Journal of Public Health Research, 2025
Background: Stunting is a condition of impaired growth and development that affects children worldwide. It impacts not only physical growth but also cognitive development and learning capacity. This study aimed to identify factors associated with stunting among families with children aged 5 years. Design and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from January to May 2023. Secondary data from the National Population and Family Planning Board. This study involved 2,014,369 children under 5 years old. The endogenous variables were poor housing condition and stunting, while the exogenous ones lacked access to clean water supply, inadequate toilet, maternal age, short birth intervals, high parity, and lower education. The data were analyzed using path analysis with IBM SPSS AMOS 22. Result: The path model showed goodness of fit with CMIN = 0.98, NFI = 0.99, CFI = 1.00, and RMSEA = 0.00. Poor housing conditions had a direct and statistically significant effect on stunting ( b = 0.45; p < 0.001). High parity ( b = −1.46; p = 0.002), no clean water supply ( b = 0.49; p = 0.032), lower education ( b = 0.74; p < 0.001), and short birth interval ( b = 11.90; p < 0.001) exerted an indirect effect on stunting. Conclusions: Poor housing conditions, maternal age, and lower education had a direct effect on stunting. High parity, lack of access to clean water supply, lower education, and short birth intervals had an indirect effect on stunting.

    Pediomaternal Nursing Journal, 2025
Introduction: Cervical cancer screening has consistently proven effective in reducing both the incidence and mortality of cervical cancer. However, in many developing countries, including Indonesia, participation in screening programs remains considerably low. The primary objective of this study was to examine the intention toward cervical cancer screening and the associated factors among reproductive-aged women in Malang city, East Java, Indonesia. Methods: This study employed an observational analytic approach with a cross-sectional design. Researchers conducted the study with 410 participants selected through a simple random sampling technique in Malang. The study focused on cervical cancer screening intention as the dependent variable, while considering attitude, affordability of health services, and health worker support as independent variables. The data collection instrument utilized was a questionnaire comprising various aspects such as attitude, affordability of healthcare services, and health worker support. The researcher-designed questionnaire was guided by the PRECEDE-PROCEED Model. The data were analyzed through multiple linear regression. Results: The results revealed that favorable attitudes (B = .08, SE = .04, P-value = .026), affordable healthcare services (B = 1.06, SE = .19, P-value = < .001), and support from healthcare workers (B = .59, SE = .24, P-value = .013) were associated with an increased intention toward undergoing cervical cancer screening. Conclusion: This study highlights that favorable attitudes, affordable access to healthcare services, and adequate support from health workers are significantly associated with the intention to undergo cervical cancer screening among reproductive-aged women. Keywords: attitude; cervical cancer screening; health worker support; healthcare services; reproductive-aged women

Journal of Public Health and Development, 2024
Roughly, three out of ten toddlers in Indonesia are stunted. Stunted children are spread throughout some provinces in Indonesia, including East Java. In East Java Province, ten cities and regencies exhibit a higher stunting prevalence rate than the national average. This study aimed to determine the factors affecting stunting among families with children under five years old. The study is population-based using census data. The dependent variable is stunting. The independent variables are young maternal age (<20 years old), older maternal age (>35 years old), and frequent pregnancies (> 2 children). The data were collected from the National Population and Family Planning Board which included 6,373,612 families, with children under five years old, from 38 districts/cities around East Java, Indonesia. The data were analysed using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analysis with multiple linear regression. The results showed a relationship between young maternal age (B=11.37; p <0.001; 95% CI= 7.35 to 15.40), old maternal age (B=1.02; p <0.001; 95% CI= 0.84 to 1.20), and frequent pregnancies (B=1.01; p=0.007; 95% CI= 0.30 to 1.73) and the incidence of stunting. Maternal factors significantly contributed to stunting. The research identified young maternal age, old maternal age, and frequent pregnancies as variables that predicted and contributed to stunting. Based on the findings, an intervention can be proposed to stakeholders to arrange stunting prevention programs related to maternal issues.
  • Investigating Covid-19 Vaccine Booster Dose Policy Acceptance among Pregnant Women
Santy Irene Putri, Abd. Rohman, Silfia Angela Norce Halu, Nur Dafiq, Arie Jefry Ka’arayeno, et al.
Texila International Journal of Public Health, 2024
Booster vaccinations have become significant in developing herd immunity due to their ability to reduce mortality rates and the severe dangers of Covid-19. Some people support the government's program and believe that booster vaccines will help prevent Covid-19 during the epidemic. Some people, however, say they do not want booster vaccinations because they believe the first and second doses are adequate and do not want to receive additional doses. The purpose of this study is to investigate the Covid-19 vaccination booster dose policy acceptance among pregnant women. This cross-sectional study was conducted in March to April 2023. Participants were 185 pregnant women selected from several subdistrict in Malang. Instruments for data collection were a demographic questionnaire, an attitude questionnaire, a social media questionnaire, a role of health workers questionnaire, and questions about Covid-19 vaccine booster dose acceptance. Logistic regression analysis was used to assess the effects of the study variables on Covid-19 vaccine booster dose acceptance. In the regression model, the three factors of attitude (b= 0.30; SE=0.07; 95% CI= 0.16 to 0.44), social media (b= 0.47; SE=0.13; 95% CI= 0.22 to 0.73), and role of health workers (b= 0.29; SE=0.15; 95% CI= 0.01 to 0.58) had significant effects on Covid-19 vaccine booster dose acceptance (p< 0.05). Acceptance of the Covid-19 booster vaccines among pregnant women can be accelerated through their positive attitude towards the vaccination program, the proper use of social media, and the involvement of healthcare workers.

