Experimental investigation on thermal performance of polyurethane foam mattresses with PCM M. Raja, S. Sivalakshmi, T. Balusamy, B. Musthafa, M. Sudharshan, Ashish Goyal, Abhijit Bhowmik Discover Applied Sciences, 2025 This study aims to analyse the heat dissipation characteristics polyurethane foam mattresses by integrating Phase Change Materials (PCMs). such as Low-Density Foam, High Density Foam, Low Density Foam with PCM, High Density Foam with PCM, Ventilated Low Density Foam, Ventilated High Density Foam, Ventilated Low Density Foam with PCM, and Ventilated High-Density Foam with PCM were meticulously studied in a controlled environment. By systematically varying foam density, PCM inclusion, and airflow optimization strategies, this research identifies the most effective configuration for achieving superior thermal comfort and temperature regulation. It is observed form the studies that the low-density polyurethane foam mattress integrated with PCM demonstrates promising thermo-regulatory performance, making it a viable option for individuals seeking enhanced sleep quality.
Analysis of ECM performance using critic GRA method Ravi V.P, Raja M, Balusamy T, Anbarasan P, Sankaran R.A International Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences, 2025 A hybrid CRITIC-GRA method is adopted to determine the best possible parameter combinations for the ECM drilling process. The input process parameters considered were voltage, duty cycle, and electrolyte concentration. The performance measures considered are machining rate (MR), overcut (OC), and surface corrosion factor (SCF). CRITIC evaluates the standard deviations as 0.33, 0.29, and 0.29 for MR, OC, and SCF respectively. The weights were calculated as 0.327, 0.238, and 0.435 for MR, OC, and SCF respectively. It was evaluated that voltage at level 3 (9V), duty cycle at level 3 (90%), and electrolyte concentration at level 2 (30gm/l), were the ideal combination for the ECM drilling process. Duty cycle and electrolyte concentration were shown to be the most important parameters influencing quality features based on the ANOVA results. The confirmation results have improved the GRG by 0.1309 from the initial value.
MACHINABILITY STUDIES OF METAL ADDITIVE MANUFACTURED EOS MARAGING STEEL USING ELECTROCHEMICAL MACHINE Academic Journal of Manufacturing Engineering Academic Journal of Manufacturing Engineering, 2025 ABSTRACT: For electrochemical machining (ECM) machinability investigations, metal additive produced EOS maraging steel is taken into consideration. Die casting, tooling, and the aviation sectors all employ this substance. Voltage, electrolyte concentration, duty cycle, and the use of an L16 orthogonal array (OA) employing four levels were among the ECM process factors taken into consideration for optimization in this work. For performance analysis, a multi-criteria decision-making technique called entropy-based multi-objective optimization on the basis of ratio analysis (MOORA) is utilized. A 60% duty cycle, electrolyte concentrations of 45 gms/l, and 14 volts are suggested for the best machining results, according to the study. Based on the mean effect table, the ideal configuration is 14 volts, 40 gms/l of electrolyte concentration, and 60% duty cycle. According to the results of the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), voltage is responsible for about 59.49% of the machining performance. About 7.62% of machining performance is attributed to electrolyte concentration and 12.13% to duty cycle. Every micro machined hole was scanned using a scanning electron microscope (SEM), and the machined hole quality was assessed by taking various resolution photographs.
EFFECT OF ELECTROCHEMICAL MACHINING PROCESS PARAMETERS ON METAL MATRIX COMPOSITES COMPOSED OF SCRAP ALLOY WHEEL MATRIX Academic Journal of Manufacturing Engineering Academic Journal of Manufacturing Engineering, 2025 Electrochemical machining (ECM) is an anodic dissolution process in which cathode is a tool electrode and anode is a workpiece and these two electrodes are bridged by electrolyte. In this research scrap alloy wheel metal matrix composite (SAWMMC) was produced using stir casting setup, the Honda wheel was used as a base metal and 5% alumina (Al2O3) as a reinforcement. Using an ECM setup, the machinability studies on SAWMMC specimen was performed. The various input parameters such as voltage, duty cycle and electrolyte concentration on machining rate, overcut and surface corrosion factor were studied. The range of voltage significant for OC is7 to 8V. The MR increases gradually for 50% duty cycle and significant range of duty cycle is between 60 to 80%. The significant range of duty cycle for lesser OC is 60 to 80% and for lesser SCF is 70 to 90%.Hole surface quality is studied using FESEM images. The significant electrolyte concentration is 20 to 30gm/l for obtaining the higher MR. For electrolyte concentration of 15 to 30gm/l the OC decreases and increases to the maximum value for electrolyte concentration range of 30gm/l to 35gm/l. The significant range of electrolyte concentration for lower SCF is 25gm/l to 35gm/l. The hole analysis shows surface pitting/corrosion along the circumference and it is due to long exposure of stray current
Analysis of vibration signal responses on pre induced tunnel defects in friction stir welding using wavelet transform and empirical mode decomposition J. Rabi, T. Balusamy, R. Raj Jawahar Defence Technology, 2019 Among many condition-monitoring systems in welding operation, Defect identification is an important method to ensure the precision in finishing operation. Friction stir welding is a solid state welding process used to join two metals without the use of electrode at lower temperatures. The aim of this present work is to identify and localize the tunnel defect in aluminum alloy and measure the distance of the defect zone in the time domain of the vibration signal during Friction stir welding. The vibration signals are captured from the experiments and the burst in the vibration signal is focused in the analysis. A signal-processing scheme is proposed to filter the noise and to measure the dimensional parameters of the defect area. The proposed technique consists of discrete wavelet transform (DWT), which is used to decompose the signal. The enveloping technique is applied on the decomposed zero padded signal. The continuous wavelet transform (CWT) has been implemented on detailed signal followed by a time marginal integration (TMI) of the CWT scalogram. Empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is used to replace the detailing coefficients from DWT with Intrinsic Mode Function (IMF). Statistical parameters such as mean, kurtosis, S.D and crest factor have been extracted from the final filtered signal for validating the defect welds from the control defect free welds. Results produced were found to be that kurtosis is 7.4402 for tunnel defect induced weld and 3.3862 for defect free welds. As the increase in kurtosis value predicts the defect zone impact in the signal. The measurement of the defect zone of the cut 1 (voids) and cut 2 (tunnel grooves) in correlation with the processed signal is found to produce a much redundant results with an error rate of 0.02.
Numerical model of natural convective heat transfer within a solar dryer using an indirect double pass collector R. Srinivasan, T. Balusamy, M. Sakthivel International Journal of Ambient Energy, 2018 The double pass collector is one of the most efficient means of drying crops because heating of air takes place from both sides of the absorber plate. To investigate the performance, a double pass natural convection solar dryer was fabricated for experimentation; the results were collected and used to develop a validated numerical model using MATLAB. The experiments were undertaken during February–March 2016 in Salem Tamil Nadu, India over 10 sunshine days. The simulation was carried using the developed model under the measured ambient conditions. The results showed that the mathematical model could predict the performance of the double pass collector for a particular ambient condition to an uncertainty of ±5%. This model could be used to optimise the performance of the collector so that we can predict and investigate the actual performance of the collector with the various optimised designs before fabricating the dryer.
