Assessment of self-compacting lightweight concrete: Preparation of eco-friendly fiber content on mechanical and durable characteristics K. Chandrasekhar Reddy, Marri Rohini Kumar, B. Vinod Iop Conference Series Earth and Environmental Science, 2024 In recent years, a growing focus has been on creating eco-friendly concrete alternatives, garnering increased attention and support. Using natural fibers in the construction industry will minimize the exploitation of natural raw materials and promote sustainability in the construction industry. This work aims to investigate the influence of palmyra fruit mesocarp fiber (PFMF), Polyolefin fiber (PF), and glass fiber (GF) on the production of self-compacting concrete (SCC). The fiber content was used in three ratios, 1, 1.5, and 2%, as an alternative to fine aggregate. This research was conducted in two phases. In the first phase, a preliminary investigation was carried out to find the maximum adding percentage of fiber content in the successful production of SCC. The mechanical characteristics (compressive, split tensile, and flexural strength) and durability (water absorption, Acid attack, and ultrasonic pulse velocity) were evaluated. The second phase incorporates the fresh characteristics (T500 and slump flow). Adding 1.5%(PFMF/PF/GF) with 10% SF in SCC significantly enhanced the mechanical and durability properties. The compressive, splitting tensile strength, and flexural strength at 28 days increase to 4.30 MPa, 120 MPa, and 4.3 MPa compared to SCC. Scanning electronic microscopic (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis was performed to evaluate the microstructure of concrete samples. Overall, the incorporation of up to 1.5% as a replacement of fine aggregate in manufacturing fiber-blended SCC mixtures can be recommended.
Assessing the utilisation of industrial waste as aggregate and manufactured sand: microstructural and durability characteristics on high-performance concrete Chandrasekhar Reddy Kamasani, Sateesh Reddy Siddamreddy International Journal of Structural Integrity, 2022 PurposeUtilising industrial waste, such as fly ash (FA) and bagasse ash (BA), reduces waste management and increases mechanical strength. Concrete is modified with FA and BA in the cool bonded method of concrete preparation.Design/methodology/approachThe study used to partially replace cement with BA powder at proportions 0, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25% and coarse aggregates are replaced with FA aggregates made with FA and cement using a cold-bonded technique at proportions 0–25%. FA aggregates were made at 10:90, 15:85, 20:80 and 25:75 proportions of cement and FA. The FA aggregates at the best proportion 15:85 was selected as a coarse aggregate by conducting tests like specific gravity, crushing value, impact value and water absorption tests.FindingsThe addition of 30% content decreases porosity by 21% and increases strength significantly at 28 days. Microstructure evolution is carried out to identify material behaviour.Originality/valueMechanical and durable properties such as flexural strength, tensile strength, water absorption test, acid and alkaline tests are conducted on M50 grade concrete after 3–28 days of curing.
Experimental Studies on Durability and Mechanical Characteristics of Concrete using POFA and SCBA hybridization Chandrasekhar Reddy K, Ramya N Australian Journal of Structural Engineering, 2022 The majority of the world’s waste does not go through the recycling process. Moreover, in the suburbs, waste growth and disposal impose a significant risk to the environment. Two distinct waste materials, such as palm oil fuel ash (POFA) and sugar cane bagasse ash (SCBA), are used as basic materials in this research, with weight fractions of 0%, 5.0%, 10.0%, 15.0%, 20.0%, and 25.0%, respectively, to substitute for grade 50 MPa concrete. Mechanical properties such as flexural strength, tensile and compressive strength of hybrid reinforced blended concrete were examined in the primary phase at 28 days of age. The study proposed an alternative mixture for each hybrid fibre combination. The durable properties such as sorptivity, saturated water absorption, acid resistance, and sulphate resistance of quaternary blended concrete with optimum hybrid materials were studied in the secondary phase. From the experimental investigation, mechanical properties are enhanced, and higher compressive and flexural strength are achieved as 64 MPa and 7.93 MPa in addition to 20% POFA and SCBA particles. The durable properties of quaternary blended concrete are enhanced properties due to the addition of hybrid materials.
Experimental and Analytical Study of Silica Particles on Self-Healing Concrete Kamasani Chandrasekhar Reddy, Krishnaiah gari Hemanth Kumar Proceedings of Engineering and Technology Innovation, 2022 This study aims to investigate the properties of green concrete made with ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS), Robo sand (RS), and coconut shell (CS). GGBS is the mineral admixture used to replace cement. Nano-silica particles (NSPs) and CS are used as coarse aggregates, and RS is the fine aggregate used to replace river sand. The workability, mechanical properties, and durability properties of green concrete are investigated and compared with those of conventional concrete (CC). Test results show that the cement replaced with 30% GGBS and 3% NSPs exhibits superior strength. The compressive and splitting tensile strengths are increased by 24.03% and 42.32% after 28 days of curing, respectively. The workability is improved by 12.22% (slump) and 13.25% (compaction factor) after 28 days of curing. The sorptivity of HM3 (3.26%) is lower than that of CC due to the uniform distribution between particles. Microstructure evolution is carried out to identify concrete mix behavior.
