Sparse Bayesian Least Squares Regression Model for Direction of Arrival Estimation in Massive MIMO Networks Anne Gowda Aleri Byregowda, Babu Nallur Venkateshappa, Puttamadappa Cheluvegowda Mathematical Modelling of Engineering Problems, 2025 Massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna arrays pose significant challenges in terms of accuracy, efficiency and computational complexity in directionof-arrival (DOA) estimation, particularly in fifth-generation (5G) and beyond fifthgeneration (B5G) networks.Current DOA estimation methods, including cluster-based, spatial-temporal, and machine-learning approaches, struggle in dynamic and noisy environments, incurring inaccuracy in DOA estimation and substantial computational demands. To overcome these issues, this research work introduces a Sparse Bayesian Least Squares Regression (SBLSR) model designed explicitly for massive MIMO systems, which employs an advanced least squares regression technique.Unlike existing sparse Bayesian models or regression-based estimators, SBLSR introduces an adaptive probabilistic framework that iteratively adjusts regression weights for dynamic noise conditions, achieving near-Cramer-Rao lower bounds (CRLB) accuracy with significantly lower complexity.By combining Bayesian probabilistic modelling with least squares regression, the SBLSR significantly enhances estimation accuracy, particularly in environments with high levels of noise. Finally, the simulation results indicate that the proposed SBLSR method improves DOA estimation accuracy and reduces root mean square error (RMSE) values for various signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) limits when compared to existing approaches.
Accurate Direction of Arrival Estimation for 5G MIMO Sparse Channel Using Advanced Multikernel Based NNSBL Anne Gowda A B, Babu N V 3rd International Conference on Integrated Circuits and Communication Systems Icicacs 2025, 2025 Accurate estimation of the Direction of Arrival (DOA) in MIMO communication systems is essential for efficient signal analysis and noise cancellation, especially in challenging conditions. Traditional methods often struggle with computational inefficiencies and degraded performance in complex environments. This paper addresses these challenges by introducing an innovative approach that integrates antenna reconfiguration with an advanced Kernel-based Non-Negative Sparse Bayesian Learning (NNSBL) algorithm, applied to a predefined grid. The method leverages sparse representations and Bayesian principles, enhanced with multi-kernel techniques, to improve adaptability to the complexities of MIMO channels. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves superior performance, particularly at high Signal-to-Noise Ratios (SNRs). RMSE values are reduced from 1.75 for conventional NNSBL to 1.43 for the advanced multi-kernel NNSBL at optimal configurations. Additionally, the spectral analysis shows sharper and more accurate peaks at higher SNR values (20 dB to 30 dB), with noticeable improvements in DOA pinpointing compared to traditional techniques. These findings highlight the method's capability to adapt effectively to complex MIMO channel dynamics, offering reliable and computationally efficient solutions tailored to modern 5G wireless communication systems.
A Comprehensive Survey on Subspace-based Direction of Arrival Estimation Algorithms: Performance, Accuracy and Complexity Analysis A B Anne Gowda, N V Babu, N Anughna, J J Jijesh Proceedings of 3rd IEEE International Conference on Knowledge Engineering and Communication Systems Ickecs 2025, 2025 Direction of Arrival (DOA) estimation is a critical problem in array signal processing, with applications in radar, wireless communications, and sonar systems. Subspace-based algorithms, such as MUSIC, R-MUSIC, and ESPRIT, have gained prominence due to their high-resolution capabilities and robustness against noise. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of these algorithms, focusing on their theoretical foundations, computational complexity, and estimation accuracy under different Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) conditions. A comparative analysis is performed using a uniform linear array (ULA) with 30 elements and 500 snapshots, evaluating the root mean square error (RMSE) and computational operations required for each algorithm. Results indicate that R-MUSIC achieves the highest accuracy at the cost of increased complexity, while ESPRIT offers significant computational efficiency with slightly reduced accuracy. The study offers insights into algorithm selection for real-world applications, striking a balance between precision and computational feasibility in subspace-based DOA estimation techniques.
