    IOP Publishing
Abstract This study proposes an online practicum model supported by Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) to implement a physics practicum after the Covid 19 Pandemic. This system is guided by exploratory inquiry questions to help structure students’ mindsets in answering investigative questions. Online practicum is also integrated with video conferencing, chat, evaluation system, and lab inquiry stages. The sensor measurement process is carried out directly via live streaming video, where the sensor measurement results are sent in real-time to the website via an internet connection. This study was conducted on 25 students (10 male and 15 female) who were prospective physics teachers. This study used a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest and post-test design. The study results show that the online practicum model supported by WSN can effectively increase the inquiry skill of prospective physics teacher students. Usability test results obtained an average score of SUS 91.63, which means the practicum system can be categorized as having a user acceptance level of Excellent.

    IOP Publishing
We suggest a simple, practical device with a wireless sensor network system that can be used to record and display data from a spring oscillation system in real-time on a website. The HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor was utilized to detect changes in load position in the damped spring oscillation system, and the Node-MCU ESP266 was used to transmit data from sensor readings to the server over the internet network. The damping factor, damping coefficient, and spring damping frequency could be utilized to calculate the exponential function graph fitting outcome.

  • Real-time data acquisition of dynamic moving objects
    H Saputra, A Suhandi, A Setiawan, A Permanasari, and R A Putra

    IOP Publishing
Abstract The problem frequently encountered in physics practicum activities is measuring instruments in limited reading data variable time of dynamic moving objects. In practical exercises needed the accuracy of measurement data to avoid a mistake in analysis and interpretation data. R-TDA of Dynamic Moving Objects measurement tool is expected to be a solution to overcome these problems. The electronic components used are Infra-Red Obstacle Sensor, connector cable, NodeMCU. The principle of this device is to send a recording time of modulo infrared to the cloud server and accessed via a smartphone and Personal Computer. The results show the sensor a responsive time of 6.8 x 10-11 seconds, and the effect of gravity acceleration of 9,70 m/s2 close to universal gravity acceleration 9,81 m/s2 with an average relative error of 1.22%. The R-TDA of Dynamic Moving Objects has a high response time and accuracy in recording the time of dynamic moving objects.

Abstract A Multitools instrument was developed to measure physical variables such as temperature, magnetic field, and light intensity. Multitools developed using the device of ATMEGA 8535 microcontroller that consists of three sensors: LM35 as a temperature sensor, LDR as a light sensor, and UGN3503 as magnetic field sensor. The design consisted of three stages, namely system design, hardware design, and calibration phase. The calibration test result of Multitools shows alignment level of the temperature sensor 0.9893, light sensor 0.9787 and magnetic sensor 0.9996. Measurement result displayed in physical quantities data and graph on the LCD screen of Multitools. The Multitools can be used in physics lab activity to reduce the effectiveness and train the students’ skill in understanding and interpreting the graph.

  • Pre-service teacher's physics attitude towards physics laboratory in Aceh
    H Saputra, A Suhandi, A Setiawan, and A Permanasari

    IOP Publishing
Abstract This research aims to find out the pre-service teacher’s physics attitude towards physics laboratory in one of the Universities in Aceh. The research method uses a quantitative descriptive approach. Data collection techniques used a scale questionnaire that was adapted from several previous researchers. The Subject of this study is 45 physics student prospective students who were taken from the semester, II, IV, and IV as subjects of the study. The data analysis technique is done by calculating the mean of each aspect and indicator and the independent t-test to see differences in attitudes based on gender. Overall, the results of the study showed a negative attitude towards physical practicum activities with the acquisition of a mean of 2.78. The statistical test results for normally distributed and homogeneous data show no significant differences (df. 43, sig. 0.90> 0.04) between the attitudes of male and female students. Negative attitudes towards physics laboratory are caused by the design of practicum verification that does not provide benefits to improve understanding, practice scientific inquiry skills, thinking skills, and solving physics problems. Efforts to improve attitudes toward physics practicum can be done through the design of practical activities oriented to humanistic psychology and constructivism by involving students actively investigating.

  • Cognitive style and gender differences in a conceptual understanding of mathematics students
    W Kusumaningsih, H A Saputra, and A N Aini

    IOP Publishing
Abstract This study aimed to analyze the understanding of mathematics concepts of cognitive style students based on gender in the matrix material. This research is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The data collected from high school students of class XI in a cognitive style of male and female. The technique of data collecting used in this research are tests, interviews and also equipped with documentation. The data analysis techniques in this research are data reduction, data display and conclusion/verification. The data validity used triangulation technique. The results showed that cognitive style between male and female students have a similarity understanding of mathematics concepts in indicators that give examples or examples of the counter of the learned concepts and have differences in understanding of mathematics concepts; redefine the concepts in mathematics; connect the various concepts in mathematics as well as outside mathematics; identify the characteristic of procedure or theory and present the idea in various forms of mathematical representation. Based on data analysis, it can be concluded that the understanding of mathematics concepts of cognitive style on the male is better than on the female.

  • Profile of inquiry skills pre-service physics teacher in Aceh
    H Saputra, A Suhandi, and A Setiawan

    IOP Publishing
This study purposed to explore the inquiry literacy of pre-service physics teacher’s skill in Aceh. The subject was 85 pre-service physics teacher from two universities in Aceh. The study used descriptive-quantitative approach, and ScInqLiT instrument to measure the skill of inquiry literacy which is developed by Wenning. Data analyse result showed the average score of formulating the hypothesis is 45,5 % (enough), making prediction is 29,0% (low), designing experiment procedure is 57,0% (enough), scientific investigating is 26,9% (low), analyse and interpreting data is 33,0% (low), applying the numeric and statistic method is 46,6%, explaining unpredictable result is 34,2%, and using technology is 28,5%(low). Over all, the conclusion of inquiry skill of pre-service physics teachers are low and need to be improved for all aspect. The low inquiry skill because they are never be introduced by learning activity, verify experiment design and intellectual skill.
