Educational media for coastal sustainability: validation of a mangrove planting video linking wave energy dissipation and ecosystem restoration Rita Fitriani, Dios Sarkity, Adam Fernando, Rika Anggraini, Dea Stivani Suherman, et al. Iop Conference Series Earth and Environmental Science, 2025 Coastal sustainability is closely related to the interaction between physical oceanographic processes and ecosystem restoration efforts. The Sebauk Laut coastal area in Tanjungpinang faces abrasion caused by wave energy, and mangroves play a vital role in dissipating this energy while supporting ecosystem restoration. However, students’ knowledge and skills in proper mangrove planting techniques remain limited, reducing their awareness of the link between coastal physics and ecological sustainability. This study aims to validate a demonstration video on mangrove planting as an innovative educational medium that connects the concepts of wave energy dissipation and ecosystem restoration. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Data were collected through material and media validation questionnaires completed by experts. The results indicated a material validity score of 91.67% (very valid) and a media validity score of 97.9% (very valid). These findings confirm that the validated demonstration video is feasible as an educational tool to enhance students’ understanding of proper mangrove planting techniques while promoting awareness of coastal protection and sustainable ecosystem restoration.
Assessing Students' Knowledge, Attitudes, and Environmental Behavior Related to Global Warming and Its Impact on The Marine and Coastal Environment: An Instrument-Making Dios Sarkity, Adam Fernando, Yudi Pratama Bio Web of Conferences, 2024 Global warming has been a serious problem faced by the world for hundreds of years. The main cause is human activity. With the impact of global warming increasingly felt, especially in marine and coastal areas, environmental knowledge, attitudes, and behaviour need to be instilled in humans to overcome this problem. The success of education in instilling these things needs to be measured with a valid instrument. The purpose of this study was to develop an instrument to measure environmental knowledge, attitudes and behaviour related to global warming and its impact on the marine and coastal environment. This study consists of content validity involving 5 validators, then empirical validity testing and reliability testing involving 129 students. The results of the study showed that expert assessments stated that the developed instrument was valid. The results of the empirical validity test and reliability test also stated that the instrument was valid and reliable for use. This shows that the instrument can be used to measure environmental knowledge, attitudes and behaviour related to global warming and its impact on the marine and coastal environment.
Environmental literacy profile of prospective new biology teachers at Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji based on cognitive aspects about climate change Adam Fernando, Dios Sarkity Bio Web of Conferences, 2023 Various environmental problems that arise due to climate change have had a major impact on human survival. Therefore, it is necessary to create environmental awareness, which is the main thing that anyone, including students, needs to have. Students have the potential to increase community environmental literacy. However, this potential needs to be increased and its profile explained, especially for new students. This research describes the environmental literacy profile of new student biology teacher candidates at Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji (UMRAH) in terms of cognitive aspects of climate change. This descriptive research uses essay questions about climate change. These questions were given to all new students of UMRAH Biology Education Study Program class 2022 as samples taken using total sampling techniques. Based on the research results, the environmental literacy profile of prospective new biology teachers at UMRAH in terms of cognitive aspects about climate change is in the sufficient category.
Maritime-Related Topics on Natural Science Learning in Independent Curriculum Dios Sarkity, Adam Fernando Bio Web of Conferences, 2023 As one of the largest maritime countries in the world, education in Indonesia should be implemented by integrating the maritime context in learning. The maritime context can be integrated into science learning. This research was carried out in September 2023. This research aimed to analyze the essential material in science learning in the independent curriculum and analyze the maritime context that can be integrated into this essential material. This was a descriptive analytical research, with data collection techniques using documentation using the Independent Curriculum Document. The data was analyzed descriptively qualitatively by analyzing science learning outcomes to find essential material and then analyzing the maritime context that could be integrated into this essential material. The research results showed that materials related to biology, physics and chemistry had essential material that can be integrated into the maritime context. This shows that science learning in the independent curriculum can be implemented contextually by integrating the maritime context by linking maritime aspects that are often encountered by students in everyday life.
Expert Judgement on Instrument for Measuring Healthy Lifestyle Knowledges and Behaviors of Senior High School Students in Coastal Area of Tanjungpinang Dios Sarkity, Adam Fernando, Yudi Pratama, M. Pemberdi Intasir Bio Web of Conferences, 2023 Healthy lifestyle behavior is the main asset in dealing with various health issues, including for people in the Islands region. Healthy lifestyle behavior implementation must be based on scientific knowledge. An instrument is needed to measure students’ healthy lifestyle behaviour-related science knowldge and students’ lifestyle behavior. This research aims to determine the content validity of the instrument for measuring science knowledge related to healthy living behavior and students’ healthy lifestyle behaviour. This research was quantitative descriptive. The instrument was developed based on 8 main indicators including physical activity, nutritious food consumption, sleep duration, cigarette and alcohol consumption, use of clean water, hand washing habits, use of bathrooms and toilets, and waste disposal culture. The instrument was validated by 8 experts and analyzed using the Aiken Formula (V). The results of this validity test showed that the instrument was valid for aspects of relevance and presentation (V = 0.96), accuracy of language (V = 0.88), and conformity with conceptual and operational definitions (0.94). These results indicate that the instrument can be continued with empirical validity and reliability tests until a valid and reliable instrument is obtained.
Designing and Content Validity of Instrument for Measuring Marine Environmental Care Attitude Through Integrated Science Learning Dios Sarkity, Adam Fernando, Nur Eka Kusuma Hindrasti Bio Web of Conferences, 2023 Marine environmental issues often occur due to human activity. Students as agents of change for the future should make the marine environment better and habitable. It can be realized by internalizing marine environmental care attitude (MECA) through integrated science learning whose study field are closely related to the environment. To find out how far the contribution of integrated science learning in internalizing MECA, an instrument for measuring MECA is needed. This study aimed to determine how to design and how valid the content of the instrument for measuring MECA of junior high school students in Coastal Area. This was a descriptive research. Data were collected by literature review and questionnaires. The data were analyzed qualitatively by presenting instrument that were designed based on a literature review and quantitatively with Aiken’s V formula. The results of the literature review on designing MECA through integrated science learning were four main indicators for measuring MECA, namely marine knowledge, preserving marine environment, preventing marine environment damage, and repairing marine environment damage. The results of the content validity test of instrument assessed by 5 experts showed that instrument for measuring MECA through integrated science learning was valid.
