Experimental Study of Thermal Analysis and Friction Properties of Double Pipe Heat Exchangers for Different Spaces Between Spiral Grooves Putu Wijaya Sunu, I Dewa Made Cipta Santosa, Asrori Asrori, Si Putu Gede Gunawan Tista, Cornelius Bambang Dwi Kuncoro Journal of Advanced Research in Fluid Mechanics and Thermal Sciences, 2025 The aims of the experiment investigate the thermal performance and the friction properties of double-pipe heat exchangers scratched by spiral grooves with various different spaces between grooves. These experiments involved the use of an aluminum pipe with outer diameter of 19.8 mm and an acrylic shell pipe with inner diameter of 27.5 mm. The depth and width of these grooves remained constant at about 0.5 mm, and 1 mm respectively. The distance between spiral groove was determined of 6, 8, 10, and 12 mm. With water as working fluid and the cold fluid Reynolds number ranging from approximately 32600 up to 44600, it was observed that grooved pipes had higher friction factors than smooth pipes. The friction factor decreases with the space between grooves increases and vice versa. Heat transfer rates in grooved pipes were 1.2–1.8 times higher than in smooth pipes. The performance of heat transfer increase with decreasing the space between grooves. The Number of Transfer Units (NTU) and effectiveness also have a good correlation with increase the Reynold number, on the other hand, a decrease of spiral groove spacing. Nusselt numbers for spiral grooved pipes were higher than for smooth pipes. These are corresponding improvements over the smooth pipe strength by 3.3% for the 6 mm groove spacing. The enhancement in Nusselt number decreased with increasing distance between grooves. This study provides insights into optimizing the spiral groove spacing in double pipe heat exchangers to enhance the performance of heat transfer with pressure drop penalty.
Performance analysis of solar electric scooters with different charger controllers Asrori Asrori, Sugeng Hadi Susilo, Satworo Adiwidodo, Elka Faizal, Mira Esculenta Martawati, Moh. Hartono International Journal of Advances in Applied Sciences, 2024 This study investigates the impact of solar charge controller (SCC) type on battery charging in solar-powered electric scooters (e-scooters). The research compared maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and pulse width modulation (PWM) controllers by monitoring average output power, current, and voltage every 10 minutes. Results showed that under stationary conditions, MPPT controllers delivered higher efficiency, generating 5.87 W of power compared to PWM's 5.05 W. This advantage persisted even during scooter operation, with MPPT controllers producing 4.91 W versus PWM's 4.31 W. Overall, the findings demonstrate that MPPT SCCs offer a more efficient solution for charging e-scooter batteries.
The Potential of Steam Generating by The PMMA Fresnel Lens Concentrator for Indoor Solar Cooker Application Asrori Asrori, Pondi Udianto, Elka Faizal, Muhammad Akhlis Rizza, Kris Witono, Dony Perdana Periodica Polytechnica Mechanical Engineering, 2024 Solar power is an alternative energy source that can be used for cooking. It is a simple, secure, and useful way to cook food without using conventional fuels that pollute the air. Solar cookers offer various benefits to the user’s health, productivity, and income as well as to the environment. Solar energy is abundant in a tropical country like Indonesia, making it a dependable and sustainable of energy resource. The study’s goal is to analyze the potency of steam produced by a solar cooker that uses a Fresnel lens concentrator. The thermal performance of the Fresnel lens concentrator with a conical receiver on the solar cooker prototype is discussed in this research. In the construction of solar cookers, PMMA (Polymethyl-Methacrylate) Fresnel lenses, manual trackers, and conical receiver types are used. The research conducts an experimental analysis of the thermal performance of the prototype solar cooker using a Fresnel lens concentrator with a conical receiver. This empirical approach provides valuable data on the efficiency and effectiveness of the solar cooker design. The experiment result shows the cumulative average solar irradiation, the average collection of solar energy per time of Fresnel lens concentrator, and the heat utilized of steam from conical receiver are 709.09 W/m², 456.14 Watt, and 383.88 Watt, respectively. The results of this study suggest that Fresnel lens concentrators are a promising development for indoor solar cookers and therefore provide a pathway for increased utilization of solar cooking technology.
DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF HYBRID SOLAR E-BIKE FOR SUSTAINABLE GREEN TRANSPORTATION Asrori Asrori, Yuniarto Winoko, Subagiyo Subagiyo, Pondi Udianto, Irwan Eryk Journal of Applied Engineering Science, 2023 Solar energy has great potential for utilization as an unlimited and alternative renewable energy source that can be stored in batteries and used to drive the BLDC motor on electric bicycles. The purpose of this study was to determine the charging efficiency of a 100 Wp solar panel mounted on an electric bicycle. A solar power meter was used to measure the solar radiation absorbed by the photovoltaic (PV) module, while sensors were used to measure the current and voltage (DC) output from the solar panels. The sensor signals were then processed by a micro controller and displayed on an LCD screen, as well as recorded by an SD card data logger. The characteristics of the charging voltage were compared with and without the PV module. The results showed that at a solar radiation of 1008 W/m², the maximum voltage and current achieved were 17.49 V and 3.37 A, respectively. Under these conditions, the battery charging efficiency of a 100 Wp solar panel was 58.94%. A one-hour test with an average solar radiation of 976.3 W/m² showed that integrating a 100 Wp PV module increased the energy stored in the e-bike battery by 33.33%. Therefore, the hybrid solar e-bike concept has the potential to improve the performance of electric vehicles in the future.
