Asymmetric fibre supercapacitors for sustainable energy storage in next-generation soft textile wearables Neeraj Kumar, Nishu Devi, Rashi Gusain, Patryk Wojciak, Safa Polat, et al. Journal of Materials Chemistry A, 2026 Asymmetric fibre supercapacitors (AFSCs) offer higher voltages and energy densities than symmetric designs. This review discusses electrode materials, fabrication technologies, device designs, and future outlooks of AFSCs for soft textile wearables.
Polypyrrole-Decorated 2D Zn BioMOFs for Enhanced Supercapacitor Electrodes and Antibacterial Performance Rashi Gusain, Neeraj Kumar, Muhammad Khurram, Yongliang Li, Yunhong Jiang Advanced Materials Interfaces, 2025 Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) possess high surface area and tunable porosity but suffer from poor conductivity, limiting their electrochemical performance. In this study, a zinc azelate Bio‐MOF (Zn‐Aza) was synthesized via a simple hydrothermal method and modified through in situ polymerization of pyrrole to form a conductive Zn‐Aza/Ppy composite. The 2D platelet‐like Zn‐Aza/Ppy structure offers enhanced surface area and porosity, facilitating ion diffusion and improving charge storage. Electrochemical analysis revealed that the specific capacitance of Zn‐Aza (≈714 mF cm −2 ) increased nearly fourfold after polypyrrole modification, maintaining ≈90% capacitance retention after 1000 cycles. Beyond energy storage, Zn‐Aza/Ppy composite exhibited strong antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli ( E. coli ), Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ), and methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains. The Bio‐MOFs were more effective against Gram‐positive bacteria attributed to the synergistic action of zinc ions, azelaic acid, and polypyrrole. These components disrupt bacterial membranes and enzymatic systems, interfere with metabolism and replication, and induce electrostatic damage. Overall, the conductive Zn‐Aza/Ppy nanocomposite demonstrates excellent electrochemical performance and potent antibacterial properties, establishing it as a promising multifunctional material for both supercapacitor and antimicrobial applications.
Composites of 2D Materials and Bacterial Cellulose for Sustainable Energy Storage and Environmental Remediation Rashi Gusain, Neeraj Kumar, Shayan Seyedin, Yunhong Jiang Advanced Sustainable Systems, 2024 The ever‐increasing demand for sustainable energy sources and environment protection is the focus of significant scientific scrutiny worldwide. Advanced composite materials have been developed to help meet the energy demand and environmental sustainability. Researchers are drawn to the study of two‐dimensional (2D) materials/bacterial cellulose (BC) composites for energy and environmental applications due to the intriguing electrical, mechanical, electrochemical, and catalytic properties of 2D materials combined with the sustainability and biocompatibility of BC. In this review, the key strategies are explained to develop 2D materials/BC composites and highlight unique properties of such fascinating systems. The recent progress on the application of advanced 2D materials/BC composites in energy storage (supercapacitors and batteries) and environmental remediation (water treatment, antimicrobial activity, and environmental gas sensing) are explained in detail highlighting future outlooks and challenges in the field. This review is intended to serve as a valuable resource for researchers currently engaged in the study of 2D materials and/or BC for different applications and is expected to shape the upcoming research and industrial applications of emerging 2D materials/BC composites.
B2O3-Nanoparticles-Decorated N-Rich Reduced Graphene Oxide Composites for the Enhanced Visible-Light-Assisted Photocatalytic Degradation of Ciprofloxacin Neeraj Kumar, Rashi Gusain, Mike Masukume, Suprakas Sinha Ray Solar Rrl, 2023 The occurrence of pharmaceutical pollutants in the environment is a mounting concern due to their detrimental effects on living organisms, including humans. Ciprofloxacin (CIP) is a regularly used antibiotic detected in wastewater and surface water. Therefore, developing effective, sustainable strategies for its elimination is paramount. Photocatalysis is an efficient approach that has been widely recommended for the removal of CIP from water. However, improved photocatalyst performance, stability, and activation in abundant visible light are essential for better photocatalyst systems. In this study, a novel boron‐oxide‐decorated nitrogen‐rich reduced graphene oxide (B2O3/N‐rGO) nanocomposite is prepared and characterized for its photocatalytic performance toward CIP degradation. The B2O3/N‐rGO nanocomposites are in situ synthesized via wet chemical route, and the morphology and structural properties of nanocomposites are extensively characterized. In the results, it is shown that the B2O3/N‐rGO nanocomposite demonstrated significantly enhanced photocatalytic performance (98%, 3 h) compared to N‐rGO and pure B2O3 toward the degradation of CIP under visible‐light irradiation. The enhanced photocatalytic activity is attributed to the synergistic benefit of B2O3 and N‐rGO, which improves light absorption, charge separation efficiency, adsorption sites, and delayed electron–hole recombination. In summary, the synthesized B2O3/N‐rGO nanocomposite photocatalyst can potentially be applied for various environmental remediation and energy‐related applications.
