  • Multi-sensor datasets of ultrasonic and mmWave reflected signals for material classification
    Mohammed H. Sadiq, Shaheen A. Abdulkareem, Ahmad B. Al-Khalil
    Data in Brief, 2026
This article details a publicly accessible dataset of reflected signals from ultrasonic and millimetre-wave (mmWave) sensors used for material classification. The dataset was gathered using two sensing methods: the URM09 ultrasonic sensor operating at 40 kHz and the DFRobot mmWave C4001 radar sensor operating at 24 GHz. Six common materials were chosen for data collection: wood, plastic, metal, glass, cardboard, and asbestos. Each material was tested at three thicknesses and one size (25 cm × 25 cm). All measurements were taken from a fixed distance of 55 cm in a controlled indoor setting with foam-lined enclosures to reduce external noise. The raw analogue signals were processed with Savitzky-Golay filtering and sliding window techniques. Time-domain features (mean, standard deviation, energy, RMS, kurtosis, skewness) and frequency-domain features (spectral centroid, spectral bandwidth, dominant frequency) were extracted from each sample. For URM09 the dataset includes 1789 refined data points across all six material-thickness combinations and 565 records for six material-only classification. On the other hand, For C4001 the dataset includes 1504 refined data points across all five material-thickness combinations and 470 records for five material-only classification. This dataset supports research in robotics, industrial inspection, non-destructive testing, and sensor fusion applications where contactless material identification is essential.

Aro the Scientific Journal of Koya University, 2026
Utilizing the artificial intelligence (AI) supported by software-defined networking and network function virtualization has a significant impact on the performance, flexibility, and efficiency in the development of 6G network slicing. This article compares AI-driven 6G slicing networks with traditional rulesbased 5G networks, focusing on latency, data throughput, jitter, power efficiency, and bandwidth. NS-3 and MATLAB have been utilized to evaluate the networks performance. The comparison results show that AI-driven network slicing reduces average latency by 50%, boosts data throughput by 40–90%, reduces jitter by 50%, and improves power efficiency by 20–28% compared to 5G networks. These results indicate that AI-powered network slicing in 6G networks outperforms traditional methods, enabling trendier network management. This sets a standard for network segmentation research in the future deployment of 6G networks.
  • Implementation of Fingerprint Biometrics for Secure Contactless Banking Card Transactions
    Soleen J. Ibrahim, Shaheen A. Abdulkareem, Ahmad B. Al-Khalil
Aro the Scientific Journal of Koya University, 2026
A contactless card is an easy and straightforward way to make a purchase that takes only a few seconds without requiring a Personal Identification Number (PIN) or signature. However, not requiring a PIN or signature on a contactless bank card makes it vulnerable to fraud attacks when losing or stealing the card. This article delivers a new model which is developed for securing a bank contactless card with fingerprint authentication. The suggested model is the creation of a new fingerprinting algorithm that combines with the virtual contactless card. The fingerprint recognition algorithm employs image processing methods to enhance and extract features in order to compare fingerprint impression images. The performance of the proposed model is evaluated based on two metrics: false acceptance rate and false rejection rate. There are five scenarios to test and evaluate the proposed model. The findings establish that the developed system enhances the process of embedding biometrics (fingerprints) to non-contact smart card and a user-friendly experience.

Yurika Pant Khanal, Abeer Alsadoon, Khurram Shahzad, Ahmad B. Al-Khalil, Penatiyana W. C. Prasad, Sabih Ur Rehman, Rafiqul Islam
    Future Internet, 2022
Blockchain technology has been widely advocated for security and privacy in IoT systems. However, a major impediment to its successful implementation is the lack of privacy protection regarding user access policy while accessing personal data in the IoT system. This work aims to preserve the privacy of user access policy by protecting the confidentiality and authenticity of the transmitted message while obtaining the necessary consents for data access. We consider a Modified Elliptic Curve Integrated Encryption Scheme (ECIES) to improve the security strength of the transmitted message. A secure hash function is used in conjunction with a key derivation function to modify the encryption procedure, which enhances the efficiency of the encryption and decryption by generating multiple secure keys through one master key. The proposed solution eliminates user-dependent variables by including transaction generation and verification in the calculation of computation time, resulting in increased system reliability. In comparison to previously established work, the security of the transmitted message is improved through a reduction of more than 12% in the correlation coefficient between the constructed request transaction and encrypted transaction, coupled with a decrease of up to 7% in computation time.

