Self-esteem and attachment styles as predictors of marital satisfaction among secondary school teachers in Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State, Nigeria Lateef Omotosho Adegboyega, Adeola Aminat Odebode African Identities, 2026 This study examined self-esteem and attachment styles as psychological predictors of marital satisfaction among married secondary school teachers in Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State, Nigeria. A descriptive survey design of the correlational type was adopted. The population comprised all secondary school teachers in Ilorin metropolis, from which a sample of 200 married teachers was selected using multi-stage sampling techniques. Data were collected using a researcher-developed instrument titled Self-Esteem, Attachment Styles and Marital Satisfaction Questionnaire (SASMSQ). Descriptive statistics were used to summarize respondents’ demographic characteristics and levels of the study variables, while inferential statistics, including multiple regression analysis, t-test, and analysis of variance, were employed to test the hypotheses at the 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that the respondents generally exhibited high self-esteem, predominantly secure attachment styles, and high levels of marital satisfaction. Self-esteem and attachment styles jointly and independently predicted marital satisfaction among the teachers. No significant differences were found in marital satisfaction based on gender or length of years in marriage. The study underscores the importance of individual psychological factors in shaping marital satisfaction within occupational contexts and highlights the need for counselling interventions that promote healthy self-esteem and secure attachment among teachers.
Knowledge and Attitude of Working-Class Women Towards Exclusive Breastfeeding in Kwara State, Nigeria: Implications for Counselling Practice Lateef Omotosho Adegboyega, Ifeoma P Okafor, Falilat Anike Okesina, Samuel Kolawole Ajiboye, Muinat Bolanle Bello Ethiopian Journal of Health Sciences, 2025 Background: Breastfeeding has long been recognized across cultures and societies as the optimal method of infant nutrition. This study therefore examined the knowledge and attitudes of working-class women towards exclusive breastfeeding in Kwara State, Nigeria. Methods: A descriptive survey design was employed. Using a simple random sampling technique, 420 respondents were selected. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, including mean, rank order, and percentages, were used to answer the research questions, while Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was applied to test the hypotheses at the 0.05 level of significance. Results: ). Conclusion: Although working-class mothers generally possess adequate knowledge of exclusive breastfeeding, there is a need for targeted educational and training programs to improve their attitudes.
Factors influencing use of contraceptives among literate married women in Ogbomoso South Local Government Area, Oyo State Lateef Omotosho Adegboyega, Adeola Abideen Adewusi African Health Sciences, 2024 Background: Contraceptives uses are issues of concern around the world due to the adverse effects of unsafe sexual behaviours, such as unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases among women. Objective: To investigate the factors influencing use of contraceptives among literate married women in Ogbomoso South Local Government Area, Oyo State. The study also examined whether the variables of age, religion and educational qualification would influence the respondent's view. Methods: Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. Purposive sampling technique was adopted to draw a total of 210 respondents. A questionnaire was used to collect data for the study. Mean and rank order was used to answer the research question while Analysis of Variance was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Results: Findings revealed that factors influencing contraceptive use among literate married women are educational qualification, health condition and number of children among others. Findings also revealed that there were no significant differences in the factors influencing use of contraceptives among literate married women based on age and religious affiliation while significant difference was found in educational qualification. Conclusion: Majority of the respondents attested to the factors influencing contraceptive use among literate married women. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that contextual and cultural considerations are recommended for comprehensive understanding of factors influencing contraceptive use among Nigerian women, educative interventions by service providers on the necessity of continuous contraception even at older age before menopause should be recommended.
Psycho-social problems of adolescents with sickle-cell anaemia in ekiti state, nigeria Lateef Omotosho Adegboyega African Health Sciences, 2021 Background: Sickle-cell disease comprises a group of genetic disorders characterized by the inheritance of sickle haemo- globin from both parents. Sickle-cell disease carries a huge psycho-social burden which has impacts on the physical, psycho- logical, social and occupational well-being as well as levels of independence on adolescents.
 Objective: To investigate the psycho-social problems of adolescents with sickle-cell anaemia in Ekiti State. The study also examined whether the variables of age and educational level would influence the psycho-social problems of adolescents with sickle-cell anaemia in Ekiti State.
 Methods: Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. Purposive sampling technique was adopted to draw a total of 121 respondents. A questionnaire was used to collect data for the study. Mean and rank order was used to answer the research question while Analysis of Variance was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance.
 Results: Findings revealed that psycho-social problems of adolescents with sickle-cell anaemia are limited in the choice of career, find it difficult to get suitable partner in marriage and SCD adolescents usually manifest emotional upset, misbehav- iour, and have learning problems. Findings also revealed that there were significant differences in the psycho-social problems of adolescents with sickle-cell anaemia based on age and educational level.
 Conclusion: Majority of the respondents attested to the psycho-social problems facing adolescents with sickle-cell anaemia. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that social workers should be employed in health sectors; govern- ment should offered standard health care for all adolescents with sickle cell disease.

