Emotional Intelligence Amongst Millennials: Male vs. Female Leaders in the IT and ITES Sectors Pooja, Nitesh Bhatia, Pranab Kumar International Journal of Human Capital and Information Technology Professionals, 2022 The Millennial generation constitutes the majority of the present day workforce. As per the birth year and age group they presently belong to, many Millennial are already in managerial roles and many shall occupy key leadership roles in their respective organizations. Leadership being an emotion laden process requires the millennials to be adaptable so that they can motivate their team members or followers, understand their requirements and reduce their stress levels. Emotional Intelligence plays a crucial role in addressing these workplace issues and correlates positively with leadership. The study is focused on Indian Information Technology (IT) and ITES organizations as it is one of the biggest employers and contributes majorly towards the country’s economy. The present study tries to compare the level of emotional intelligence of millennials across gender, management levels, qualifications and years of experiences. Practical implications related to gender diversity and inclusion of women in leadership roles has also been discussed.
Moderating role of gender between job characteristics and job satisfaction: An empirical study of software industry using structural equation modeling Shruti Traymbak, Pranab Kumar, A.N. Jha International Journal of Human Capital and Information Technology Professionals, 2017 This study examines the moderating role of gender between job characteristics and job satisfaction among Indian software employees which has received less attention in the Indian context. Additionally, it also examines difference in the job characteristics that affect male and female employee's job satisfaction. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and chi-square difference in multi group moderation analysis, used to test the hypothesized relationships. Chi-square difference test showed invariant moderation effect of gender on the relationship between job characteristics and job satisfaction. It has been also found that five job characteristics (skill variety, task significance, task identity, autonomy and feedback) have a significant positive impact on job satisfaction among male employees, whereas in case of female, only two job characteristics task significance and task identity were significant predictors of job satisfaction. Interestingly, task significance and task identity were common significant positive predictors of job satisfaction for both male and female software employees.

Emotional intelligence is increasingly being recognised as an effective measure for identifying and developing potential leaders. The present study examines the relationship between emotional intelligence and leadership and the role of gender as a moderator. The responses of 424 employees across nine industries from the Indian service sector were recorded. The tools used in the study were trait emotional intelligence questionnaire-short form and leadership skills questionnaire. The analysis revealed that there exist a positive and strong correlation between emotional intelligence and leadership. Gender was found to have no significant effect on the relation between emotional intelligence and leadership. Implications of developing emotional intelligence abilities and adhering to diversity management practices have been also discussed.
