A Comprehensive Review of Phytochemical Findings, Therapeutic Potential and Toxicological Studies of Stachytarpheta jamaicensis R. Aruna, J. Vinnarasi, Raj A. Anto Arockia, Auxline A. Judy Research Journal of Chemistry and Environment, 2026 Stachytarpheta jamaicensis (L.) Vahl, one of the hidden assets among traditional medicine, is well-known among native people and is being used for decades but its medicinal values are unrecognised and underutilized. The plant is distributed across the tropical Asia, North and South America, Africa, Madagascar, Indonesia, Brazil and other tropical and subtropical regions. The aim is to identify and list out phytoconstituents, therapeutic properties and toxicological findings of Stachytarpheta jamaicensis reported so far. Anti-oxidant, anti-diabetic, anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, anti-nociceptive, wound healing, hypotensive, parasiticidal, anti-dyslipidemic and anti-diarrheal properties of Stachytarpheta jamaicensis have been reported. The extracts of Stachytarpheta jamaicensis do not affect biological profile indicating absence of toxicity of the extracts and compounds obtained from Stachytarpheta jamaicensis. Several compounds including flavonoids, Iridoid glucosides, Lanostane triterpenoids, Sterol glycosides and coumarins were reported. The present review summarises the compounds identified along with chemical and pharmaceutical importance of Stachytarpheta jamaicensis (L.) Vahl.
A Review on the Genus Benkara- Phytochemicals and Pharmacological activities Auxline A. Judy, Raj A. Anto Arockia, J. Vinnarasi, R. Aruna Research Journal of Chemistry and Environment, 2026 The usage of medicinal plants has grown in popularity due to its natural origin and great therapeutic significance. Nowadays, scientific groups are becoming increasingly interested in medicinal plants and herbal preparations because of their dependable pharmacological effects and accessibility to the general public which enable them to effectively treat a wide range of illnesses. The genus Benkara belongs to the family Rubiaceae, which is known to have wide usage in folk medicine like throat infection, abdominal pain, mouth ulcer, pain reliever etc. The several species of this genus were reported to have many secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, triterpenoids, steroids, tannins, flavonoids and saponins. The bioactive constituents found in this genus have high pharmacological activities including antimicrobial, antioxidant, anticonvulsant and anticancer due to the presence of the secondary metabolites. The purpose of this review is to outline the importance of the genus Benkara and the numerous experimental studies conducted on its species and thus may be a viable path to a novel, safe, low-cost, biodegradable and renewable source of natural pharmaceuticals with a high therapeutic index.

Natural potential inhibitors for covid 19 – an insilico approach A. Anto Arockia Raj, Vinnarasi J. Research Journal of Pharmacy and Technology, 2021 In 2019 severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) - associated with coronavirus is a new highly pathogenic human coronaviruses that emerged in china and has quickly spread all over the world. The mortality rate is about 26% globally. This has resulted in an urgent need to identify antiviral drugs that are active against SARS-Covid -19. Several compounds extracted from natural product and herbs exhibit antiviral activity. In the present study, eight compounds from natural products and five antiviral drugs have selected and docked against SARS-CoV-2. Curcuminoid are chief constituent of turmeric, has been used as a food additive and herbal increment due to its potential medicinal behavior. Curcumin has shown better antiviral effect against dengue, hepatitis C, zika and chikungunya viruses earlier. The molecular docking for exploring the binding abilities between naturally obtained known compounds comparable with Oseltamivir, Remdesivir, hydroxychloroquine, Zanamivir and Ribavirin against SARS-CoV-2, whose results may be used to design potential drug to meet out the need of the hour. The results showed that bismethoxycurcumin, demethoxycurcumin and gedunin have comparable high binding pose energies against SARS-CoV-2. We anticipate that these molecules may lead to the design or discovery of new effective actions for SARS-CoV-2.
HPTLC fingerprinting analysis of tannin profile on Canthium coromandelicum and Flueggea leucopyrus willd A. Anto Arockia Raj, J. Vinnarasi, R. Venkataraman, M. Augustin Research Journal of Pharmacy and Technology, 2018 The study of chemical composition of medicinal plants or drugs derived from plants is said to be Phytochemistry. Tannins are polyphenolic compounds; they are identified as better antiseptic due to the presence of phenolic group. The main objective of this study was to progress the High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) fingerprinting of tannin profile on methanolic extracts of leaves and stem of Canthium coromandelicum and Flueggea leucopyrus willd aerial parts. The HPTLC fingerprinting analysis was carried for tannin using CAMAG LINOMAT 5 instrument which revealed that the methanolic extracts of Canthium coromandelicum leaves, stem and aerial parts Flueggea leucopyrus showed the presence of 10, 8 and 7 peaks with Rf values in the range of 0.04 to 0.97 respectively. Thus, the HPTLC methods developed in this study against the methanolic extract of selected plants provide useful and simple tools for the quality assessment and identification of phytochemical marker compounds. By isolating and identifying the biomarker compounds, new drugs can be synthesised to treat various ailments.