Tri Yuniarti, Musta’in, Rita Benya Adriani, Aris Widiyanto, Joko Tri Atmojo, et al.
Asian Journal of Social Health and Behavior, 2024
Introduction: Young adulthood is a critical developmental period, during which there are key developmental tasks that allow the young adult to participate related to lifestyle behaviors. This research examines the interplay among physical activity (PA), sedentary behavior (SB), and body mass index (BMI) among college students in Surakarta, Indonesia. Methods: From January to February 2023, a cross-sectional, online self-administered survey was distributed through WhatsApp and Telegram to prospective respondents aged 17–25 year old. The questionnaire was divided into three sections. The first section of the questionnaire consisted of seven sociodemographic questions about the participants’ age, sex, siblings, parents’ education levels, weight, and height. Eleven questions about respondents’ PA were included in the second section. There were eight questions about participants’ inactive lifestyles in the third section. Results: The respondents had an average age of 20.24 ± 0.21 years. Age (β = 0.041; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.00–0.08; P = 0.03), PA (β = 0.02; 95% CI = 2.03–2.08; P = 0.02), and SBs on weekdays (β = −1.39; 95% CI = −4.77–1.98; P = 0.01) and weekends (β = −2.23; 95% CI = −9.19 [−1.27]; P = 0.01) were identified as the most significant variables influencing the respondents’ BMI. Conclusion: Most college students in Surakarta had a normal weight. Nevertheless, it is noteworthy that nearly all female adolescents fell short of complying with the prescribed physical exercise guidelines, which advocate for a minimum of 420 min of moderate-to-vigorous PA weekly.

Journal of Public Health and Development, 2023
WHO recommends washing hands frequently, staying away from crowds, maintaining a safe distance, wearing masks, applying cough and sneeze ethics, as well as keeping the sick isolated and quarantining those in close contact to prevent Covid-19 transmission. The efforts to prevent the transmission of new cases during the adaptation to the new habits with the implementation of strict health protocols need massive enforcement. It was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted in East Java with 1,564 participants involved by simple random sampling technique. The dependent variable was preventive behavior against Covid-19 transmission. The independent variables included attitudes, knowledge, family support, and health worker support. The data were collected by using a questionnaire and analyzed with multiple linear regression. The study demonstrated that attitudes (B= 0.07, SE= 0.04, p= 0.034), knowledge (B= 0.08, SE= 0.04, p= 0.050), family support (B= 0.12, SE= 0.05, p= 0.012), and health workers support (B= 0.37, SE= 0.03, p<0.001) increase the preventive behavior against Covid-19 transmission. The value of R2 = 0.388, marked that the variables of knowledge, family support, and health worker support simultaneously pose an influence of 38.8% on preventive behavior against Covid-19 transmission. While the remaining 61.2% was influenced by other variables not examined.

Artha Budi Susila Duarsa, Aris Widiyanto, I Putu Dedy Arjita, Joko Tri Atmojo, Ayu Anulus, et al.
Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine, 2022
Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) is a pregnancy condition characterized by prolonged and severe nausea and vomiting of pregnancy, which causes dehydration and weight loss that requires extensive medical care and hospital admission. Studies of hyperemesis were limited in statistical power and generalizability as a result of being facility-based and relatively small in size. This study aimed to investigate the factors associated with HG among pregnant women. It systematically reviews articles published in PubMed, EMBASE, and Science Direct databases. Statistical analysis was carried out by Review Manager 5.3 (RevMan 5.3). Three hundreds and eighteen studies were found in the databases, and 6 of them met the qualifications. The results of this meta-analysis suggested that mothers with female baby (OR= 1.25; 95% CI: 1.20–1.31), with a previous history of HG (OR= 5.38; 95% CI: 1.10–26.36), multiparity (OR = 1.07; 95% CI: 0.94–1.22), with more than 1 fetus (OR= 2.13; 95%CI: 1.95–2.33), and underweight (OR= 1.19; 95%CI: 1.10–1.28) have higher risk to HG compared to those with male baby, without previous history of HG, primipara, single fetus, and normal BMI respectively. In addition, smoking mothers have a lower risk of HG compared to those who have never had a cigarette (OR= 0.69; 95%CI: 0.31–1.54). Finally, it suggested that mothers with female baby, history of previous HG, multiparity, underweight, and multi-baby are risk factors of HG. Meanwhile, smoking is perceived to be protective factors of HG
