Iron Doped Nickel Oxide Electrochemical Sensor for Enhanced Detection of Amitrole and Bentazone in Environmental Samples H.R. Sahana, Y. Arthoba Nayaka, E. Pradeepa Chemistryselect, 2025 Amitrole (AMT) and Bentazone (BTZ) have been the most commonly used herbicides in agro‐areas to preserve crops, but their extensive usage pollutes the environment, particularly when combined with soil or water. The modified carbon paste electrode ((Fe)NiO/CPE) with Fe‐doped nickel oxide nanoparticles has been developed in an attempt to address these environmental challenges. XRD, SEM, and EDX technologies have been employed to characterize nanoparticles used for the modification. The electro‐oxidation process showed the largest peak current at pH 7.0 for both AMT and BTZ, indicating that pH 7.0 has been found to be the optimal investigation pH for further electrochemical investigations. The electro‐oxidation behavior of AMT and BTZ have been investigated by utilizing various methodologies including cyclic voltammetry (CV), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) and square wave voltammetry (SWV) in 0.1 M phosphate buffer solution (PBS) of pH 7.0 at bare and modified carbon paste electrodes. The electroactive surface areas of the (Fe)NiO/CPE, NiO/CPE, and BCPE electrodes have been found to be 0.153, 0.088, and 0.043 cm2, respectively. Electro‐oxidation behavior of AMT and BTZ has been influenced by various electro‐kinetic parameters, including heterogeneous rate constant, scan rate, pH, surface concentration, and the quantity of electrons transported have been resolved. Under the investigational conditions, the anodic peak current of the analyte is directly proportional to its concentration in the range 1.0–12.0 µM, with the limit of detection (LOD) being 3.14 × 10−8 M and 0.441 × 10−8 for AMT and BTZ, respectively. The modified electrode's sensitivity and implementation have been assessed through a real sample study of AMT and BTZ in water and soil samples, confirming its analytical significance.
Reversible Thermochromism in Lead-Free 2D Copper-Based Perovskites for Smart Solar Applications Swapna Shambulinga Chigari, Vidyasagar C. C., Guruprasad Bonageri, Víctor M. Jiménez-Pérez, Arthoba Nayaka Yanjerappa, Raghu S. ACS Applied Optical Materials, 2025 The present study has focused on toxic lead-free low-dimensional hybrid perovskites due to their impressive optoelectronic properties, highlighting concerns over their environmental stability and toxicity. In light of this, versatile 2D lead-free (CH 3 NH 3 ) 2 CuCl 4 (CuP), Co-infused (CH 3 NH 3 ) 2 CuCl 4 (CCuP), and Ni-infused (CH 3 NH 3 ) 2 CuCl 4 (NCuP) hybrid perovskites are synthesized via the sono-coprecipitation method with a potential compositional engineering approach and dopant effects studied using different characterization tools. The diffractograms reveal that the partial dopant Co and Ni insertion at the “B”- site of the (CH 3 NH 3 ) 2 CuCl 4 crystal effectively modified the optical bandgaps from 2.29 to 2.16 eV. The perovskites display a spectrum of colors (yellow, orange, red, and dark brown) accompanied by thermal-induced lattice expansion, phase transition, and electron–phonon interactions. Lattice dynamics, structural and optical features are explored to gain insights into the effects of cation infusion on thermochromism and other characteristics. The in situ temperature-dependent powder VT-XRD, VT-Raman, and VT-UV–vis spectra were analyzed in heating and cooling cycles. Notably, it is discovered that the degree of thermochromism is possibly depending on the dopant used. Repetitive heating–cooling cycles showed minimal fluctuation in VT-XRD, demonstrating excellent stability with thermochromic properties. Cyclic voltammetry was performed for the first time on these copper-based perovskites to investigate the electrochemical activity with plausible oxidation and reduction reactions. Dielectric characteristics and AC conductivity at different temperatures have been studied. A sustainable post-treatment technique resulted in excellent stability, crystallinity, and tailored grain boundaries at the nanoscale using a solvent with a lower Gutmann donor number and Kamlet–Taft parameter. The present study provides insights into the basic principles governing thermochromic behavior and possibilities for the thoughtful development of perovskites. These are believed to be the optimal results for the systems that have been reported to date.
Carbon Sphere-Infused PET CS/PET: Enhancing Energy Storage Efficiency of Vanadium Flow Batteries and Supercapacitors Gireeshkumar Basavaraj Chavati, Sharath Kumar Basavaraju, Arthoba Nayaka Yanjerappa, Malashri Boraiah Sannaobaiah, Handanahally Basavarajaiah Muralidhara, Krishna Venkatesh, Keshavanarayana Gopalakrishna Energy Storage, 2025 The recycling of widely available polyethylene terephthalate (PET) into activated carbon–carbon sphere composites represents a sustainable approach for developing advanced energy storage materials. In this study, a novel carbon sphere@polyethylene terephthalate (CS/PET) active material was synthesized using a cost‐effective hydrothermal process, integrating dextrose‐derived oxygen‐rich carbon spheres and PET‐derived activated carbon. This eco‐friendly composite was utilized to modify 132 cm2 graphite felt electrodes for vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFBs) and served as an active material in supercapacitors. As a positive electrode electrocatalyst in VRFBs, the CS/PET‐modified electrode achieved a coulombic efficiency (CE) of 88.43%, a voltage efficiency (VE) of 59.79%, and an energy efficiency (EE) of 51.92%, with excellent stability over 100 cycles. For supercapacitor applications, the CS/PET composite exhibited an impressive specific capacitance of 193 F/g at 2 A/g, delivering 100% coulombic efficiency and 92% retention over 2500 cycles. These results highlight the potential of CS/PET composites as cost‐effective, clean, and high‐performance materials for sustainable energy storage systems, demonstrating significant promise for meeting future energy demands while addressing global environmental challenges.
