  • Educational leadership in the digital era: Bridging global disparities with inclusive management strategies
Dwi Mariyono, Muhammad Yunus, Junaidi Junaidi, Nur Syam, Zobi Mazhabi
Educational Management Administration and Leadership, 2026
This study examines educational leadership in the digital era with a particular focus on how strategic management and artificial intelligence (AI) can be mobilized to reduce global disparities and foster inclusive learning. Drawing on a systematic literature review of 75 peer-reviewed studies identified through Scopus, Web of Science, JSTOR, and IEEE Xplore, the research employs a hybrid thematic content—Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats (SWOT) approach that combines inductive thematic coding with strategic analysis. The findings reveal that digital inequalities remain persistent, disproportionately affecting marginalized learners and institutions with limited resources. Transformative and AI-supported leadership models demonstrate potential to bridge technological and social gaps, yet they also raise ethical, cultural, and contextual challenges that require human oversight. Effective leaders in this environment must integrate technical expertise, cognitive agility, and socioemotional intelligence to ensure that digital transformation supports educational justice rather than deepening divides. The paper contributes theoretically by advancing a hybrid methodological framework for analyzing digital leadership and practically by offering policy recommendations, including the development of global funding mechanisms, public–private partnerships, and ethical governance of AI. While the study is limited by potential regional bias and the static nature of SWOT analysis, it provides a replicable framework for examining how inclusive leadership can navigate the tensions between technological innovation and equity in education.
  • Ethical and psychological implications of generative AI in digital afterlife technologies: A systematic literature review on responsible inclusive innovation
    Mariyono Dwi
    Journal of Responsible Technology, 2025
Rapid advances in generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) have given birth to digital afterlife technologies (DeathTech), which enable the preservation of the voices, memories, and personalities of deceased individuals. This study is a systematic review of 45 scientific articles (2020–2025) using a thematic-SWOT analysis approach and the Responsible Inclusive Innovation (RII) framework, to explore how cultural schemas, inclusive design, and governance models influence the acceptance of DeathTech across cultures. Key findings suggest that ritual adaptation and spiritual meanings are critical to the acceptance of this technology. Jewish and Japanese communities show high acceptance through cultural integration, while Hindu and Luhya communities experience ontological dissonance. Design failures such as linguistic exclusion and ritual incongruence impact marginalized groups. In addition, regulatory gaps exist, especially in post-death privacy protection and algorithmic bias. This study proposes a triadic framework for the development of ethical and equitable DeathTech: cultural mediation, inclusive design, and pluralistic governance. This contribution enriches the study of digital thanatology and provides recommendations for culturally and socially sustainable innovation.
  • Navigating ethical boundaries in death and mourning: A hybrid analysis toward a globally replicable framework
Dwi Mariyono, Abdul Jalil, Fita Mustafida, Moh. Muslim, Zobi Mazhabi
    New Ideas in Psychology, 2025
Background Death and mourning practices are undergoing rapid transformation due to global crises, digital technologies, and increased cultural entanglement. These shifts generate complex ethical challenges that remain underexplored in contemporary research and practice. Objective This study aims to examine the ethical dilemmas and cultural adaptations emerging in death and mourning contexts, and to develop an integrated, globally replicable ethical framework for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers. Methods Using a hybrid qualitative design, we conducted a PRISMA-guided literature review of 44 peer-reviewed studies and semi-structured interviews with 19 interdisciplinary experts in palliative care, anthropology, psychology, and digital ethics. A hybrid thematic content analysis (HTCA) identified six core clusters spanning ritual adaptation, digital mourning, ethical review dilemmas, psychosocial-spiritual grief, crisis disruption, and policy gaps. Results Findings reveal tensions between traditional mourning rituals and institutional constraints; ethical limitations of procedural consent frameworks; the cultural dissonance of AI-based grief technologies; and the absence of integrated training in cultural and spiritual grief competencies. These insights informed the construction of a Global Replicable Ethical Framework for Death and Mourning Studies (GREF-DMS), consisting of five interconnected components for applied use. Conclusion This study contributes a novel framework that bridges ethical theory, digital innovation, and cultural praxis in mourning contexts. It offers practical and scalable pathways to enhance ethical sensitivity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and culturally grounded responses to grief in diverse global settings.

Practical implications The PPBM model offers a scalable and adaptable framework for faith-based or community-rooted institutions seeking to embed ethical entrepreneurship and multicultural values into their education systems. Institutions can replicate this model by: Providing consistent value-based mentoring alongside business training; Designing student-led entrepreneurial units that are ethically evaluated; Promoting cultural exchange and social cohesion in institutional design; Integrating Islamic or local ethical traditions as foundations for business practice. Social implications Islamic boarding schools shape students into socially responsible individuals, contributing to broader societal well-being. By instilling values like integrity and multicultural understanding, institutions like PPBM foster ethical entrepreneurship and social cohesion. This approach promotes positive community impact and creates a more inclusive society. Originality/value This research illuminates the vital role of Islamic boarding schools in shaping students’ character for contemporary challenges. It explores how integrating entrepreneurship education and multicultural values fosters entrepreneurial spirit and cultural awareness. By examining PPBM’s approach, the study reveals insights into holistic student development.
