Priyadharshini R has completed her Ph.D. in optical heterogeneous networks from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, College of Engineering Guindy, Anna University. She is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, University College of Engineering Pattukkottai, Anna University. Her research interests are Heterogeneous networks (Fiber-Wireless), Radio over Fiber, RF system design, Wireless Networks (5G/6G).

    The rapid evolution from Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0 demands the implementation of new advanced wireless technologies to enable human-centered, sustainable, and resilient industrial systems. This work discusses the revolutionary effect of 6G wireless communication with ultra-high speed, near-zero latency, and ultra-high connectivity in these Industry 5.0 implementation. This will provide a glimpse into how 6G will enable intelligent manufacturing, personalized medicine, smart transportation, green energy networks, and enhanced human-machine interaction. 6G plays a crucial in realizing Industry 5.0 since it is expected to offer THz communications, AI-native networks, and transparent machine-to-machine communication. 6G will revolutionize industrial operation by bridging the gap between physical and digital domains, resulting in greater efficiency, customization, and sustainability. This study briefs the important considerations involved in implementing next-generation wireless technologies to make the visionary concept of Industry 5.0 a reality.
  • DAPSK – OFDMA PON Based Heterogeneous Optical Network

    The broadband access networks require suitable differential modulation techniques that can provide better performance in real-time fading channels. A heterogeneous optical access network adopting spectrally efficient DAPSK – Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple (OFDMA) - Passive Optical Network (PON) is proposed and simulated. The performance of the proposed heterogeneous network is analyzed in terms of received Bit Error Rate (BER) and spectral efficiency. The results show that 64 DAPSK – OFDMA over the proposed architecture achieves a better spectral efficiency of about 1.062 bps/Hz than 64 QAM – OFDMA with less degradation in error performance.
  • Performance analysis of a heterogeneous network employing DAPSK based OFDMA-PON

    Recent mobile broadband networks require heterogeneous networks supporting high capacity on demand. A hybrid Fiber-Wireless (Fi-Wi) access network integrating Differential Amplitude and Phase Shift Keying (DAPSK) based — Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) Passive Optical Network (PON) and 4G wireless network using Radio over Fiber (RoF) technique is proposed. The proposed heterogeneous network is simulated, and the performance is analyzed in terms of Bit Error Rate (BER), Error Vector Magnitude (EVM), Capacity, and Spectral efficiency. The proposed network is simulated considering a higher data rate of 10 and 25 Gbps, and the effect of system parameters like Laser Power, Fiber Length, and Number of users is analyzed. The results show that a higher network capacity of 720 Gbps with an average capacity of about 45 Gbps and a higher spectral efficiency of 4.85 bps/Hz is achieved for the multi-user heterogeneous network link with sixteen users. The minimum value of optical power sufficient to achieve the desired BER is found to be −6 dBm. The suitability of the proposed integrated architecture in supporting multiple services is analyzed by considering different services at each UE. The spectral efficiency of the multi-service link varies from 3 to 4 bps/Hz.
  • Performance analysis of hybrid Fi-Wi network employing OCDMA based NG-PON

    Fiber-Wireless (Fi-Wi) networks play a crucial role in broadband wireless communication. A hybrid Fi-Wi architecture integrating Optical Code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA) based Next-Generation Passive Optical Network (NGPON) with Long Term Evolution (LTE) is proposed that can provide a higher capacity to the mobile end users, thereby achieving scalability and mobility. Maximal length sequence (M-sequence) codes of code length 31 used can support six users. A simulation study is carried out for the proposed integrated architecture considering multiple users and multiple services, and the performance is analyzed in terms of the received Bit Error Rate (BER) and Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) values. A high capacity of 160 Gbps and a spectral efficiency of 2–4 bps/Hz are achieved for the multi-user and multi-service links with six users.
  • An overview of DAPSK - OFDMA Fundamentals and Design Considerations

    Differential modulation techniques are being employed in future access networks. Differential Amplitude Phase Shift Keying (DAPSK) is a differential modulation technique that combines the features of Differential Phase Shift Keying (DPSK) and Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM). The basic fundamentals and the system design considerations of DAPSK are discussed. A detailed analysis of the QAM and DAPSK modulation techniques carried out reveals that DAPSK is spectrally efficient and hence more suitable for the access network.
  • Integration of OCDMA based NG-PON and Fi-Wi networks for wireless access

    Emerging applications such as High Definition TV (HDTV), video-on-demand, high-quality audio transmission telepresence and digital cinema demand high-throughput access networks with stringent Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. Optical access networks can provide huge bandwidth but it cannot reach every end user. On the other hand, wireless access networks can support mobility to reach every end user but its offered bandwidth is limited. By combining the high capacity of optical fiber network and the mobility of wireless network, fiber-wireless network can provide customers with quad-play services (data, video, voice and mobility). Optical Code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA) is one of the promising multiple access methods for Passive Optical Networks (PONs) since it offers various advantages such as simplified network architecture, protocol transparency, enhanced security and asynchronous operation. Long Term Evolution (LTE) is the most recent and enhanced technology which is being adopted around the world as the primary telecommunication service. As per LTE standard, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is used for downlink and Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) is used for uplink. This paper proposes an architectural integration of OCDMA based Next Generation PON (NG PON) and wireless LTE technology. Spectral Amplitude Coding (SAC) is used for OCDMA.
