Plant-Assisted Synthesis of ZrO2 Nanoparticles Using Cycas revoluta Extract for Doxycycline Removal from Aqueous Solutions Dishant Sharma, Ruchi Bharti, Priya Kaushik, Renu Sharma, Manas Sutradhar Applied Sciences Switzerland, 2026 Zirconium oxide nanoparticles (ZrO2 NPs) were synthesized via a plant-assisted route using Cycas revoluta leaf extract as a natural reducing and stabilizing agent. The synthesis and properties of the NPs were confirmed using UV–Vis, FTIR, XRD, SEM-EDS, HR-TEM/SAED, DLS, and zeta potential measurements. The adsorption performance of ZrO2 NPs toward doxycycline from water was investigated by varying pH, adsorbent dose, initial concentration, temperature, and contact time. Under the optimum conditions (pH 7, 50 mg adsorbent in 50 mL, 10 mg L−1 doxycycline, 60 °C, 180 min), a maximum removal efficiency of 60.81% was achieved. The equilibrium data were fitted using the Langmuir model, giving an estimated qmax of 11.276 mg g−1; however, this value should be interpreted cautiously because of the limited number of isotherm data points. The time-dependent adsorption data were empirically described using both pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models without assigning strict superiority to either model. These results indicate that green-synthesized ZrO2 NPs can serve as a low-impact adsorbent for removal of pharmaceutical contaminants in water.
Green Synthesis of ZrO2 Nanoparticles from Cynodon dactylon: Structural Characterization, Antioxidant Performance, and Corrosion Inhibition of Mild Steel Shobhit Sharma, Ruchi Bharti, Renu Sharma Chempluschem, 2026 Zirconia (ZrO 2 ) nanoparticles (NPs) were biosynthesized using Cynodon dactylon leaf extract via an environmentally benign route and evaluated for antioxidant activity and corrosion protection of mild steel in acidic media. X‐ray diffraction confirmed nanocrystalline tetragonal ZrO 2 , while Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy evidenced phytochemical functionalities that cap and stabilize the particle surface. Scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscopy revealed agglomerated morphologies composed of nanoscale primary particles; consistent with this, dynamic light scattering showed micrometer‐scale hydrodynamic diameters arising from aqueous aggregation. NP formation and aggregation were strongly governed by alkaline pH, reaction time, temperature, and extract concentration, which collectively modulate nucleation, growth, and surface stabilization. Electrochemical and gravimetric assessments (potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and weight loss) demonstrated dose‐dependent inhibition, achieving a maximum protection efficiency of 82.5%. EIS responses showed enlarged Nyquist semicircles and increased charge transfer resistance, indicating development of a compact barrier layer on steel. Weight‐loss measurements yielded inhibition efficiencies of ∼23.5% after 24 h and ∼64.7% after 48 h. Antioxidant performance of C. dactylon extracts was quantified using 2,2‐diphenyl‐1‐picrylhydrazyl and 2,2′‐azinobis(3‐ethylbenzothiazoline‐6‐sulfonic acid) (ABTS) assays, with methanolic extracts exhibiting the highest radical‐scavenging activity. Collectively, these results establish C. dactylon‐ derived ZrO 2 as multifunctional nanoadditives with coupled antioxidant and mixed‐type anticorrosive behavior supported by adsorption‐based mechanistic interpretation. This integrated study connects synthesis optimization to corrosion and antioxidant performance.
Green Aeonium Arboreum-Synthesis of Nickel Nanoparticles for Efficient Removal of Paracetamol From Water Komal Gupta, Ruchi Bharti, Renu Sharma, Priya Kaushik, Monika Verma, et al. Chemistry an Asian Journal, 2026 This study offers a green methodology for synthesis of nickel nanoparticles (Ni NPs) employing Aeonium Arboreum ( A. arboreum ) extract and the removal of paracetamol from aqueous solution. This methodology was optimized by varying key parameters, achieving 0.5 M nickel chloride, a 1:4 extract‐to‐metal ratio, pH 12, 48 h reaction time, and 40°C as the optimal condition for stable Ni NPs. The stability and properties of the nanoparticles are confirmed by employing different characterization instruments including UV–vis spectrophotometry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope‐energy dispersive x‐ray, dynamic light scattering analysis x‐ray diffraction, and zeta potential. The synthesized Ni NPs demonstrated significant potential for paracetamol removal, achieving highest removal of 53.5%, corresponding to an adsorption capacity ( q e ) of 8.56 mg g − 1 , from aqueous solutions under optimized conditions (75 mg Ni NPs, 40 ppm paracetamol, pH 12, and 90 min contact time). The adsorption behavior indicated strong interactions among Ni NPs and paracetamol, enhancing their potential in water treatment applications. This methodology demonstrates the applications of green synthesized Ni NPs for sustainable environmental remediation aligned with the sustainable development goals.
Green synthesis of biofunctionalized iron oxide nanoparticles using lagerstroemia indica: structural characterization, antioxidant potential, and corrosion inhibition efficiency Divya Kundu, Ruchi Bharti, Uma Koul, Ajay Thakur, Monika Verma, et al. Nano Express, 2026 This study reports a green, one-pot synthesis of biofunctionalized iron-oxide nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 / γ -Fe 2 O 3 ) using Lagerstroemia indica leaf extract as a combined reducing/capping system. X-ray diffraction confirms mixed magnetite/maghemite phases, while UV–Vis and FTIR support phytochemical surface passivation. SEM-EDX shows agglomerated nanoscale domains enriched in Fe and O; DLS and ζ-potential indicate colloidal stabilization by plant-derived polyphenols. Antioxidant activity quantified by DPPH, ABTS, and total antioxidant capacity increases with dose, achieving up to 92.9% DPPH scavenging at 200 μg ml −1 . Potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in 0.5 M HCl demonstrate mixed-type inhibition with maximum efficiency of ∼75% at 200 mg l −1 , attributed to synergistic adsorption of phytochemical shells and mixed-valence Fe centers that impede charge transfer. The aqueous, additive-lean process furnishes multifunctional nanomaterials with practical antioxidant and corrosion-protection performance.
