Blockchain technology has been widely advocated for security and privacy in IoT systems. However, a major impediment to its successful implementation is the lack of privacy protection regarding user access policy while accessing personal data in the IoT system. This work aims to preserve the privacy of user access policy by protecting the confidentiality and authenticity of the transmitted message while obtaining the necessary consents for data access. We consider a Modified Elliptic Curve Integrated Encryption Scheme (ECIES) to improve the security strength of the transmitted message. A secure hash function is used in conjunction with a key derivation function to modify the encryption procedure, which enhances the efficiency of the encryption and decryption by generating multiple secure keys through one master key. The proposed solution eliminates user-dependent variables by including transaction generation and verification in the calculation of computation time, resulting in increased system reliability. In comparison to previously established work, the security of the transmitted message is improved through a reduction of more than 12% in the correlation coefficient between the constructed request transaction and encrypted transaction, coupled with a decrease of up to 7% in computation time.

  • TQAIOD: A Backup Technique to Surpassing the Internet Outage
    Ali A. Albabawat, Shimal S.Taher, and Ahmad B. Al-Khalil

    IEEE
The internet plays significant roles in different aspects of daily life especially in education and learning fields. Nowadays, many interactive applications have been emerged to satisfy the requirements of both teachers and students. These applications can contribute to the ease of the data delivery processes which are essentially depending on the internet access. In this paper, new backup technique have been proposed to surpassing the issue of internet outage. The teacher quality assurance system at University of Duhok have been taken as a case study to evaluate the designed technique. The designed technique mainly focuses on overcoming the issue of internet outage while the academic staff get their students’ feedbacks. The proposed technique has been successfully designed to fulfill two main goals: first, the internet outage can recovered by adding a local backup server that can achieve parallel tasks, and this local server replace the main server when the internet connection is unavailable. Second, the backed up information in the local server will be automatically uploaded to the main server once the internet is available. The approached used in this paper minimizes three key aspects in internet-based IMSs, which are traffic, time, and IT requirements.

  • A Real Time Parking Reservation System Based on Vehicular Cloud Computing
Parishan M. Ismael, Harman Y. Ibrahim, and Ahmad B. Al-Khalil

    IEEE
the increased number of vehicles in a high density population area is an issue especially when these areas are unorganized in term of vehicles parking facilities. Having good automated road management and smart parking reservation systems can help to decrease traffic congestion, fuel consumption and save the driver’s time. This paper introduces the concepts of Vehicular Cloud Computing to design and implement a real time parking reservation system. The proposed system is typically built upon OMNeT++ and SUMO Simulators by integrating Bellman-Ford and Dijkstra algorithms, to get the shortest path(s) about available parking spaces in a particular geographic area. The proposed system has also taken into consideration the authentication issue to prevent unauthorized parking.

  • A Secure Mechanism to Prevent ARP Spoofing and ARP Broadcasting in SDN
Harman Y. Ibrahim, Parishan M. Ismael, Ali A. Albabawat, and Ahmad B. Al-Khalil

    IEEE
Conventional networks had several security problems, some of them solved using Software Defined Networking SDN and some others still exist such as Address Resolution Protocol ARP spoofing. In this paper, the SDN controller has been extended by a module which checks every ARP packet in the network to detect and stop the possible spoofed ones. The drawback of this mechanism begging to appear when the network gets larger and the traffic increase. As a result, this will increase the controller’s CPU load and Roundtrip time. As a solution to this problem, the extended module has been modified to handle ARP traffic to reduce ARP overhead in the network via giving the proxy ARP functionality to the controller. The emulation results showed that the proposed mechanism is robust against ARP spoofing attack and successfully prevented ARP broadcast messages in large networks and improved the response time by centrally responding to ARP requests.

  • Impact of Alamouti Space-Time Block Coding on the Performance of Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication
Alyaa Al-Barrak and Ahmad Baheej Al-Khalil

    IEEE
A network that has recently received a lot of interest is the Vehicular Ad hoc Network VANET. Vehicle – to – Vehicle V2V communication is the conventional method in VANET communication, where vehicles can share information regarding the road status such as a warning message related to the incidence of an accident. The aim of this paper is the use of Multiple – Input – Multiple – Output MIMO diversity technique called Alamouti Space-Time Block Coding STBC as a channel coding in V2V communication. The simulation tests were constructed according to the conditions of vehicles speeds, modulations and the distances between the vehicles. These tests included both symmetric and asymmetric channels. The results showed that Alamouti STBC is suitable for slow fading channel communication rather than for mobility communication such as V2V.

  • Performance of BCH and RS Codes in MIMO System Using MPFEC Diversity Technique
Ahmad Baheej Al-Khalil and Alyaa Al-Barrak

    IEEE
Multipath propagation phenomenon often causes Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) because several copies from the originally transmitted signal travel in different directions and reach the destination with different time delays. This paper offers a new diversity technique to eliminate the effect and utilise multipath propagation phenomenon. The new diversity technique is known as MultiPath Forward Error Correction (MPFEC) technique. The MPFEC technique considers some of the multipath copies as an existing resource (redundant copies of the transmitted signal) which can be utilised to enhance the performance of Forward Error Correction coding (FEC) techniques, hence saving significant channel resources otherwise given to a feedback channel, without adding redundancy. Two different coding techniques BCH and RS coding are used in the simulation to perform the Bit Error Rate (BER) analysis. The result reveals that BCH and RS codes performance can be enhanced by utilising the MPFEC technique without increasing the number of redundancy. This paper is implemented by using MATLAB. The results are analysed and compared.

  • A predefined channel coefficients library for Vehicle-to-Vehicle communications
Ahmad Baheej Al-Khalil, Scott Turner, and Ali Al-Sherbaz

    IEEE
It is noticeable that most of VANETs communications tests are assessed through simulation. In a majority of simulation results, the physical layer is often affected by an apparent lack of realism. Therefore, vehicular channel model has become a critical issue in the field of intelligent transport systems (ITS). To overcome the lack of realism problem, a more robust channel model is needed to reflect the reality. This paper provides an open access, predefined channel coefficients library. The library is based on 2×2 and 4×4 Multiple - Input - Multiple - Output (MIMO) systems in V2V communications, using a spatial channel model extended SCME which will help to reduce the overall simulation time. In addition, it provides a more realistic channel model for V2V communications; considering: over ranges of speeds, distances, multipath signals, sub-path signals, different angle of arrivals, different angle departures, no line of sight and line of sight. An intensive evaluation process has taken place to validate the library and acceptance results are produced. Having an open access predefined library, enables the researcher at relevant communities to test and evaluate several complicated vehicular communications scenarios in a wider manners with less time and efforts.

  • Feasibility study of utilising SCM-MIMO channel model in V2V communication
Ahmad Baheej Al-Khalil, Scott Turner, and Ali Al-Sherbaz

    IEEE
In the recent year's vehicular ad hoc networks VANETs has received significant attention in the intelligent transport system research. Vehicle-to-vehicle V2V communication can be considered an important approach to help the drivers to satisfy requirements like less congestion, accident warning, road exploration, etc. The propagation issues such as path loss, multipath fading, shadowing loss, depolarization loss, and polarization mismatch loss significantly affect the reliability of V2V communication. The goal of this paper is to evaluate the performance of the PHY layer in V2V communication using a modified Spatial Channel Model SCM-MIMO. The simulation results observed that the transmitted signal is affected by a multipath fading channel.
