Improving SEP for Heterogeneous Wireless Sensor Networks Intisar SH. Al-Mejibli Iraqi Journal of Science, 2024 The lifespan of WSNs is crucial, and it primarily relies on the energy efficiency of the sensors, as their power source is often non-rechargeable and non-replaceable batteries. Addressing this issue involves carefully designing of a routing protocol that considers energy saving. This article presents a heterogeneity-aware routing protocol based on the Stable Election Protocol SEP for heterogeneous WSNs to extend the lifespan of the WSN by reducing energy consumption. The proposal employs the Time Difference of Arrival (TDoA) in the cluster-forming process to determine the shortest distance between the cluster head (CH) and sensor nodes in that cluster, thereby minimizing power consumption in all later communication operations. The proposal has been evaluated and compared to three protocols which are SEP, Zonal-SEP (Z-SEP), and Improved Z-SEP (IZ-SEP). The results depicts that the proposed protocol outperforms the three protocols in terms of the largest number of alive nodes in all evaluation rounds and exhibited a greater average of residential energy in nodes by about 90%, 10%, and 5% more than SEP, Z-SEP, and IZ-SEP respectively.
ANFIS-based Indoor localization and Tracking in Wireless Sensor Networking S.M. Tariq, I.S. Al-Mejibli Nigerian Journal of Technological Development, 2024 Localizing wireless sensor networks poses a persistent challenge in accurately determining sensor node locations based on known anchor node positions, especially when nodes move between different locations. Conventional techniques like Trilateration, relying on Received Signal Strength Indicators (RSSIs), frequently employed in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), serve the purpose of localizing and tracking moving targets. However, the inherent nonlinear relationship between RSSI and distance often leads to substantial errors in localization estimations. This paper introduces an innovative approach by proposing the utilization of an Adaptive Neural Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) as a departure from the conventional RSSI-based method. This ANFIS-based approach aims to initially estimate the locations of single moving targets in a 2-D WSN setup. Subsequently, these initial estimates undergo further refinement within an Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF). The results demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed algorithms in tracking targets, showcasing high accuracy levels within a few centimeters is evident from the mean localization errors for standard RSSI, ANFIS, and ANFIS+UKF, that the ANFIS+UKF framework can handle real-time target tracking issues in WSN utilizing RSSI (5.657, 0.805, and 0.068, respectively). By contrast, the proposed method offers an impressive improvement of 98.797% over the standard RSSI method.
A multi-hop routing protocol for an energy-efficient in wireless sensor network Intisar Shadeed Al-Mejibli, Nawaf Rasheed Alharbe International Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2023 The low-energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) protocol has been developed to be implemented in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) systems such as healthcare and military systems. LEACH protocol depends on clustering the employed sensors and electing one cluster head (CH) for each cluster. The CH nodes are changed periodically to evenly distribute the energy load among sensors. Updating the CH node requires electing different CH and re-clustering sensors. This process consumes sensors’ energy due to sending and receiving many broadcast and unicast messages thus reduces the network lifetime, which is regarded as a significant issue in LEACH. This research develops a new approach based on modifying the LEACH protocol to minimize the need of updating the cluster head. The proposal aims to extend the WSN’s lifetime by maintaining the sensor nodes’ energy. The suggested approach has been evaluated and shown remarkable efficiency in comparison with basic LEACH protocol and not-clustered protocol in terms of extending network lifetime and reducing the required sent messages in the network reflected by 15%, and, in addition, reducing the need to reformatting the clusters frequently and saving network resources.
A Hybrid Localization Algorithm of RSS and TOA Based on Adaptive Weight Errors Suphian Mohammed Tariq, Intisar Shadeed Al-Mejibli 5th International Conference on Information Technology Applied Mathematics and Statistics Icitams 2023, 2023 Specifying the location of wireless sensor devices is vital in many applications such as target tracking, remote environmental monitoring, and more. Time of arrival (TOA), the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) and range information are applied to locate the wireless sensor network (WSN) node’s location. Still, they suffer inaccuracy because of environmental factors in the 2D region. A ranging method has been suggested, merging the TOA information domain with RSSI to accurately determine the distance between the unknown node and the anchor node. This approach relies on utilizing RSSI and TOA ranging techniques in the near and far endings. We combine received signal strength indication and arrival time in parallel style as major elements. The findings of the two methods are then combined with the error percentage to determine the final location using adaptive weight errors. The proposed range method is promoted in this work to enhance the accuracy of the positioning. The proposal has been implemented by MATLAB simulation and the results show improving positioning accuracy compared to the conventional TOA and RSSI ranging method. The mean square error in the proposed method is 0.5044, whereas it was 0.7032 and 0.8102 in RSSI, respectively. This indicates that the suggested approach is more efficient and performs better for localization than the other two methods.
WSN Localization Method Based on Hybrid PSO-GRNN Approach Suphian Mohammed Tariq, I. Al-Mejibli International Journal of Intelligent Engineering and Systems, 2023 : Determining the localization and tracking of sensor nodes in indoor environments is the goal of this study. The difficulty of significant estimation errors in target localization brought on by unpredictable noise in received signal strength indicator (RSSI) readings, particularly in indoor environments, is a major area of research right now. This study proposed a hybrid technique called particle swarm optimization-generalized regression neural network (PSO-GRNN) to improve the sensor nodes' ability to estimate location and target tracking with more precision, as an alternative to conventional RSSI-based strategy. The GRNN algorithm can use the RSSI values as initiation data of the algorithm of GRNN to locate the location and tracing of the target node. An essential component of the GRNN architecture is the spread constant(σ), The method of trial-and-error to select a value of spread constant(σ), which is insecure and does not always yield the best result, is used to choose the parameter. The PSO method is used to determine the optimal GRNN spread constant value. The hybrid PSO-GRNN method was used to overcome these drawbacks and enhance localization and target tracking accuracy without the need for further apparatuses. The tracking algorithm PSO-GRNN the hybrid outperformed the conventional LNSM technique and produced impressive results. Comparing the proposed method to the conventional RSSI, a considerable gain of 87.58% is possible.
