Mehta International Journal of Computational Science and Engineering, 2025 Recently, achieving accurate remote sensing images (RSI) classification has been a primary goal in deep learning, given its extensive applications, including urban planning and disaster management. The performance of existing convolutional neural networks (CNN)-based strategies is primarily influenced by their parameter settings, necessitating automated hyperparameter tuning through metaheuristic methods. The proposed BWODLF-RSI technique integrates black widow optimisation with a deep learning feature fusion model for enhanced RSI analysis. The preliminary processing step is to enhance RSI quality using noise reduction through a Gaussian filter (GF), enhancing contrast with the help of contrast limited adaptive histogram equalisation (CLAHE), and data augmentation to prevent overfitting. It is followed by employing Inception v3 and DenseNet201 to extract and fuse potent features. A critical aspect of this strategy is using black widow optimisation to fine-tune the kernel extreme learning machine (KELM) model, attaining a notable RSI classification accuracy of 94.05%. When tested on UCM and AID datasets, the BWODLF-RSI approach demonstrated superior feature selection and RSI analysis performance.
Unmanned Aerial Vehicle-Based Real-time Garbage Detection System Vaishnavee V. Rathod, Dipti P. Rana, Rupa G. Mehta Procedia Computer Science, 2025 This paper introduces an innovative system for detecting waste in real time, using an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) combined with the You Only Look Once (YOLO) v8 Object Detection model. UAVs conduct aerial surveys to capture high-resolution images, which the YOLO v8 model then processes to accurately identify and locate waste. This method supports prompt decision-making in waste management, allowing timely action for collection and disposal. Designed for versatility in varied environments and scalability for broader waste management needs, the system also generates detailed reports for informed planning. Experimental results confirm the system’s effectiveness in streamlining waste management, demonstrating its potential to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and promote a cleaner, more sustainable environment. These findings highlight the importance of integrating advanced technology like YOLO v8 with UAVs to address modern waste management challenges, marking a promising advancement toward intelligent, efficient waste solutions.
Extraction of Water Quality Parameters from MultiSpectral Drone Imagery: A Computational Approach Varunakshi Bhojane, Dipti P. Rana, Rupa G. Mehta 2025 IEEE International Conference on Emerging Technologies in Autonomous Aerial Vehicles Etaav 2025 Proceedings, 2025 Monitoring water quality is essential for sustainable water resource management, ecosystem health, and public safety. Conventional field based sampling techniques, though precise, are constrained by high labor requirements, temporal inflexibility, and limited spatial coverage. In this study, we present a computational approach for the extraction of key water quality parameters specifically Chlorophyll-a, turbidity, Total Suspended Solids (TSS), and Surface Temperature using multispectral imagery captured by Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). The proposed method leverages reflectance data from visible and near infrared (NIR) bands to compute spectral indices such as the Normalized Difference Chlorophyll Index (NDCI), which correlate strongly with optical water quality indicators. Algorithms were developed and tested on multispectral drone images collected over freshwater bodies. The results demonstrate high spatial resolution and reliable estimation of water quality parameters, which shows a scalable alternative to conventional methods. This approach supports real time environmental monitoring and contributes to improved decision making in water resource management.
Domain-Specific Keyphrase Extraction: A Specialized Named Entity Recognition and Multi-Stage Filtering Approach Nikita, Kavya Fagun Shah, Dipti P. Rana, Rupa G. Mehta Ocit 2025 Proceedings 23rd Oits International Conference on Information Technology, 2025 Keyphrase extraction enables retrieval systems, similarity and precedent analysis from complex Indian judgments. Traditional NLP algorithms cannot analyze phrases from Indian context. This research proposes a keyphrase extraction methodology based on a specialized Indian Legal NER (InLNER) model. The proposed method involves: specialized InLNER model generation, contextual text filtering, multi-technique keyphrase extraction and weighing & selection to yield the final keyphrases. The InLNER model uniquely identifies Indian entities including statutes, case citations etc., allowing systematic filtration of generic keywords and contextual entities. InLNER improves keyphrase quality by avoiding words with minimal context for analysis while retaining substantive concepts. This method transforms information processing by curating precise, informative keyphrases that accurately expresses context, improving information retrieval systems and performing sophisticated similarity analysis.
