  • Advances in Hydrogen-Diesel Dual Fuel Engine Technology: A Systematic Review of Emissions and Performance Characteristics
Naseer Salman Kadhim, Salem Mater Adhas, Emad Al-Mahdawi, Tom Milton
Ssrg International Journal of Mechanical Engineering, 2025
To meet the increasing energy needs globally and due to the depletion of fossil fuels, this systematic review aims to examine hydrogen diesel dual-fuel technology as a possible replacement for combustion engines. However, hydrogen is environmentally friendly, highly efficient, and carbon neutral. Still, several unknowns exist regarding the best methods of applying hydrogen in internal combustion engines and the challenges of using hydrogen in practice. This investigation details the energetic performance and emissions of hydrogen-diesel systems at various operating conditions and fills the gaps in knowledge on injection strategies, equivalence ratios, and performance limits. Our methodology involves strict criteria for article selection, clear metrics, and statistical analysis to ensure the robustness of the comparison. Quantitative results show that Brake Thermal Efficiency is improved by 8-15% with hydrogen enrichment at all operating conditions and reaches a maximum of 53.4% at optimal conditions. The optimal hydrogen substitution rate is chosen based on the best tradeoff between the combustion improvement and the volumetric efficiency. The emissions analysis shows that CO (33-48%), CO₂ (25-40%), and HC (78-85%) emissions are decreased dramatically while NOx emissions increase by 6-21% at high loads, which is still an unresolved problem. This study has several novel contributions, including systematic quantification of the effects of hydrogen substitution rates on combustion and resolution of the conflicting trends in NOx emissions by correlating them with specific operational variables. On-demand electrolysis is proposed as a solution to the hydrogen storage problem and an overall assessment of economic feasibility and component durability during the continuous operation of the dual fuel system. The research also considers ethical issues in hydrogen production, focusing on environmental justice, equity, and resource competition. Future research involves advanced control strategies, new NOx mitigation methods, and better electrolyzer designs. This work fills the gap between the theoretical potential of hydrogen and its real application. It provides practical recommendations for improving the efficiency of hydrogen-diesel dual fuel systems and thus reducing carbon emissions in transportation.

    K. S. Al-Obaidy, N. S. Kadhem
Anbar Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2024
The aim of this research is to study the performance of centrifugal pump kind ruvatti (5×6)" using the diesel engine          (DEUTZ), in hot weather conditions located in Iraq. The experiment was conducted at the University of Baghdad, Iraq by using sedimentation tanks during 2023. The characteristics of centrifugal pump were increased pump speed that influenced on the discharge, the time of waterpower, fuel consumption, and exhausted temperature. Three deliveries of delivery head levels were used, which included 2.5, 3., and 3.5 bar besides two speeds which were 1500 and 1700 rmp. The results illustrated that the increased pump speed led to increasing discharge, the time of waterpower, fuel consumption, and exhausted temperature. While the increase in the delivery delivery head led to a decline in discharge, the time of waterpower, fuel consumption, and exhausted temperature. In order to extend the engine life the researchers recommended running the pump in the early morning or late afternoon. The reason behind that related to the cooling system of the engine is air cooling not water cooling

Iop Conference Series Earth and Environmental Science, 2023
An experiment was conducted to study the effect of the sprayer type according to the source of power and the size of the spray nozzle concerning the quality of the spray produced and fuel consumption. Two types of sprayers were used: a conventional boom sprayer (S1) and a modified (electrified) boom sprayer (S2), along with three sizes of the XR TeeJet 110 spray nozzle (N). The following technical performance indicators were examined: Density of coverage (drops/cm2) using ImageJ software, a 600dpi business card scanner, specifically the ScanShell 800N by CSSN, Inc, and water-sensitive paper (WSP), rate of spray nozzles discharge (ml/min), and fuel consumption (liters/hectare) using a calibrated cylinder, and the percentage of weed control by sampling treated and untreated weeds. The experiment was designed as a complete randomized block design in the order of the system (Nested design). Sprayer type had significant effect on spray coverage and nozzle discharge rate. The conventional boom sprayer resulted in a coverage of 169.5 drops/cm2, while the modified (electrified) boom sprayer achieved only 149.4 drops/cm2. The discharge rate was 707.5 ml/min when using the conventional boom sprayer, compared to 671.2 ml/min with lower pesticide consumption when using the modified (electrified) boom sprayer. The smaller-sized XR TeeJet 110.015 VP nozzle (N1) outperformed the other nozzle sizes in terms of coverage (178.7 drops/cm2), weed control percentage (84.56%), and lower pesticide consumption (lower nozzle discharge) of 490.4 ml/min.

Iop Conference Series Earth and Environmental Science, 2023
The performance of a diesel engine was tested with diesel oil contaminated with glycol at the engineering workshop/Department of Agricultural Machines and Equipment / College of the Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Baghdad. To investigate the impact of different concentrations of glycol on the performance of a diesel engine, an experimental water-cooled four-stroke motor was utilized, with oil containing 0, 100, and 200 parts per million (ppm). Specific fuel consumption, thermal efficiency, friction power, and exhaust gas temperature were examined as performance indicators. To compare the significance of the treatments, the study employed a full randomization design (CRD), with three replicates for each treatment at the 5% probability level. Experiment results demonstrated significant variations in the characteristics under study. For example, the highest rates of Brake-specific fuel consumption (kg/KW.h) (0.4459), frictional power (7.8837 kW), and exhaust gas temperature (173.6 0 C) were all observed at oil contamination levels of 200 ppm glycol. Meanwhile, the Brake thermal efficiency was the lowest of any measured system at only 17.5623%. Glycol oil pollution was shown to have a considerable effect on engine performance.
