Indicators of Drought Tolerance and Water Productivity in Wheat Cultivars Treated via Seed Soaking and Foliar Application of Melatonin and Micronutrients K Brhan, O A Abdulqader Iop Conference Series Earth and Environmental Science, 2025 A field study was conducted during the 2023/2024 winter growing season in two different locations in Erbil Governorate, Kurdistan Region of Iraq (Ainkawa and Kurdharsha), to investigate the effect of Melatonin and Micronutrients (Zn, Mn, B, Cu, Fe) on drought tolerance indicators and water productivity of two bread wheat cultivars (Haholir2 and Haholir4). The treatments included seed soaking and foliar spraying with melatonin (Concentration 100 μmol L−1) and Micronutrients (at a concentration of 1 g L−1) at the following levels: (M1) no addition of Melatonin (Mel) or Micronutrients (MN), (M2) seed soaking with Mel, (M3) seed soaking with MN, (M4) foliar spraying with Mel, (M5) foliar spraying with MN, (M6) seed soaking and foliar spraying with Mel, and (M7) seed soaking and foliar spraying with MN. The following indicators were studied: antioxidant enzyme activity (SOD and POD), malondialdehyde accumulation (MDA), water productivity, and grain yield. Results showed that treatments involving both soaking and spraying with Melatonin or Micronutrients were the most significantly effective in enhancing physiological responses and improving yield. The M6 treatment (soaking and spraying with melatonin) reduced MDA levels and increased SOD and POD activity, thereby improving resistance to oxidative stress. Cultivar Haholir4 significantly interaction in grain yield and water productivity at the Kurdharsha Location.
RESPONSE OF ANTIOXIDATIVE ENZYMES IN BREAD WHEAT UNDER WATER STRESS AND EXOGENOUS GLYCINE BETAINE Rahma Yahya, Omar Abdulkader Mesopotamia Journal of Agriculture, 2024 The experiment has been conducted in a greenhouse at the University of Mosul - Republic of Iraq, to study the effect of Glycine betaine(GB) on stressed and water-balanced wheat, and the study included three factors: the first factor is two cultivars of wheat, the second factor is water stress using (PEG-6000) (0, -0.6,-1.2 MPa), the third factor is GB (0,100 mmol l-1), and the following traits were studied: CAT, SOD, APOX and RWC in the flag leaf, plant yield, Dry plant weight and harvest index%. The Exogenous of GB improved the resistance of two cultivars to water stress and led to A significant increase in RWC, CAT, SOD, APOX, grain yield and Dry plant weight in the absence and presence of water stress, and GB encourages plants to trend in seed formation and convert the substances they produce into grains. Water stress caused an increase in CAT, SOD, APOX, decreasing RWC.
Response of Growth and Yield of two Broad Bean (Vicia faba L) varieties for antioxidants and diammonium phosphate DAP fertilizer. Osama Mari Hassan Aleuzayr, Omar A. Abdulqader Kufa Journal for Agricultural Sciences, 2024 In the fall agricultural season of 2021-2022, an experiment was conducted in two areas of Nineveh Governorate, the first experiment in Yarmgah and the second one in Badush, each experiment included two types of board bean Vicia faba L to study their response to antioxidants and ammonium phosphate diphosphate fertilizer. The experiment included two factors, the first factor varieties (Aquadlge and Luz de otono) with antioxidants with seven levels. without the addition of catechins and DAP fertilizer, spray and soak at a concentration of 250 mg. L-1 for each of AsA, B1, B6 with the addition of 20 kg DAP. Spray and soak at a concentration of 500 mg.L-1 for each of AsA, B1, B6 with the addition of 20 kg DAP.H -1.spray and soak at a concentration of 250 mg.L-1 for each of AsA, B1, B6 with the addition of 40 kg DAP.H-1, spray and soak at a concentration of 500 mg.L-1 for each of AsA, B1, B6 with the addition of 40 kg DAP.H-1, spray and soak at a concentration of 250 mg.L-1 for each of AsA, B1, B6 with the addition of 60 kg DAP.H-1, and Spray and soak at a concentration of 500 mg.L-1 for each of AsA, B1, B6 with the addition of 60 kg DAP.H-1). The seeds were soaked in water with antioxidants for 6 hours before planting and sprayed with antioxidant until complete wetness took place 30 and 45 days of planting, and the results showed the superiority of the Aquadlge Variety over the Luz de otono variety morally at the Yarmgah and Badush experiment sites for all the studied qualities: the chlorophyll content, the number of pods in the plant, the number of seeds per pod, the number of seeds per plant, the weight of 100 seeds and the protein percentage. The seventh level of the fertilizer combination with antioxidants gave the highest value of all the studied qualities: the chlorophyll content, the number of pods in the plant, the number of seeds in the pod, the number of seeds in the plant, the weight of 100 seeds and the percentage of protein.
NITROGEN FERTILIZER APPLICATION TIME EFFECT ON THE SENESCENCE AND GRAIN YIELD OF DURUM WHEAT (TRITICUM DURUM DESF.) Z. ALHABBAR Sabrao Journal of Breeding and Genetics, 2023 The experiment progressed to evaluate the effects of time nitrogen fertilizer application on the senescence of durum wheat and its association with grain yield and its components. The experimental treatments, set up in a split-plot design, used five durum wheat cultivars (Adnham, Grecale, Duma, Sardar, Svevo) as the main plots, and the time nitrogen fertilizer application (100% tillering, 100% stem elongation, and 50% tillering + 50% stem elongation stages) under two locations in Northern Iraqi conditions. The results of this study indicated that late senescence cultivars (Grecale and Svevo) produced the highest flowering date (123.89 and 123.61 days), number of spikes/m2 (267.2 and 265.6 spikes), number of grains/10 spikes (330.5 and 323.6 grains), grain yield g/m2 (532.2 and 511.6 g), and harvest index% (38.72% and 39.86%). Moreover, the time of nitrogen fertilizer application at the tillering stage (early application) influenced most of the studied traits. Finally, extending photosynthesis capacity during the grain-filling phases by delaying the rate of senescence could be a better approach to improving the grain yield of wheat cultivars.

Effect of volcanic rock dust and Fe-EDTA on the root nodule bacteria and the growth and yield of broad bean plants Omar Abdulmawjood Abdulqader, Muthanna Abdulbasit Ali, Moyassar Mohammed Aziz Agronomia Colombiana, 2021 The experiment was conducted during the 2018 season at the research station of the College of Agriculture and Forestry (University of Mosul, Iraq) to investigate the effect of volcanic rock dust (VRD) (0, 125, 250 g m-2) and the fertilizer chelated Iron Fe-EDTA (0, 100, 200 mg L-1) on the bacteria Rhizobium fabae, and the growth and yield of two broad bean (Vicia faba L.) varieties, Histal and Aquadulce. A randomized complete block design was used with three replicates and least significant difference (LSD) to compare means at a significance level of 0.05. Results showed that VRD 250 g m-2 obtained the highest significant mean for the following traits: leaf area index (LAI), number of branches per plant, leaf contents of chlorophyll and total iron, number of effective bacteria nodules per plant, 100-seed weight, plant yield, and percentage of protein in the seeds. On the other hand, 200 mg L-1 Fe-EDTA obtained the highest significant mean of all the traits for both varieties, except for LAI and number of branches per plant. The application of Fe-EDTA per plant had no significant effect on the leaf content of chlorophyll for both varieties and the percentage of protein in the seeds for variety Aquadulce. The interaction of VRD 250 g m-2 with 200 mg L-1 Fe-EDTA achieved the highest significant average for all the traits, except for plant height.