Enhancing Image Dehazing Efficiency with Dual Colour Space Attentional Deep Networks Ashwini A M, Anne Gowda A B, Sridevi N, Nanditha Krishna, Babu N V, Anil Kumar D International Journal of Sensors Wireless Communications and Control, 2025 Aims and Background: Image dehazing is an essential task in computer-vision, aimed at enhancing the clarity and visibility of images degraded by fog and haze. Traditional methods often struggle with handling the complex scattering effects of haze and maintaining the natural colours of the scene. Objectives and Methodology: To address these challenges, we propose a novel approach termed Dual Colour Space Attentional Deep Network (DCSADN) for efficient image dehazing. Our method leverages the advantages of two-colour spaces: RGB and YCbCr, to boost the network's skill to capture both the luminance and chrominance information, thereby improving the dehazing performance. We employ a multi-stage training strategy to optimize the performance of the DCSADN. This multi-stage approach ensures that the network generalizes well across different types of haze conditions. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of our method over state-of-the-art dehazing techniques. Results: The results indicate that our approach not only achieves higher quantitative scores in terms of Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) and Structural Similarity Index (SSIM) but also produces dehazed images with more natural colours and details. Conclusion: The findings reveal that the dual colour space processing and attentional modules are crucial for the enhanced performance of our method and providing a valuable tool for improving image quality in hazy conditions.
A Novel Gabor Filtering and Adaptive Histogram Equalization Method for Improving Images Anne Gowda A B, Nataraja N, Santosh Kumar S, Sunil Kumar K N, Satya Srikanth Palle International Journal on Recent and Innovation Trends in Computing and Communication, 2023 The correct information may only sometimes be effectively conveyed by images due to various factors, such as excessively bright or dark lighting and low or high contrast. As a result, picture improvement has become an essential part of digital image processing. This proposed method aims to develop an algorithm for improving photos captured in dark environments. This letter presents a new picture-enhancing approach that combines median and Gabor filtering using the wavelet domain with histogram equalization working over a spatial domain. The proposed method in this paper combines spatial and transformed domains for image enhancement and has been simulated using MATLAB. The simulation results of two different photos show that the suggested approach extends the histogram over a wide range of grayscale, offering a superior improvement to the original image. The novel proposed algorithm aims to improve image quality and visibility, making identifying essential details within the image easier. Further, the proposed technique's success is manifested by examining the produced photos' contrast and brightness. The findings reveal that the suggested technique beats the other strategies for improving low-contrast photos.
An image enhancement method based on gabor filtering in wavelet domain and adaptive histogram equalization Jeevan K M, Anne Gowda A B, Padmaja Vijay Kumar Indonesian Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, 2021
The images are not always good enough to convey the proper information. The image may be very bright or very dark sometime or it may be low contrast or high contrast. Because of these reasons image enhancement plays important role in digital image processing. In this paper we proposed an image enhancement technique in which Gabor and median filtering is performed in wavelet domain and Adaptive Histogram Equalization is performed in spatial domain. Brightness and contrast are the two parameters used for analyzing the performance of the proposed method

Centroiding and connected component labeling for radar images using image processing algorithms Ramesha M, Sridhara S.B, Anughna N, Anne Gowda A B, Veeresh Patil Proceedings of the International Conference on Smart Technologies in Computing Electrical and Electronics Icstcee 2020, 2020 The main objective of this paper is to identify centroids for the given image using connected component labeling technique. Imaging radars are used to acquire the images of the required target and it produces 2D images. The imaging radar used here is wall penetrating radar which explores the targets behind the wall. The images obtained from this imaging radar are subjected to some processes like thresholding and filtering in order to improve the image characteristics. The region of interest is then defined using a technique called connected component labeling where the image is scanned and the pixels grouped into components based on pixel connectivity. All the pixels in the connected component of an image exhibit same pixel intensity values which are connected together. When all the groups in an image have been identified then each pixel will be labeled with a gray level or color labeling based on the component it was specified. Finally, these individually identified objects are located with centroid, these centroids show the presence of the targets. The main goal is to remove noise/clutters in an image in an efficient manner and to locate individual object in an image by a single point called centroid.
