A Neural Network-Based Smart Energy Management System for a Multi-Source DC-DC Converter in Electric Vehicle Applications Nalin Kant Mohanty, Gandhiram Harishram, V. Hareis, S. Kumar, Vellaiswamy Rajeswari World Electric Vehicle Journal, 2026 This article introduces a new Multi-Source DC-DC converter-based smart energy management system on a common DC bus architecture, utilizing solar PV and wind sources for electric vehicle applications. The common DC bus enables coordinated power flow control among multiple sources while maintaining modularity and flexibility. To promote efficient battery charging and discharging, as well as enhanced protection from faults, an artificial neural network (ANN) approach has been incorporated. The main function of the ANN controller is to detect faults in the EV battery for timely intervention. Compared to existing topologies, its coordinated integration and control can operate effectively under dynamic conditions and improve stability. Additionally, the article presents the operating principle, modes of operation, design analysis, and control strategy. The simulation results of the proposed system are evaluated through MATLAB Simulink software 2024b. Furthermore, a 200 W laboratory prototype was developed to validate the system’s dynamic performance under various operating conditions.
A Robust Controller of a New Transformer-Less Quasi-Switched Converter with Low Current Ripples for Electric Vehicle Applications V. Rajeswari, Nalin Kant Mohanty 2025 4th International Conference on Power Control and Computing Technologies Icpc2t 2025, 2025 This article presents a novel transformer-less modified structure of a quasi-switched non-isolated converter applicable for auxiliary loads in electric vehicles. The primary feature of this quasi-arrangement is providing continuous load current with low-order ripples operating at a nominal duty cycle range. In comparison to existing configurations, the proposed topology achieves higher efficiency, a better voltage conversion ratio, and alleviates voltage, and current stresses across the power switch. Furthermore, the converter is designed with fewer components and optimized with a robust controller, a Model Predictive Control (MPC) is incorporated to achieve better output response, reduced peak overshoot at 0.3%, and faster settling time. Overall, the system achieves a peak efficiency of approximately $\\mathbf{9 6. 2 \\%}$. The operating principle, theoretical, steady state analysis, and comparison with existing topologies have also been incorporated. To validate the system’s performance, a 200 W hardware prototype will be built, developed, and tested to verify the experimental results.
A Robust Controller for a Novel Single-Switch Non-Isolated Converter with Low-Order Ripples for Electric Vehicle Chargers V. Rajeswari, Nalin Kant Mohanty Sustainability Switzerland, 2024 High-efficiency non-isolated converters play a predominant role in electric vehicle on-board chargers to enhance the sustainability of EV charging stations. A novel single-switch configuration connected in a new parallel structure offering a higher efficiency than recently reported topologies is introduced in this article. A PV source powered single switch–switched capacitor–single inductor (SS–SC–SL) arrangement employing an intelligent, robust controller (MPC) is proposed to build a sustainable framework for electric vehicles. Notable features of this topology include improved voltage regulation, a high output gain, and maintaining a ripple-free continuous load current at a nominal duty cycle range which is commonly applicable for electric vehicle on-board chargers. In addition, several factors are included, as follows: design considerations, theoretical analysis, converter performance in CCM, and comparison with existing configurations. The converter simulation results are executed using the MATLAB software 2022a, and to verify the system performance, an experimental setup of 150 W is built and tested. The hardware results of a higher efficiency at 96.9% and a ripple-less continuous load current are achieved and validated in the laboratory.
