The present work explores the grain growth mechanism and optimization of physical properties of CdS films by environment-friendly MgCl2 activation. The CdS films are thermally evaporated and treated with saturated solution of MgCl2 compound, followed by thermal annealing at 100°C, 200°C, and 300°C temperatures. A structural study reveals the polycrystalline nature of CdS films having diffraction peaks corresponding to cubic and hexagonal phases with preferential orientation along (220)C plane. The estimated crystallite size of CdS films is found in the 13–45 nm range with MgCl2 activation, and an indication of phase conversion from (220)C to (002)H orientation is observed at 300°C. Transverse current–voltage characteristics validate Ohmic behavior where electrical conductivity is fluctuated with MgCl2 activation. The Tauc’s plots yielded optical energy band-gap for prepared CdS films in 1.82–2.35 eV range, and the extinction coefficient and transmittance of CdS films fluctuated with activation temperature. A broad PL emission peak appears in spectral range of ∼660–710 nm, corresponding to photon energy range of ∼1.74–1.87 eV. The PL intensity of the broad emission is boosted with activation up to 200 °C. Surface topographical micrographs indicate hill- and valley-like structures, and surface roughness is observed in 2.18–29.41 nm range with MgCl2 activation temperature.
  • Unveiling the Performance Analysis of Novel Ca3Sbi3 Absorber Based Perovskite Solar Cells Through SCAPS-1D Numerical Simulation

Journal of Physics Conference Series, 2025
In quest of highly stable, efficient and environmental benign perovskite solar cells, the Lead free, inorganic novel perovskite materials are being investigated to cater these requirements. Near optimal band gap, higher mechanical stability and appropriate structural properties of Ca 3 SbI 3 perovskite inspire the researchers to unveil its complete photovoltaic potential by means of theoretical and experimental aspects. The present work explores the SCAPS-1D guided performance optimization of novel Ca 3 SbI 3 perovskite solar cells via absorber layer engineering. Simulated devices encompass 100 nm thin WS 2 layer as electron transport material whereas CZTS having thickness of 100 nm is applied as hole transport material. Photovoltaic performance of designed ‘ITO/WS 2 /Ca 3 SbI 3 /CZTS/Au’ devices is theoretically analysed by varying the Ca 3 SbI 3 layer’s thickness in span of 0.4-2.4 µm, defect density in range of 1×10 12 1×10 16 cm -3 and doping concentration in 1×10 13 -1×10 17 cm -3 range. The short circuit current density of simulated devices is enhanced from 25.16 mA/cm 2 to 29.22 mA/cm 2 and efficiency is augmented from 14.81% to 18.65% when thickness of Ca 3 SbI 3 layer is systematically enlarged from 0.4 µm to 2.4 µm. introduction of defects in Ca 3 SbI 3 layer leads to deteriorate the performance of simulated devices as open circuit voltage and fill factors are dropped from 775.29 mV to 753.71 mV and from 82.31% to 67.05% respectively when defect density of Ca 3 SbI 3 layer is raised from 1×10 12 to 1×10 16 cm -3 . The efficiency of modeled devices is maximized to 24.91% by introducing higher dopant density of 1×10 17 cm -3 in corresponding Ca 3 SbI 3 perovskite absorber layer. Present theoretical outcomes offer the blueprints to researchers for fabricating highly stable and efficient perovskite solar cells at reduced costs.

Early disease diagnosis and management are crucial aspects of healthcare and research. Biomarker recognition is one of the vital techniques that efficiently provides real-time and precise biological information for early diagnosis. Biomarkers are used as crucial biological indicators in medical exploration and treatment. The examination of biomarkers has evolved into a promising non-invasive means for safe, informal and pain-free monitoring, with the potential to amend the current methods of medical analysis and management. Rapid progress in sensor technology, has led to the development of high-performance sensors for human health monitoring. Since as early as 1867, molecular sensors have been renowned as intelligent devices capable of addressing various issues associated with our environment and health. In the human healthcare system, sensors are garnering interest owing to their high potential to provide incessant and immediate physiological and chemical information, as well as non-invasive measurements of biomarkers in human bio-fluids such as saliva, tears, sweat, interstitial fluid, and human volatiles. In this chapter, we have concisely described numerous types of biosensing units and their operation as well as the role of biosensors in detecting various types of biomarkers in humans.

In this study, an impact of halide ion size on the physical properties of 200 nm thin thermally evaporated CdS films is explored. The ex-situ halide treatment is performed using 0.2 M solutions of halide compounds viz. CdCl 2 , CdI 2 , MgF 2 , MgCl 2 and MgI 2 separately and subsequently air annealing at 200 °C. A detailed grain growth mechanism in CdS films based upon nature and size of cations and anions to the treatment species is deeply discussed. The recrystallization responsible for modulation in structural, optical, topographical, photoluminescence , electrical, morphological and compositional properties of CdS films is explored via formation of different complexes. The XRD patterns reveal formation of polycrystalline CdS thin films having mixture of cubic (with space group F 4 ̅ 3 m) and hexagonal phases with (220) cubic preferential orientation. Different crystallographic constants are calculated and discussed where the crystallite size is varied from 34 nm to 48 nm with treatment. Surface topographical study indicates that surface roughness is altered with the halide treatment and observed maximum for MgCl 2 treated CdS thin films. The pristine and halide treated CdS thin films show Ohmic nature owing to linear current-voltage behavior. Optical study demonstrates that MgI 2 treated films have higher transmittance and lower absorbance and energy band gap is measured out in 2.04–2.48 eV range. PL spectra of CdS films reveal a strong red emission band appeared at ∼685 nm corresponding to Sulfur vacancies (V S ) and possible A centers ( X S + V Cd 2 − ) − . FESEM exploration reveals grain growth with probable activation where maximum grain size is obtained for MgF 2 treated films. The EDS patterns confirm deposition of CdS films and also integration of F, Cl, I and Mg in the associated treated CdS films. The investigated findings reveal that size of halide ions plays a decisive role in modification of the physical properties of CdS thin films which could be implicated as optical window to CdTe and CIGS based photovoltaic devices .
