The wire rod has high relevance due to its wide application as a raw material for steel wire and wire processed in cold rolling mills and drawing. The control of process variables, such as cooling rate, coiling temperature, rolling speed is essential for obtaining the microstructures and therefore mechanical properties of the material. The purpose of this work is to study the behavior of the microstructure and mechanical properties with the variation of thermomechanical treatment in the hot rolling of wire rod. The steels used in this study were the microalloyed niobium steel equivalent to ASTM A913 grade 50 and carbon steel equivalent to ASTM A510 grade 1013. Despite the carbon steel has higher equivalent carbon to microalloyed steel, was found higher yield strength (σe) in the microalloyed niobium steel. Thus, by applying appropriate thermomechanical treatment in microalloyed steel is possible to improve mechanical properties mainly due to grain refining.

The growing focus on the efficiency of the reduction process in blast furnace generates an alteration in the way they operate. This modifies the conditions of transfer of silicon for the hot metal and can cause problems in the added value of your product. To evaluate the changes of the operational parameters of the reduction on the conditions of transfer of silicon process a mathematical model based on artificial neural networks has been implemented. Through this model it was possible to predict the silicon content to determine the influence of each operational parameter. Artificial neural networks were able to predict the silicon content through parameters of the reduction in blast furnace process, and this was verified by the precision of this model. The ANN showed that Theoretical flame temperature, Pressure blow and Coke rate have a positive influence on the silicon content in hot metal, and the Hot metal rate is inversely proportional to the silicon content of the hot metal.

The reinforcing wire production CA-60 is highly relevant due to its wide application in concrete products (welded wire mesh and truss girder), driven by growing demand for products of the construction area. One of the properties required by ABNT / NBR 7480/07 is the yield stress (σe), which has a direct effect on the maximum load that the structural component may be subjected in service. The addition of steel wire temperature during cold rolling increases the σe and reduces the ductility due to the aging phenomenon. These variations occur due to the formation of solute atoms atmosphere around the dislocations. The purpose of this paper is to study the behavior of σe during heat treatment of static aging at 100 °C in the wire CA-60 steel made from the niobium microalloyed steel equivalent ASTM A913 and the equivalent ASTM 1013 steel. As a result the wire carbon steel 1013 showed the same variation of σe during static aging of niobium microalloyed steel A913. This phenomenon was justified because of the increased level of pro-eutectoid ferrite and grain size in the carbon steel 1013.
