THE IMPACT OF SUPPLEMENTING BROILER CHICKENS WITH TRIBULUS TERRESTRIS POWDER ON GENE EXPRESSION OF GROWTH HORMONE AND INSULIN-LIKE GROWTH FACTOR 1 ALI A. MOHAMMED, IBTISAM N. AL-ASSAF, GHASSAN F. MOHAMMED Assiut Veterinary Medical Journal Egypt, 2025 The Tribulus terrestris plant is a key component of industrial medicinal products, because it includes a high concentration of compounds with valuable biological activity. By assessing the Growth Hormone (GH) and Insulin-Like Growth Factor 1 (IGF1) gene expression in broiler chickens, this study aimed to determine the safe dosage of T. terrestris powder that may be added to their diet. The GC-MS data demonstrated the existence of biocompounds with a variety of pharmacological properties. T. terrestris contains six fatty acids: palmitic acid, stearic acid, lauric acid, arachidonic acid, tridecylic acid, pentadecylic acid, stigmasterol, and beta-sitosterol. Following the addition of plant powder to the diet at dosages of 0.5, 1, and 1.5 gm, the GH gene expression using RT-qPCR demonstrated a noticeable rise in activity. ; The highest upregulation value determined was 3.04 folds higher than the control value (0.96) at concentrations of 1.5 gm. Additionally, the data demonstrated that the liver's IGF1 expression was upregulated at 1.5 gm, increasing 1.94 times, compared to the control's (1.06). In conclusion, the study demonstrated that adding T. terrestris to broiler chicken diets raises the expression of the GH and IGF-1 genes. It may therefore contribute to the weight gain of broiler chicks.
Essential oils and fatty acids of Thymus vulgaris seeds: chemical composition, antioxidant and antimicrobial activity Muthanna Mohammed, Ibtisam Al-assaf, Inaam Mohamad, Fawwaz Ali Egyptian Journal of Chemistry, 2023 Medicinal plants are a natural source of many existing medical products, were used widely to enhance food taste and make a fragrance, therapeutic, and preservative additive. The essential oils (E.Os) and fatty acids (F.As) are the origins of various phytochemical substances and are commercially beneficial in food and they are several biological activities including antiviral, antibacterial, anti-parasitic, and anti-inflammatory. So, the Thymus vulgaris L. seeds (Thyme) was investigated to extract E.Os and F.As and was analyzed via mass spectrometry (GC / MS) to determine their chemical composition. The results indicated that the antioxidant properties of extracting were examined using the (DPPH) free radical-scavenging method, ability of the E.Os and F.As ranged from 86.60% to 82.60 % respectively compared to the standard Quercetin (85.32 %). However, antimicrobial activity was represented against Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli and Proteus vulgaris. Suggesting a possible link between such essential oils/fatty acids and the elimination of harmful, or potentially lethal pathogen, at least to some extent.
Protective effect of Urtica dioica in liver and kidney damages induce by ethylene glycol in rabbits: A histopathological study Muataz A. Al-Akash, Haitham A. Rajab, Ibtisam N. Al-Assaf Iraqi Journal of Veterinary Sciences, 2022 Article history: Received February 20, 2021 Accepted May 04, 2021 Available online November 22, 2021 Urtica dioica is used in the many countries as seasoning and as an herbal medicine (antioxidant). In this study, adult male locale rabbit was separated into five groups, group 1 considered as control, group 2 to 5 animals were treated with 0.75% ethylene glycol (EG) in water to induce renal and liver damage till 30 day. The group 3 to 5 animals were feed extract of the plant of U. dioica at a dosage of 100 mg/kg body weight from day 15 to the day 30. The extracts were administered twice daily orally. Liver histopathological changes characterized by vacuolar degeneration and coagulative necrosis of hepatocytes, congestion and dilatation of central vein and sinusoids. Renal histopathological changes characterized by deposition of oxalates, blood vessels congestion infiltration of inflammatory cells and change in renal glomeruli in GE treated groups. While histopathological changes in the animals group treated with U. dioica extract and ethylene glycol showed an increase improvement of the histological features of liver tissue, were limited dilatation of renal tubules with less deposition of oxalates, as well as slight infiltration of inflammatory cells in the interstitial tissue. Finally, as a conclusion we noticed that U. dioica extracts had the ameliorative effect of ethylene glycol-induced hepatic and renal histopathological.
