International Journal of Recent Technology and Engineering, 2019 The promising approach to enhance energy efficiency (EE) in LTE-A network is to switch underutilized evolved node B (eNB) to sleep mode, but it increases the transmission power to guarantee the coverage under the remaining active eNBs. The increase in transmission power can be reduced by coordinated multi-point (CoMP) technique through eNB cooperation, but this technique consumes extra power due to backhaul traffic and signal processing. This problem can be solved by the proposed energy efficient acceleration factor failure rate (EEAFR) algorithm. The algorithm jointly considers the eNB cooperation and DTX mechanism to minimize the backhaul traffic with less failure rate. Also, to enhance energy efficiency, the proposed algorithm efficiently utilizes the cooperation in all traffic load scenarios based on the decision criteria and DTX mechanism. The results are compared with the existing AFEE and Green CoMP with Backhaul Traffic algorithm. In all the traffic loads EEAFR save 59.8% energy and reduces the network outage which depends on the failure rate of the eNB components

Nithyanandan Concurrency and Computation Practice and Experience, 2019 SummarySmall cell networks provide optimistic and realistic way to meet the growth of increasing demand for higher rates of services in wireless networks. Energy efficiency (EE) is a high‐priority design parameter in a long‐term evolution‐advanced (LTE‐A) network. Generally, LTE‐A base stations are referred to as evolved Node B (eNB). To improve EE with small cell deployment, one way is to switch off some of the eNB components while the difficulty is to control the failure rate activated by fatigue processes of eNB subjected to Discontinuous Transmission mode (DTX). Specifically, if the time spent in DTX modes increases, then the failure rate of eNB decreases. Despite the variation of power states turned to enlarge the failure rate of eNB. The objective is to deal the difficulty of reducing the LTE‐A eNB failure rate subject to DTX mode and the new algorithm named AFEE (Acceleration Factor and Energy efficiency) is proposed and energy analysis is performed and numerical results are given. Specifically, the proposed algorithm is strong enough to attain power saving nearly of 55%.

Nithyanandan Procedia Computer Science, 2018 The efficient way to save the energy in a cellular network is to turn off a base station (BS) in a low load period. Without sacrificing the user traffic demand, most of the work aimed at when to turn off a base station and to enlarge the coverage areas to cover more users. According to this, the transmission power and constant power are the primary sources of energy consumption in each base station. Based on this, the primary objective of the work is to reduce the transmission power of the enlarged cells by cooperating more BS which mainly increases the network throughput in a Long term evolution – Advanced (LTE-A) network with the peak data rate of 1 Gbps. However, dealing with backhaul traffic is an efficient way to improve energy efficiency in LTE-A network. Hence, this paper addresses the backhaul traffic with cooperating eNBs. Finally, the simulation results are compared with the Light CoMP, Heavy CoMP and Green CoMP with and without Backhaul traffic algorithm.
