Sustainable Software Solutions: A Tool Integrating Life Cycle Analysis and ISO Quality Models Yang Qiang, Noraini Che Pa, Rosli Ismail International Journal on Advanced Science Engineering and Information Technology, 2024 Sustainability is essential in software systems in today's eco-conscious atmosphere. However, companies often overlook this, resulting in energy waste and e-waste. We implemented an automated software sustainability assessment solution to address this by fusing Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) and ISO quality model implementation capabilities. Our tool reduces environmental impact, promotes economic, technical, environmental, and social sustainability, improves resource labor efficiency and usage time (hardware life), and enables user autonomy. Developed in Python, it is a tool for assessing and evaluating software sustainability (such as performance or maintainability) that has been validated in real-world scenarios. We provide a method for assessing software maintainability and energy efficiency by combining LCA with the ISO 25010 standard. Case studies confirm that the new tool offers a comprehensive sustainability assessment method consistent with sustainable development goals. The study results show that maintainability and energy efficiency were thoroughly assessed. The accuracy and precision of the test assessment results were further confirmed, indicating that the tool is consistent across different software projects and reliable, proving its practical application. This advancement is essential for sustainable software development and provides concrete metrics and operational insights for developers and their companies. In future research, we plan to extend the tool’s metric scope and improve data visualization/information customization suitable for more diverse software environments and sustainability goals. Our tool promotes eco-responsibility while raising quality and sustainability standards for all software systems.
The Cognizance of Green Computing Concept and Practices among Secondary School Students: A Preliminary Study Shafinah Kamarudin, Siti Munirah, Nurul Nadwa, Rosli Ismail, Ribka Alan, Philip Lepun, Muhd Khaizer International Journal of Advanced Computer Science and Applications, 2021 The use of information communication technology (ICT) is growing and has been a compulsory norm in society. However, the increased use of ICT facilities in all developing countries has contributed to higher energy use and lead to environmental pollution. This study explores the extent of awareness among the younger generation about green computing concepts and practices. In this study, a total of 94 secondary school students were sampled across Selangor state. The data were gathered using a set of questionnaires comprising of 20 items pertaining to the harmful effects of using computers and communication gadgets on the environment, awareness of the concepts and practices of green computing. The findings indicate it reveal that secondary school students are still not aware of the green computing concept. It is observed that 54.35% of students may not realize that computers and communication devices could be disposed of eco-safe. Furthermore, 61.96% of students do not realize that computer hardware can be recycled, and 75% of them do not have experience in disposing of their computers. Surprisingly, they mostly practice green computing when it comes to reducing energy consumption. This study contributes to determining the current level of students’ green computing awareness in a sustaining environment. In conclusion, students need to be educated on utilizing ICT resources and practicing green computing mechanisms to boost environmental sustainability.
A Proposed Model of Fishpond Water Quality Measurement and Monitoring System based on Internet of Things (IoT) Rosli Ismail, Kamarudin Shafinah, Kamil Latif Iop Conference Series Earth and Environmental Science, 2020 Aquaculture in Malaysia is now being promoted as an important engine of growth and eventually becoming the pillar of the economy of the nation. However, healthy fish production requires intensive care, and to ensure a stable and healthy production environment inside the fishpond is a challenging task. While cultivating aquatic organisms, water quality is a critical factor. It depends mainly on various parameters such as dissolved oxygen, ammonia, pH, temperature, salt, nitrates, carbonates, etc. In most places, this testing is performed by fishpond farmers manually or by researchers through laboratory testing where there is no real-time monitoring. Today, with the advancement of the Internet of Things (IoT) and sensors, the technology is reaching the ground level with its application uses in agriculture and aquaculture. It is highly desirable to have an IoT - based automated system that can continuously measure and monitor fishpond with optimum utilization of resources. This paper proposes a model for real time measurement and monitoring system based on IoT technology for measuring and monitoring the water parameters in fishpond. We used a qualitative method to investigate perceptions, experiences, and ideas of fishpond farmers in order to propose the model. With the help of the proposed model, the quality of water can be continuously measured and monitored to ensure the growth and survival of fish in pond. As a result, preventive action can be taken in a timely manner to minimize losses and increase productivity.
Integration of EFQM excellence model and information systems criterion Journal of Theoretical and Applied Information Technology, 2016
The effect of information systems criterion on the EFQM model in institutions of higher education Rosli Ismail, Masrah Azrifah Azmi Murad, Marzanah A. Jabar, Rozi Nor Haizan Nor American Journal of Applied Sciences, 2015 The purpose of this paper is to empirically test the effect of information systems criterion on the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) excellence model in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The paper identifies five (5) causal hypotheses from literatures that are related to the information systems criterion. The data were collected from 118 Malaysian higher education institutions through the questionnaire survey. The empirical data were analysed using Structural Equation Model (SEM) via the AMOS version 21 software. The respondents are limited only to the quality managers in Malaysian higher education institutions. The results indicate that there are three (3) significant relations and two (2) insignificant relations within the model. Leadership has positive effects on information systems and information systems have positive effects on policy and strategy; and partnership and resources. However, information systems do not have positive effect on people and processes. By using information systems in EFQM excellence model is necessary for the improvement of quality in the field of higher education institutions.
