Mathematical Creative Problem-Solving: Students’ Cognitive Flexibility in Idea Generation and Evaluation Octavina Rizky Utami Putri, Zukhrufurrohmah Zukhrufurrohmah, Mohammad Syaifuddin, Harfin Lanya Mathematics Education Journal, 2026 Learning experiences that rely on procedural memorization are insufficient to support students’ cognitive development in solving non-routine mathematical problems, as such contexts require cognitive flexibility to generate, evaluate, and adapt multiple solution strategies. This study aims to explore students’ cognitive flexibility activities in the phases of idea generation and idea evaluation through mathematical creative problem-solving. Using a multiple case study design, eight junior high school students from two different school contexts (public and private) participated in individual problem-solving and discussion activities. The research was conducted through three stages, namely: define and design, prepare–collect–analyze, and analyze–conclude. Data collected from written problem-solving tasks, video-recorded sessions, and follow-up discussions. Data were analyzed using NVivo 15 software through data condensation, data display, and cross-case conclusion drawing. The findings show that strategic and representational cognitive flexibility occurred in both idea generation and evaluation, with the latter occurring more frequently. These results highlight the importance of emphasizing idea evaluation in mathematics instruction to enhance students’ adaptive thinking and deepen their understanding when facing non-routine problems.
Implementation of authentic assessment on mathematics teaching: Study on junior high school teachers Mohammad Syaifuddin European Journal of Educational Research, 2020
This study aimed at analyzing the implementation of authentic assessments and constraints faced by junior high schools' teachers in mathematics teaching. A qualitative approach was applied in the study. The data on the implementation of authentic assessments and constraints were obtained from 50 mathematics teachers in several public junior high schools in Malang City, East Java Province-Indonesia, trained by the 2013 curriculum. Documentation, questionnaires, observations, and interviews were used to collect the data. The study results showed that most teachers implemented authentic assessments in mathematics teaching as designed in the learning plan. The obstacles faced by the teachers in the implementation of the authentic assessment included the time limit and accuracy. The efforts made by the teachers varied, but the teachers tried to administer the authentic assessment properly following the demands of the curriculum.

The effect of students' perception on classroom assessment to students' attitudes M Syaifuddin Journal of Physics Conference Series, 2019 The objectives of this research were to analyze the students’ perceptions on classroom assessments, the differences in the students’ perceptions on classroom assessment based on gender and lecturers, and the effect of students’ perceptions on classroom assessment to their attitudes. The subjects were UMM students who attended Descriptive Statistics course. The data were collected using a Students’ Perception of Assessment Questionnaire (SPAQ) and attitudes questionnaire. The SPAQ and attitude questionnaire were reliable. Mixed method used in this study. Descriptive method was used to analyze students’ perception on the classroom assessment. The independent sample t-test was used to test the differences in students’ perceptions on classroom assessments by gender and lecturers. The linear regression analysis was used to examine the effects of students’ perceptions on classroom assessment to their attitudes. The results of this study showed that the students’ perceptions on classroom assessment were positive for all aspects, except for the students’ perceptions on their ability to prepare for the test on assignments and feedback. There were no difference perceptions of the students on classroom assessments based on gender and the lecturers to all aspects of classroom assessments and the students’ perceptions on classroom assessment influenced the students’ attitudes.
