Amplitude and Phase Synchronization Stability of Auditory Evoked Potentials with Influence of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Arief R. Harris, Azli Yahya, Tan Tian Swee Malaysian Journal of Fundamental and Applied Sciences, 2025 The integration of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) with Electroencephalography (EEG) offers a robust framework for investigating brain function and underlying neural mechanisms. While most TMS-EEG studies have focused on TMS-evoked potentials (TEPs) to examine the immediate cortical effects of TMS, limited attention has been given to its influence on the auditory cortex, particularly in terms of how long the modulation persists. This study aims to analyze the effects of TMS on Auditory Evoked Potentials (AEPs), with a focus on changes observed 1 and 2 seconds after stimulation. Single-pulse TMS was applied with a 4-second interstimulus interval (ISI) and presented simultaneously with auditory stimuli delivered at a 1-second ISI. The influence of TMS on AEPs was assessed using time-domain averaging and phase synchronization stability analysis. Results showed minimal differences in the averaged N100 and P200 components between TMS and sham conditions at 2 seconds post-stimulation with ANOVA p=0.08. However, phase stability analysis revealed significantly higher synchronization in the N100 wave 1 second after TMS ANOVA p=0.01, followed by increased stability in the P200 and P300 components compared to the sham condition. These findings highlight the importance of advanced analytical techniques in detecting subtle and transient neural changes induced by TMS. By providing insights into the temporal characteristics of TMS-modulated auditory processing, this study contributes to the development of more targeted diagnostic and therapeutic applications involving non-invasive brain stimulation.
Comparative Analysis of Single-Phase and Dual-Phase Interleaved Flyback Converters for Micro-EDM Applications Yahya Mohammed Sinjab, Azli Yahya, Abd Rahim Mat Sidek Ece 2025 2025 2nd International Conference on Electronic and Computer Engineering, 2025 Micro-EDM expands the capabilities of Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) to sub <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$100 \mu \mathrm{m}$</tex> to be implemented not only in advanced materials prototyping and machining, but also in applications related to nanotechnology. However, providing consistent, low ripple, discharged energy to ensure consistent Material Removal Rate (MRR), along with high quality surface finishing, is one of the major challenges that Micro-EDM faces. This paper presents a comparative simulation study between conventional single-phase and a dual-phase interleaved Flyback design, both simulated in a semi-ideal environment. Both converters target <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$V_{0}=60 \mathrm{V}, I_{0}=0.2 \mathrm{A}, \mathrm{D}= 50 \%, \mathrm{C}_{\mathrm{o}}=0.33 \mu \mathrm{F}, \mathrm{R}=300 \Omega$</tex>, and a 5% ripple ratio. Influence of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation to Auditory Evoked Potentials Arief R. Harris, Azli Yahya, Nasrul Humaimi Mahmood, Tan Tian Swee Ece 2025 2025 2nd International Conference on Electronic and Computer Engineering, 2025 The application of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) with Electroencephalography (EEG) provides a powerful framework for investigating brain function and neural dynamics. While most TMS-EEG studies have focused on TMS-evoked potentials (TEPs) to examine immediate cortical effects, limited research has explored the influence of TMS on the auditory cortex, particularly regarding the persistence of its effects over time. This study investigates the impact of TMS on Auditory Evoked Potentials (AEPs), focusing on responses measured 1- and 2-seconds poststimulation. Single-pulse TMS was administered with a 4 second interstimulus interval (ISI), concurrently with auditory stimuli presented at a 1 -second ISI. AEPs were analyzed using both time-domain averaging and phase synchronization stability methods. Results showed minimal differences in the averaged N100 and P200 components between TMS and sham conditions at 2 seconds post-stimulation (ANOVA, <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$p=0.08)$</tex>. In contrast, phase stability analysis revealed significantly higher synchronization in the N100 component 1 second after TMS <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$(p =0.01)$</tex>, along with increased stability in the P200 and P300 components compared to the sham condition. These findings emphasize the value of advanced analytical techniques in detecting subtle, time-sensitive neural changes induced by TMS. By revealing the temporal profile of TMS-induced modulation in auditory processing, this study contributes to the refinement of non-invasive brain stimulation techniques for diagnostic and therapeutic applications.
