get original digital data transmitted. A proof-of-concept experiment has been realized on MATLAB. The simulation result validates the proposed architecture.
  • Design and FPGA Implementation of Satellite Telemetry Transmitter Employing PCM/PSK/PM Sub-Carrier Modulation Using DDS

    In Satellite communication measurement and control system, the most predominant radio telemetry and remote-control modulation system is PCM/PSK/PM. Satellites utilizes PCM/PSK/PM sub-carrier modulation to communicate with Ground station to transmit Telemetry (health) data of satellite. Major space agencies like NASA, ESA & ISRO have employed subcarriers for both tele-command and telemetry data transmissions. Use of sub-carriers allows separating different types of data as well as ensuring no overlap between the modulated data's frequency spectra and the RF carrier. This paper presents the design and FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) implementation of Satellite Transmitter employing PCM (Pulse Code Modulation), PSK (Phase Shift Keying), and PM (Phase Modulation) in a subcarrier modulation scheme. The transmitter leverages Direct Digital Synthesizer (DDS) as a key component to achieve precise signal generation. The integration of PCM, PSK, and PM in subcarrier modulation offers advantages in terms of spectral efficiency and signal quality. Algorithm using DDS ip is simulated in Vivado on ZynQ Ultrascale-ZCU111 FPGA board. The FPGA implementation enhances the flexibility and adaptability of the system, making it suitable for a wide range of satellite communication applications. The proposed transmitter architecture is thoroughly analyzed, and its performance is evaluated through simulations and practical experiments, demonstrating its feasibility and effectiveness in satellite communication systems.