  • A Real Time Parking Reservation System Based on Vehicular Cloud Computing
    Parishan M. Ismael, Harman Y. Ibrahim, Ahmad B. Al-Khalil
Proceedings of the 2020 International Conference on Computer Science and Software Engineering Csase 2020, 2020
the increased number of vehicles in a high density population area is an issue especially when these areas are unorganized in term of vehicles parking facilities. Having good automated road management and smart parking reservation systems can help to decrease traffic congestion, fuel consumption and save the driver’s time. This paper introduces the concepts of Vehicular Cloud Computing to design and implement a real time parking reservation system. The proposed system is typically built upon OMNeT++ and SUMO Simulators by integrating Bellman-Ford and Dijkstra algorithms, to get the shortest path(s) about available parking spaces in a particular geographic area. The proposed system has also taken into consideration the authentication issue to prevent unauthorized parking.
  • TQAIOD: A Backup Technique to Surpassing the Internet Outage
    Ali A. Albabawat, Shimal S.Taher, Ahmad B. Al-Khalil
Proceedings of the 2020 International Conference on Computer Science and Software Engineering Csase 2020, 2020
The internet plays significant roles in different aspects of daily life especially in education and learning fields. Nowadays, many interactive applications have been emerged to satisfy the requirements of both teachers and students. These applications can contribute to the ease of the data delivery processes which are essentially depending on the internet access. In this paper, new backup technique have been proposed to surpassing the issue of internet outage. The teacher quality assurance system at University of Duhok have been taken as a case study to evaluate the designed technique. The designed technique mainly focuses on overcoming the issue of internet outage while the academic staff get their students’ feedbacks. The proposed technique has been successfully designed to fulfill two main goals: first, the internet outage can recovered by adding a local backup server that can achieve parallel tasks, and this local server replace the main server when the internet connection is unavailable. Second, the backed up information in the local server will be automatically uploaded to the main server once the internet is available. The approached used in this paper minimizes three key aspects in internet-based IMSs, which are traffic, time, and IT requirements.
  • A Secure Mechanism to Prevent ARP Spoofing and ARP Broadcasting in SDN
    Harman Y. Ibrahim, Parishan M. Ismael, Ali A. Albabawat, Ahmad B. Al-Khalil
Proceedings of the 2020 International Conference on Computer Science and Software Engineering Csase 2020, 2020
Conventional networks had several security problems, some of them solved using Software Defined Networking SDN and some others still exist such as Address Resolution Protocol ARP spoofing. In this paper, the SDN controller has been extended by a module which checks every ARP packet in the network to detect and stop the possible spoofed ones. The drawback of this mechanism begging to appear when the network gets larger and the traffic increase. As a result, this will increase the controller’s CPU load and Roundtrip time. As a solution to this problem, the extended module has been modified to handle ARP traffic to reduce ARP overhead in the network via giving the proxy ARP functionality to the controller. The emulation results showed that the proposed mechanism is robust against ARP spoofing attack and successfully prevented ARP broadcast messages in large networks and improved the response time by centrally responding to ARP requests.
  • Impact of Alamouti Space-Time Block Coding on the Performance of Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication
    Alyaa Al-Barrak, Ahmad Baheej Al-Khalil
Icoase 2018 International Conference on Advanced Science and Engineering, 2018
A network that has recently received a lot of interest is the Vehicular Ad hoc Network VANET. Vehicle – to – Vehicle V2V communication is the conventional method in VANET communication, where vehicles can share information regarding the road status such as a warning message related to the incidence of an accident. The aim of this paper is the use of Multiple – Input – Multiple – Output MIMO diversity technique called Alamouti Space-Time Block Coding STBC as a channel coding in V2V communication. The simulation tests were constructed according to the conditions of vehicles speeds, modulations and the distances between the vehicles. These tests included both symmetric and asymmetric channels. The results showed that Alamouti STBC is suitable for slow fading channel communication rather than for mobility communication such as V2V.
