  • Ethical Consumption Trends and Their Impact on Environmental Protection: The Market Analysis in Serbia
Vojislav R. Babic, Siniša Đ. Zarić
Emotional and Experiential Dimensions of Modern Marketing, 2025
This chapter analyses the trend of ethical consumption and its impact on the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions in Serbia. Ethical consumption is an expression of care, responsibility and a sense of duty (Shaw et al., 2016). Consumers have started to pay more and more attention to ethical and environmental impacts when planning their purchases, which has led to an upward trend in ethical consumption. In the study, a questionnaire-based survey was conducted in Serbia. From a methodological point of view, descriptive statistics and PCA followed by SEM were used. The Serbian market for ethical products is underdeveloped. However, the trend of ethical consumption is slightly increasing. SEM was used to confirm the significant influence of two complex factors (MARKETING & RECYCLING and FAIR TRADE) on the decrease of carbon dioxide per capita. The results imply potential benefits for companies, but will also motivate consumers to buy ethical products and services.

  • Is the rule of law essential for economic growth? Evidence from european countries
    Siniša Zarić, Vojislav Babić
    Transition Studies Review, 2021
This paper aims to measure the influence of human capital, rule of law and protection of property rights on GDP. The research has been inspired by the works of Acemoglu. In this study it has been used a self-structured sample containing eight countries: Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Serbia, Italy, the UK, Spain and Sweden. The selection of countries in the sample was intentional. While choosing it, business culture, path dependence and geopolitical situation of the countries have been taken into account. The analysis showed a high correlation of all three observed indices with GDP/cap. In order to determine the relative share of overall indices in economic growth, a graphic representation was used. The regression analysis showed that the change in the IPRI value by one percentage point leads to a more significant positive impact on GDP growth in the group of less developed countries than in the leading developed economies. Although GDP jumps percent are higher in countries with lower IPRI, if observed in real terms they are roughly equal to those recorded in developed countries. This can be explained by the fact that countries with high IPRI have accumulated a higher mass of GDP over time.
  • The impact of knowledge management on wage growth in the construction sector: The case of medium-sized and large companies in the republic of serbia
    Vojislav Babić, Siniša Zarić
    Economic Horizons, 2020
The study measures and analyzes the influence of knowledge management on average wages in Serbian construction companies. For the purpose of this research, of Knowledge Management (KM) dataset with 11 variables was created. The main goal of the research was to examine the influence of the dataset on the average wages in medium-sized and large construction companies. At the basic sample level, through factor analysis, a total of four factor scores were isolated, representing the strategies that the companies combine in KM. Using a regression analysis, it was found that the set of the four independent variables explained 84.5% of the average wage variability in the medium-sized and large construction companies. Two of the four strategies were statistically significant. According to the first strategy, the management insisted on a larger share of experts with the master’s and bachelor degrees, while the second strategy was based on the introduction of the formal, legal protection and registration of innovative solutions, as well as a larger number of employees with a PhD degree.
  • Young entrepreneurs' trust during the recession: Evidence from Serbia
    Vojislav Babic, Sinisa Zaric
    Economic Annals, 2015
This paper deals with the influence of positive trust on business activities, entrepreneurship development, and economic growth. During the global recession, institutions make numerous decisions to find answers to the crisis that influence the behaviour of entrepreneurs. In such situations, significant stocks of trust are of great importance for economy stability and the motivation of future entrepreneurs. In the first section the terms, functions, and types of trust are defined. The second section presents the results of measuring the interpersonal and institutional trust of young entrepreneurs, representatives of future entrepreneurship and business and bearers of networking ideas in Serbia. The results show that young entrepreneurs have a serious trust deficit, which is worrying in people who are potential future business leaders. Only one fifth of the respondents intends to start their own firm when they have finished studying. The reasons most often given are that government economic policy and monopolies hamper starting a business. Most of the respondents thought that the government should be more involved in providing a better environment for medium and small business. Most respondents believed that the Serbian recession was caused foremost by wrong governmental economic policy, followed by corruption.
