<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Systems for solar desalination provide a practical and environmentally friendly way to turn salty or polluted water into drinkable water. Three configurations are experimentally investigated in this study: a traditional solar desalination system, a system integrated with a thermal energy storage unit (TESU) based on phase change material (PCM), Multi wall Carbon nano Tube were mixed with PCM at 2% of total volume of the PCM and a system that incorporates powdered natural dolomite/MWCNT at 1% each into the PCM-based TESU. Each of the four configurations was created, tested simultaneously, and thoroughly examined. In comparison to the Standard Still (SS), the experimental findings showed that the adoption of PCM-based TESUs increased daily cumulative water output (collection efficiency) by 24%, 26% with addition of MWCNT and the addition of dolomite powder/MWCNT further increased productivity by 27%. The average exergy efficiencies for for SS, SS with PCM, SS with nano enriched PCM, and SS on PCM with MWCNT/dolomite were 1.02%, 1.25%, 1.34% and 1.6%, respectively compared to SS without PCM.</div></div>
  • Exploring the potential of nano-enhanced lemongrass biodiesel blends with hydrogen premixing for improved CI engine behaviour

    Scientific Reports, 2025
Using fossil fuels in compression ignition (CI) engines is still a challenge today due to concerns over environmental pollution and the long-term sustainability of fuel sources. Addressing these difficulties necessitates the development of alternate fuel methods that can boost engine performance while simultaneously lowering emissions. The current study focusses on employing a 20% blend of lemongrass (Cymbopogon Citratus) biodiesel and diesel supplemented with MWCNTs at 40 ppm (also known as “nano fuel of Lemongrass oil”) and investigating the usage of this mixture in an unmodified CI engine. To improve the performance of the nano-fuel, 5LPM hydrogen was premixed through intake manifold. This led to significantly better combustion, thanks to improved mixing inside the cylinder and quicker flame spread. Notably, adding 5 LPM hydrogen to the nano additive biodiesel made from lemongrass biodiesel resulted in a 12.6% boost in brake thermal efficiency. When compared to the LG20 blend operation, these studies revealed a 15.34% reduction in brake-specific fuel consumption (BSFC), a 19.6% decrease in carbon monoxide (CO) pollutants, a 5.35% decrease in unburned hydrocarbon (UHC) pollutants, and an 8.33% reduction in smoke opacity. As a result, we propose further research into hydrogen premixing in conjunction with nano-enhanced Lemongrass biodiesel to increase CI engine performance. It has been noticed that LG20 + MC + H2 fuel increases BTE by 12.6% and reduces BSFC by 15.33% when compared to LG20 fuel. These findings demonstrate the synergistic effect of hydrogen premixing and nanoparticle-enriched biodiesel in increasing CI engine performance and lowering emissions, indicating a possible path towards cleaner and more efficient engine operation.

    SAE Technical Papers, 2025
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">The present study is focused on the integration of phase change materials (PCMs) and Al2O3 nanoparticles into solar stills presents a promising approach to enhance their efficiency. This paper explores the design and performance analysis of a solar still system incorporating PCMs and Al2O3 nanoparticles with different concentration like 200ppm and 400ppm. The primary goal is to investigate the impact of these enhancements on the solar still’s productivity and thermal efficiency. The Aluminium Oxide Nanoparticle were synthesized by chemical co-precipitation method. XRD and TEM were used to characterize the aluminum oxide particles. In this study, Aluminum oxide nanoparticles were employed as thermal conductivity materials, while TN+30 were utilized as a phase change material. After taking about 25 (liters) of water, it was discovered that 1 cm was the ideal depth. Compared to PCM, the energy materials TN+30 and Al2O3 increased collection efficiency with 200 ppm and 400 ppm of 21.65% and 32.97%, respectively.</div></div>

    SAE Technical Papers, 2025
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">The substantial growth of power converters in electric vehicles necessitates more energy consumption and, as a result, greater heat generation. To avoid the power converter’s excessive heat, an innovative curved microchannel with diamond-shaped and pentagonal cross-sections was developed. The flow and heat transfer characteristics of the Gc3N4/Water (0.3%), Al2O3/Water (0.3%), and Al2O3-Gc3N4/Water (0.3%) hybrid nanofluid were assessed. The experimental investigation was carried out by different mass flow rates of about 0.1 to 0.5 LPM under a uniform heat flux of 50 kW/m2. The heat sink had a cross-sectional area of 80×48mm2. In comparison to the diamond channel heat sink through hybrid nanofluids, findings from experiments resulted that the heat transfer rate and pressure drop for the diamond channel enhanced by 14.2% and 18.9%, respectively. In comparison to Gc3N4/Water and Al2O3/Water nanofluids, the hybrid nanofluid improved the heat transfer rate for the diamond micro channel heat sink (MCHS) by 4.9% and 5.8%, respectively. Finally the hybrid MCHS with hybrid no fluid revealed better performance.</div></div>

    SAE Technical Papers, 2023
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">The current study has concentrated on discovering and developing clean alternative energy sources like biodiesel and employing novel methods to reduce harmful emissions and enhance engine performance behavior. The consumption of biodiesel in diesel engines reduces the emissions from the tailpipe, but some researchers claim that it actually produces more NOx pollution than engines that run on regular diesel, which limits the use of biodiesel. In this study, Ricinus communis biodiesel was generated through transesterification process, and its fuel properties were assessed. The employ of biodiesel in diesel engines minimize exhaust emissions; however, multiple investigators claim that the consumption of biodiesel generates greater amounts of nitrogen oxide pollutants than diesel-fueled engines, which limits the possibility of biodiesel usage. In the present investigation, the combined influence of an antioxidant (tert-butyl hydroquinone (TBHQ)) additive introduced to the fuel alteration method and SCR (selective catalytic reduction) as an after-treatment approach on NOx diminution in a Ricinus communis biodiesel -fuelled CI engine was investigated. The antioxidant stabilizer together with the SCR approach substantially decreases the pollutant of NOx by 86%, with a small rise in HC and CO pollutant caused by the addition of antioxidant as additives to Ricinus communis biodiesel and aqueous urea solution introduced at the tailpipe gasses without a significant drop in BTE and BSFC.</div></div>

<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">This study mainly focuses on the blending of Alumina and Titanium oxide nanoparticles (NP’s) in Spirulina biodiesel blends (SB20) to estimate the influence of engine (combustion, performance and emission) parameters of a diesel engine. The characterization of Al2O3 and TiO2 NP’s like SEM were reported. By using various fuel samples such as Diesel, SB20, SB20+40 ppm AO, SB20+80 ppm AO, SB20+40 ppm TO and SB20+80 ppm TO, the engine tests on the diesel engine were conducted at various load conditions. The BTE for SB20+80 ppm AO were enhanced by 12.35% and 8.4 % compared to the SB20 fuel and SB20+40 ppm AO fuel samples. The combustion parameters were improved for the NP’s as additives (Al2O3 and TiO2) fuels than the SB20 fuel sample because NP’s contain oxygen content. The parameters of engine exhaust emissions such as HC, CO and smoke are drastically diminished for the SB20+40 ppm AO, SB20+80 ppm AO, SB20+40 ppm TO and SB20+80 ppm TO fuels compared to the SB20 fuel. A marginal improvement was observed for the NP’s blended fuel samples in case of NOx emissions than the B20 fuel.</div></div>