THE DEVELOPMENT OF FRESNEL LENS CONCENTRATORS FOR SOLAR WATER HEATERS: A CASE STUDY IN TROPICAL CLIMATES Asrori Asrori, Sugeng Hadi Susilo Eureka Physics and Engineering, 2022 This paper discusses the application of Fresnel Lens Concentrator for Solar Water Heater which is a case study in Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to find an empirical equation of the relationship between Direct Normal Irradiance (Ib) and focal point temperature (Tf). The research location is Latitude: 7.9553 °S and Longitude: 112.6145°E. The SM-206 solar power meteris used.The Fresnel lenses are made of PMMA material. Its specifications are: diameter=1000 mm; weight=2 kg; thickness=2 mm; groove pitch=0.5 mm and focal length=880 mm.The main experimental setup consists of a PMMA Fresnel lens and a receiver. The conical cavity receiver has specifications; geometric concentration ratio,CRg=8, and V=2 Liters. Temperature measurement is done using a temperature data acquisition system. The K-type thermocouple is used to measure:
 1) ambienttemperature (Ta);
 2) the focal point temperature (Tf);
 3) receiverwall temperature (Tr);
 4) watertemperature (Tw).
 The experiment obtained the results of the empirical equation for the relationship between Direct Normal Irradiance (Ib) and focal point temperature (Tf). The increase in solar radiation produces a focus temperature, exponentially. At DNI 858 W/m2 it can produce a focal temperature of up to 1064 °C. The efficiency of the receiving cavity of the thermal cone which contains 2 litres of water and CRg=8 under conditions of relatively Direct Normal Irradiance ( =675 W/m²) is about 10.61 %. Furthermore, the energy that can be generated in heating water is 0.17–0.32 MJ, in 100 minutes. Heat convection and radiation loss can be reduced by adding an insulating layer to the walls and coating the surface with black

CORROSION PREVENTION ON S45C USING HARDENING METHOD , Muhammad Akhlis Rizza, Ratna Monasari, , Zakki Fuadi Emzain, , Asrori Asrori, , Ilham Krissetyawan Nusantara, and International Journal of Modern Manufacturing Technologies, 2022 This study aims to determine the effect of holding time and oil viscosity on the S45C steel hardening process on the corrosion rate. The corrosion rate is measured using the weight loss method. Micro-photo observations of the S45C steel surface were carried out to determine the type of corrosion. The results demonstrate that the corrosion rate of hardened S45C steel decreases following the longer holding time during hardening. In addition, the corrosion rate of hardened S45C steel decreases when the viscosity of the oil used during hardening is thicker. Finally, the type of corrosion is uniform and pitting corrosion.
Analysis of position and rotation direction of double stirrer on chaotic advection behavior Sugeng Hadi Susilo, Asrori Asrori Eureka Physics and Engineering, 2021 Turbulent mixing can damage the material molecules because of turbulence. Whereas laminar mixing raises a problem when mixing is carried out on viscous liquids. The mixing mechanism using chaotic flow affects the mixing quality. The aim of the experiment was to determine the position and direction of the double stirrer chaotic mixer. The installation of a chaotic mixer uses a cylindrical tub and two different mixers consisting of a primary mixer (Pp) and a secondary mixer (Ps). Periodically rotate the container and stirrer. The center of the vessel and primary mixer are placed at the same coordinates. For ε=4 cm (Pp to Ps distance), there are three experiments, namely: vessel rotation and directional stirrer (P2S-a), vessel rotation and opposite stirrer (P2B-a), and vessel rotation, both primary and secondary stirrers are directional variations. (P2V-a). Eccentricity 7 cm, there are also three treatments as above: one direction (P2S-b), reverse direction (P2B-b), and variation of direction (P2V-b).
 The video camera recordings are processed digitally. Qualitative data show a pattern of behavior during mixing. Meanwhile, quantitative data is used to determine the level of mixing effectiveness. The results showed that the direction of rotation of the two cylinders had no effect on the effectiveness of chaotic mixing. Based on the number of initial droplets of dye, the treatment that experienced the fastest chaos was P2B-b, at n=2 and r=3.5303. The difference in the number of color droplets does not affect chaotic behavior. The highest mixing efficiency was generated by the lowest P2V-b mixing index value of 0.94. Simultaneously, the direction between the mixer and the container will provide maximum mixing efficiency. Isolated mixing areas (island) and areas of poor mixing occur because of one-way rotation and low eccentricity
