  • Enhancing Thermal Performance of IC Engine Piston by Using Nanoparticles Reinforced Aluminum Alloy
    A. Suresh, N. Mathan Kumar, P. Michael Joseph Stalin, P. V. Nandhakumar, P. Manoj Kumar, P. Pandiarajan
    Journal of Environmental Nanotechnology, 2025
The failure of internal combustion (IC) engine pistons caused by extreme thermal and mechanical loads is still a crucial problem for the automotive engineering industry. Common aluminum alloys, despite their extensive application in piston making, are frequently characterized by drawbacks related to thermal conductivity, wear resistance, and structural integrity at high temperatures. This study explores the optimization of piston performance using nanoparticle reinforced aluminum composites such as alumina (Al₂O₃) and silicon carbide (SiC) nanoparticles. The thermal behavior and stress distribution of reinforced piston materials are analyzed using finite element analysis (FEA) in realistic engine operating conditions. The simulation calculates the temperature distribution, propagation of heat flux and directional thermal gradients in order to determine the material’s resistance to thermomechanical stresses. Results show that the addition of nanoparticles significantly enhances thermal conductivity and lowers localized hot spots, hence reducing the chances of thermal fatigue and deformation. Titanium alloy Ti1100 exhibited better thermal stability and mechanical strength than conventional aluminum alloys among the tested materials. Comparative studies between analytical and FEA results confirm the validity of numerical simulations for determining equivalent stress, shear stress and total deformation. Such findings imply that the use of nanoparticle reinforced composites can provide effective solutions to age-old problems associated with piston failure, providing increased durability, superior heat dissipation as well as better overall engine efficiency. This research lays foundation for the future experimental confirmation and real time engine test for the further optimization of the material selection and piston design of the high-performance IC engine.
  • A Comprehensive Study of Microstructure and Mechanical Properties in Friction Stir Welded AA 2024 and Nano particle Reinforced Hybrid Composites
N Mathan Kumar, Suresh Kumar Ramalingam, Kundan Bharti, P V Nandhakumar, M Yuvaperiyasamy
    Turkish Journal of Engineering, 2025
The hybrid metal matrix composites have been composed of the AA 2024 matrix, the Silicon Nitride (Si3N4), and Aluminium Nitride (AlN) particle reinforcements through stir casting route with various combinations such as 0,2,4,6 & 8 wt%. The hybrid composites were successfully welded by the friction welding process with the various input parameters. The input parameters are Tool Rotational Speed (RPM), welding speed (mm/min), and Axial force (L). In this investigation, the L25 orthogonal array was used to conduct experiments, and the mechanical and metallurgical investigations are taken. Finally, the reinforcement particles were distributed evenly in the matrix. After successful welding 8wt% reinforced sample achieved higher mechanical properties as well and the heat-affected zone and weldment area were investigated and found that the weld strength improved.
  • Anticipated requirements and expectations in the digital library
    N. Rajkumar, Husna Tabassum, S. Muthulingam, A. Mohanraj, C. Viji, Kumar N., K. R. Senthilkumar
    AI Assisted Library Reconstruction, 2024
As society transitions into the digital era, the anticipated requirements and expectations placed on various sectors undergo profound transformations. This proposed study explores the shifting landscape, identifying key demands and expectations across various domains and highlighting the requirement for adaptability and innovation. The digital era has directed transformative changes, redefining the landscape of libraries into dynamic digital repositories. Anticipating the future requirements and expectations in this evolving domain is imperative for effectively catering to user needs. The term ‘digital library,' often referred to as a ‘digital repository,' is crucial in contemporary information. The process of transforming a digital repository into an institutional repository (IR) is of dominant importance. The variations observed in institutional repositories are designed to align with users' demands and expectations for digital information and services.