Counselling Needs of Sickle-Cell Anaemia Adolescents in Ekiti State, Nigeria Lateef Omotosho Adegboyega Ethiopian Journal of Health Sciences, 2020 BACKGROUND፡ Sickle-cell disease is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder of hemoglobin (Hb) structure and the most common of the hemoglobinopathies. Hence, this study investigated counseling needs of sickle-cell anaemia adolescents in Ekiti State.METHODS: Descriptive survey design was adopted for this study. Purposive sampling technique was adopted to draw a total of 121 respondents. A questionnaire was used to collect data for the study. Mean and rank order were used to answer the research question while chi-square and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance.RESULTS: The findings revealed that counselling needs of adolescents with sickle-cell anaemia include counsellors are expected to encourage adolescents with sickle-cell anaemia to have confidence in self among others. The findings also revealed that there was a significant difference in the counselling needs of adolescents with sickle-cell anaemia based on gender while there was no significant difference in the counselling needs of adolescents with sickle-cell anaemia based on religion.CONCLUSION: The counselling needs of adolescents with sickle-cell anaemia include adolescents with sickle-cell anaemia easily comprehend the counselling therapy of counselloramong others. It was recommended that Government should offer standard health care for all adolescents with Sickle-cell disease.
Influence of moderating variables on Nigerian undergraduates' emotional intelligence and attitude towards examination Lateef Omotosho Adegboyega and International Journal of Instruction, 2019 This paper investigated the influence of moderating variables on Nigerian undergraduates' emotional intelligence and attitude towards examination. Descriptive survey of the correlational type was employed for the study. One thousand, five hundred and thirty-six (1,536) undergraduates in Nigeria were drawn using purposive and stratified sampling techniques. Two null hypotheses were generated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. "Emotional Intelligence Scale" (EIS) and "Attitude Towards Examination Scale" (ATES) were the instruments used to collect relevant data. The findings revealed that there was a significant correlation between emotional intelligence and attitude of Nigerian undergraduates towards examination. The findings also revealed that gender, age, level of study, university and family type had a significant positive influence on undergraduates' emotional intelligence and attitude towards examination in Nigeria. It was therefore recommended, among others, that students should continue to cultivate the habit of developing high emotional intelligence as it would help them to develop positive attitude towards examination, effective leadership skills such as improved communication among peers and other people, less school and workplace conflict, better problem-solving skills and increased likelihood of promotions to greater heights.
Attitude of married women towards contraceptive use in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State, Nigeria Lateef Omotosho Adegboyega African Health Sciences, 2019 Background Contraceptive use helps in preventing unplanned pregnancy and reducing maternal death among married women. Objective To investigate the attitude of married women towards contraceptive use in Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State. The study also examined whether the variables of age and educational attainment would influence attitude of married women towards contraceptive use in Ilorin metropolis. Methods Descriptive survey design and analytical methods were adopted for the study. Simple random sampling technique was adopted to draw a total of 200 respondents. A questionnaire was used to collect data for the study. Mean and rank order was used to answer the research question while Analysis of Variance was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level. Results The attitude of married women towards contraceptive use in Ilorin metropolis was negative. There was no significant difference in the attitude of married women towards contraceptive use based on age and educational attainment. Conclusion Most married women in Ilorin metropolis have negative attitude towards contraceptive use. We recommended that counselling services be provided to women on how to deal with side effects associated with various modern contraceptive methods.
Influence of achievement motivation on Nigerian undergraduates' attitude towards examination Lateef Omotosho Adegboyega and International Journal of Instruction, 2018 This paper investigated the influence of achievement motivation on Nigerian undergraduates' attitude towards examination. Descriptive survey of the correlational type was employed for the study. One thousand, five hundred and thirty-six (1,536) undergraduates in Nigeria were drawn using purposive and stratified sampling techniques. Four research questions were generated to guide the application of the study, while two null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 alpha level. Achievement Motivation Scale" (AMS) and "Attitude Towards Examination Scale" (ATES) were the instruments used to collect relevant data. The findings revealed that majority of Nigerian undergraduates have a high level of achievement motivation. The findings also revealed that majority of Nigerian undergraduates have a positive attitude towards examination. There was a significant correlation between achievement motivation and attitude of Nigerian undergraduates towards examination. The findings also revealed that gender, age, level of study, university and family type had a significant positive influence on undergraduates' achievement motivation and attitude towards examination in Nigeria. It was therefore recommended, among others that counsellors and lecturers should be properly equipped with strategies needed to assist students in developing appropriate achievement motivation level so as to promote positive attitude towards examination.
Family relationship and bullying behaviour among students with disabilities in Ogbomoso, Nigeria Lateef Omotosho Adegboyega, , Falilat Anike Okesina, Olumayowa Ayorinde Jacob, , and International Journal of Instruction, 2017 This paper examined family relationship and bullying behaviour among secondary school students with disabilities in Ogbomoso South, Oyo State, Nigeria. The research design employed for this study was descriptive method of the correlational survey type. The population for this study comprises all secondary school students with disabilities in Ogbomoso South, Oyo State. Two questionnaires were used to collect the necessary data. Bullying Prevalence Questionnaire (BPQ) was adopted from Rigby and Slee (1994). To measure family relationship, the instrument in this section was adopted from Nuhu (2013). Percentage was used to answer the research questions, while Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) statistical technique was used to test the generated hypothesis. The finding of this study revealed that majority of the respondents’ family relationship was negative. The finding also revealed that majority of the respondents bullying behaviour was low. Also, the finding of this study revealed that there is a significant relationship between family relationship and bullying behaviour among secondary school students with disabilities in Ogbomoso South, Oyo State, Nigeria. It was recommended that for bullying to be reduced, the Ministry of Education is responsible for the welfare of people and their development.
