  • Time series analysis-based models for predicting utilization of electronic resources
    Manash Esh and Saptarshi Ghosh

    Informa UK Limited
Abstract This case study examines the use of electronic resources in academic institutions and the difficulties in forecasting their usage. By employing time series analysis-based models, the study forecasts the utilization of e-resources from 2012 to 2021. It concludes that both Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) and Error, Trend, Seasonal (ETS) models successfully predict electronic resource usage. The study emphasizes the significance of precise predictions for academic institution libraries to manage their collections, allocate resources efficiently, and make informed decisions regarding future acquisitions. The research seeks to forecast the trends of e-resource usage for the next decade based on the decade’s data (2012 to 2021).

  • Role in contribution to open-access repository by the northeast universities in india: A case study of shodhganga
    Manash Esh and Saptarshi Ghosh

Defence Scientific Information and Documentation Centre
Every institution needs repositories for storing, organizing, and presenting digital content, as well as maintaining digital resources for long-term digital access. The authors discussed India’s OpenDOAR status, a quality-assured listing of open-access repositories globally, with a particular emphasis on the Shodhganga repository. The focus of this paper is on universities in Northeast India that deposit Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETDs) in the Shodhganga repository. This study depicts repositories in India since their inception. The Northeastern states are given special treatment by the Central Government and INFLIBNET in the form of Planners (Promotion of Library Automation and Networking in North Eastern Region). The study’s main goals are to disclose the knowledge outcome as well as the knowledge gap that exists in this geographical location. The study helps determine the number of universities in Northeast India that follow the “University Grants Commission (UGC) Minimum Standards & Procedure for Award of M.Phil. / Ph.D. Degree, Regulation, 2009,” which mandated that electronic version of Theses be uploaded to the Shodhganga repository for the benefit of scholars across the country.

INFLIBNET under its e-Shodhsindhu consortium scheme has introduced the users of University of North Bengal with the e-Journal facility. The e-journal facility provided under INFLIBNET has brought another opportunity for university libraries to serve their users with high-quality content. This change needs to be further evaluated to identify the actual usage picture. The paper identifies the trend in the use of e-journal facilities during 2012-2018 with the help of INFISTATS (usage statistics portal for e-Resource). This has determined the period of optimal use of e-journal, which shows the popularity of e-Journals in the university. It identifies the year in which the maximum and minimum use of e-Journals is found, and J-STOR & Science Direct has the maximum use percentage (55 percent). The study also found that seven e-Journals had the highest percentage of use (91 percent) indicating the extensive use of e-journal facilities by the user community of the University of North Bengal.
