They offer some advantages, particularly in cluttered and inhomogeneous environments, for point-to-point applications. The instrumentation usually employed for electromagnetic time reversal involves costly vector network analyzers, different interconnected generators and receivers, or a base station for mobile phones. This article explores the use of a low-cost commercial software-defined radio, in frequencies between 700 MHz and 2100 MHz, with indoor tests showing its performance and observed voltage gains for the received pulse.
Electronic Global Positioning System Jammer Using Software Defined Radios Marcelo Bender Perotoni, Ricardo Gaspar, Alessandro Campos Journal of Aerospace Technology and Management, 2025 This article describes the use of a commercial software-defined radio (SDR) to generate an intentional interfering signal for protection against drones. The system aims to counter unauthorized and offensive drone actions. The particular case of the geo-location system is analyzed, where the sensitivity limit to block its operation is measured in two different receivers: an external Stoton module and a Samsung mobile phone, serving as a drone surrogate. The USRP B-210 software-defined radio, controlled by GNU Radio, was employed to generate the jamming signal. The final experiments took place in an outdoor environment, with two different antennas and in two different sites. Results were compared with literature reports as well as a first-order approximation based on the free-space formula (Friis) free-space propagation formula (Friis). A radius of protection of approximately 29 meters was observed by using the radio with a simple omnidirectional monopole antenna, designed and constructed for this test.

It investigates the frequency-dependent characteristic of conventional laboratory components using vector network analyzer measurements to characterize deviations from ideal lumped-element models. Experimental results demonstrate that standard passive components begin exhibiting significant parasitic effects and transmission line behavior at frequencies in the tens of megahertz range, necessitating the application of Maxwell’s equations and electromagnetic field theory rather than traditional Kirchhoff-based circuit analysis.

Journal of Microwaves Optoelectronics and Electromagnetic Applications, 2025 This article describes a two-element antenna designed in a Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting (DTTB) Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) 2×2 front antenna in the 470 to 700 MHz band. It is based on a planar, canonical, fat-dipole element with low-cost and robust characteristics. Both antenna elements are fed directly by a coaxial connector, without a balun, and have been optimized to provide low coupling, improving their combined diversity gain. The array occupies an area of 0.76λ2o x 0.51λ2o (907 cm2) at the center frequency wavelength. Measurements of the antennas in outdoor urban environments are presented with a technology proponent for the project, the Advanced Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting - Terrestrial (ISDB-T), in 8 urban sites in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The results showed that the proposed MIMO 2×2 antenna operates effectively in outdoor applications, is robust, has a low development cost, and has a low degree of mutual coupling.
