  • TRAINING THE PERSON UNDERGOING TOTAL HIP ARTHROPLASTY: CASE REPORT
Cristina Magalhães, Patrícia Marina Pereira da Costa, Ana Paula Pinheiro Pereira, Fátima Campos, Teresa Martins
Revista Portuguesa De Enfermagem De Reabilitacao, 2026

  • Presenteeism and Burnout in Nurses: A Review of the Literature
Ana Catarina Vaz, Maria Vermelho, Miriam Silva, Pedro Costa, Sónia Margarida Dinis, et al.
    Encyclopedia, 2025
Presenteeism, characterized by going to work sick, has become increasingly prevalent in nursing, a profession with high social and interpersonal demands. It is associated with a deterioration of the health of nurses, a reduction in the excellence of care, and a decrease in safety for users. Burnout is related to stress and mental overload and is characterized by exhaustion and fatigue. Objective: To map the evidence on the relationship between presenteeism and burnout in nurses. Methods: A literature review was carried out using the EBSCOHost Research search engine in various databases. Eight studies were selected and analyzed. Results: The studies identify a consistent relationship between burnout and presenteeism in nurses. Emotional exhaustion, resulting from burnout, can lead nurses to go to work despite being ill, due to a sense of responsibility, ethical duty, or organizational pressures. Most studies are cross-sectional, which limits the ability to establish causal relationships and identify specific interventions to reduce burnout-related presenteeism in nursing. Conclusions: It is essential to invest in health management policies for nurses to reduce burnout and minimize the consequences of presenteeism.

    Management Montevideo, 2025
Introduction: Presenteeism in nursing refers to physical presence at work with physical and mental limitations, even when the professional has physical or mental limitations that compromise their performance. This phenomenon has significant repercussions on productivity, professional well-being and patient safety, highlighting the need for effective strategies to mitigate it.Objective: To summarize the main intervention strategies aimed at reducing the effects of presenteeism among nurses, analysing their causes, consequences and effectiveness.Method: A critical narrative analysis was carried out, based on studies selected from a search of databases such as CINAHL® Plus and MEDLINE®. Articles published in the last 10 years in Portuguese, English and Spanish were included. Results: The causes of presenteeism include organizational, psychosocial, physical and mental factors. The consequences include loss of productivity, risks to patient safety and worsening of the worker's health. Effective interventions include physical activity programs, mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral therapy, auricular acupressure, multi-component workplace health promotion programmes, competency-based education and management of musculoskeletal disorders. Positive effects were observed in symptom reduction, increased productivity, well-being, safety and reduced organizational costs. Conclusion: Integrated strategies that combine organizational and individual approaches, show the best results, promoting the health and well-being of nurses, improving patient safety and reducing organizational costs.

    Salud Ciencia Y Tecnologia, 2025
Introduction: Idiopathic scoliosis, known as a three-dimensional alteration in the shape and position of the spine, is highly prevalent in children and adolescents. It causes major motor, respiratory, social and psychological limitations. After determining the degree and location of the scoliosis, corrective surgery may be indicated in the most advanced situations. Objective: Identify rehabilitation programs to be implemented for people undergoing corrective surgery for scoliosis, in the post-operative period, in a hospital setting. Methods: A narrative review was carried out using a bibliographic search on EBSCOhost, with the words: scoliosis, hospitalization, postoperative period, rehabilitation, nursing, functionality, exercises, physical, postural and pulmonary, over the last 5 years. Results: The 9 studies included were mostly primary, focused on knowledge and instruction for people with scoliosis, the importance of respiratory and motor rehabilitation, body balance and self-care in activities of daily living. Several authors suggest building rehabilitation protocols for people with scoliosis, from pre- to post-surgery, due to the gains in functionality and quality of life that can be achieved. Conclusions: The core areas of rehabilitation intervention for people undergoing corrective surgery for scoliosis in the post-operative period are functional respiratory re-education, functional motor re-education and re-education of body balance and self-care.

From this reflection emerge the bases for the practice and formulation of health policies in the area of patient safety, in order to minimize the risks of falls and their occurrence in aged people, in hospital environments and community contexts
  • Rehabilitation Nursing Care for a patient undergoing corrective surgery for scoliosis: case report
Luís Sousa, Carla Raposo, Nelson Guerra, Fabiana Faleiros, Geyslane Albuquerque, et al.
    Salud Ciencia Y Tecnologia, 2024
Introduction: Scoliosis is characterized by three-dimensional changes in the spine, mainly in the thoracic and/or lumbar region, leading to musculoskeletal and pulmonary changes and changes in the person's functionality. After corrective spinal surgical intervention, the intervention of a rehabilitation nurse becomes essential, in order to guide and optimize the person's training and empowerment, in this phase of health-disease transition.Clinical Case Report: Clinical case study, inherent to the situation of a person undergoing corrective surgery for scoliosis. The nursing process was carried out, through data collection, evaluation, diagnosis survey, rehabilitation nursing interventions, and the respective results assessment. The numerical pain scale, the body balance assessment, the Barthel Index, the Functional Independence Measure and the Timed Up and Go test were used as assessment instruments. Based on the International Classification for Nursing Practice and the Rehabilitation Nurse Specialist standard of care document.Discussion: The rehabilitation nursing plan implemented for the person undergoing corrective surgery for scoliosis contributed beneficially to the improvement of the ventilation pattern, muscle strength, mobility, gait, independence in carrying out self-care and increased functionality. There was an increase in knowledge and training in techniques to adapt to their situation, favoring a safe transition to home after hospital discharge. Conclusion: In view of musculoskeletal and ventilatory changes, a Motor Functional Reeducation and Respiratory Functional Reeducation plan is extremely important, in association with the person's teaching and training plan.