Optimum Material Removal in Electrical Discharge Machining through Advanced Control Integration of PSoC Microcontroller , Azli Yahya, , Abd Rahim Mat Sidek, , Tan Tian Swee, , , Jahanzeb Sheikh, , , Matthias Tiong Foh Thye, , Leong Kah Meng, , Mohd Azahar Che Abdullah, , Jaysuman Pusppanathan, , Syafiqah Saidin, , , Bentantya Nugroho, , Norhalimah Idris, and Jurnal Kejuruteraan, 2025 Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is an advanced non-traditional method for precision material removal using repeated electrical discharges. Itutilizes a programmable tool electrode to intricately shape designs. Existing research has highlighted that current EDM control systems are often intricate, sluggish, and costly. In addressing these limitations, there is a notable opportunity to enhance the design of an advanced EDM control system, that is both sophisticated and cost-effective. Therefore, the authors proposed an integration of a pulse generator, control system, timer, and flushing system using a Programmable System-on-Chip (PSoC) microcontroller to regulate the gap between an electrode a workpiece, flushing system, and the overall EDM machining process. The pulse generator algorithm was developed to effi ciently manage Ton and Toff, while the Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) algorithm was employed to uphold the gap between the electrode and the workpiece. Additionally, the timer algorithm was closely associated with the machining process timing. Activation of the second servo pump at 80% of machining was implemented to enhance the flushing pressure rate. The EDM-PSoC system was utilized with the experiment conduction at three different current settings (2A, 4A, and 6A) over five periods, and results were compared with the EDM-Existing system. The experimental outcomes revealed a notable increase in Material Removal Rate (MRR),averaging 0.1348 mm3/min at 6A. Furthermore, the EDM-PSoC system demonstrated high consistency in each repetition experiment conducted at lower currents, achieving MRRs of 0.0142 mm3/min at 2A and 0.0560 mm3/min at 4A. Comparatively, the EDM-PSoC system improved the average MRR by 49% compared to the traditional EDM-Existing system. The depth of the machined workpiece produced by the EDM-PSoC system was deeper than the EDM-Existing system at equivalent time settings. Consequently, the findings indicate that the EDM-PSoC system achieved a higher MRR relative to the conventional EDM procedure, thus improving significantly the system efficiency.

Comparative Efficacy Assessment of Solitary SMD Beaded Ultraviolet-C Light Emitting Diodes for Enhanced Disinfection of High-Touch Surfaces (Optimization of Surface Disinfection utilizing SMD beaded UV-C LEDs) , Jahanzeb Sheikh, , Tan Tian Swee, , , Syafiqah Saidin, , , Azli Yahya, , Sameen Ahmed Malik, , Chua Lee Suan, , Jose Javier Serrano, , Matthias Tiong Foh Thye, , Leong Kah Meng, , , Jawad Shafique, and Jurnal Kejuruteraan, 2024 Ultraviolet (UV) light-emitting diodes (LED) have gained attention for substituting conventional disinfection methods due to efficiency, environmental benefits, and safety since the early 2000s. Earlier research has investigated highpower UV-disinfection systems employing UV tubes for effectively disinfecting surfaces. However, such systems come with several limitations, including the delicacy of UV tubes, the mercury component, and the larger size of the equipment, requiring trained professionals for handling. Additionally, owing to their larger size, these systems are unable to adequately treat shaded spaces, resulting in insufficient disinfection. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate and compare the efficacy of surface mount device (SMD)-beaded UV-C LEDs against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) bacterium to elucidate the self-reliant disinfection capacity, focusing on achieving peak disinfection efficiency up to 15 cm for treating high-touch regions. Under maximum exposure settings (15 cm, 60 s), a considerable reduction of 1.7-log10 inactivation was achieved with KW6565 upon exposure to 0.054 mJ-cm-², corresponding to an efficiency of 98%. This swift decline led to a reduction in bacterial concentration from the initial level to 1.00x108 CFU/mL. However, the RZX variant necessitated the dose of 0.018 mJ-cm-² to achieve a 1.6-log10 inactivation or 97.6% percent reduction under similar exposure settings. The efficacy of both the 4W variants were notably impacted by the UV dose (p<0.05) at different distances, compared to the control group, revealing a positive correlation with the bactericidal rate. To conclude, this research substantiated the potential of a 4W UV-LED to establish an enhanced disinfection strategy, particularly for treating shady spaces.
