A Deep Learning Approach for Anomaly Detection for Industrial Control Systems Damián Martínez Giracca, Fabio López Pires, Benjamín Barán, Eustaquio Alcides Martínez Jara Proceedings 2024 50th Latin American Computing Conference Clei 2024, 2024 Anomaly Detection in Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) like Industrial Control Systems (ICS) presents research opportunities in different industries considering intelligent systems, mainly for Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS). This work surveys the specialized literature focusing on main published testbeds, datasets and methodologies for Anomaly Detection based on industrial process measurement data to develop and evaluate the performance of IDS applied for ICS. In this context, this work proposes a novel Deep Learning approach for an IDS based on a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) Neural Network. An experimental evaluation of obtained results for the HIL-based Augmented ICS (HAI) testbed demonstrate that the proposed LSTM-based IDS outperforms state-of-the-art alternative IDS based on other algorithms such as K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Decision Tree Classifier (DTC) and Random Forest (RF), considering performance metrics such as Accuracy (0.9996), Precision (0.9978), F1-Score (0.9978) and Recall (0.9978).
Consistency in Positive Reciprocal Matrices: An Improvement in Measurement Methods Jose Ignacio Pelaez, Eustaquio A. Martinez, Luis G. Vargas IEEE Access, 2018 Consistency estimation of decision-makers’ judgments in decision-making processes is fundamental to generating agreements and making decisions. Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is a widely used method to solve this type of problem, enabling evaluation of the consistency of judgments emitted by the decision-makers through the maximum eigenvalue of the matrix of judgments. In addition to the consistence index originally proposed in AHP, different indexes have been proposed in the literature, which use the minimum element of consistency. These indices that solve some of the original consistency index problems, present others that may question their usefulness. The purpose of this paper is to propose a new index, as an improvement of the previous indexes. Among other characteristics, this new index is intuitive and easy to use, is bounded in the interval [0, 1], proposes a critical value to accept or reject matrices, that depends on the size of the pairwise-comparison matrix, and can be extended to another type of pairwise-comparison scales. In addition, the probability distribution for the new index is defined, which enables calculating the probability of a matrix being consistent, as a function of the critical acceptance value.

Solar tracker system based on a Digital Heuristic Controller D. Kang, E. A. Martinez, E. Chaparro 2011 IEEE Pes Trondheim Powertech the Power of Technology for A Sustainable Society Powertech 2011, 2011 This paper proposes a sun tracking system based on a Digital Heuristic Controller. The sun tracking device detects the differences in luminosity between a central reference sensor and four other sensors, which surround the first one in the quadrants of a shadow generating wall. This wall has the shape of a cross so as to generate shadows over the sensors, which are not directly exposed to sunlight. The central reference is located on the central/superior part of the wall, so as to rid it from the shadow generated by the wall itself and detect the maximum luminosity in the environment. An analogical/digital converter perceives the differences in luminosity between the reference sensor and each one of the other sensors and sends a signal to the digital controller installed in a PC which activates, under a programmable frequency, a rotating device built with a steppers motors with two degrees of freedom. This device orients the plane which holds the solar pane and the four sensors, locating the platform perpendicularly to the sun rays; then, if the rays alter their orientation, the tracking device follows the angular trajectory of the sun's position. A solar sensor prototype with a meter has been built and tested and a significant increase of solar radiation has been detected, if compared with a sensor in a fixed positions, which is the case of the static or fixed solar panels.
