Pedagogical strategies in teaching Sodoran dance to young performers Trisakti Trisakti, Anik Juwariyah, Bambang Sugito, Risman Iye Research in Dance Education, 2025 Sodoran Dance, as a form of cultural heritage, plays a crucial role in maintaining the identity of the Tenggerese people. However, traditional dances are increasingly at risk of extinction due to social changes, technological advancements, and shifting cultural values. To ensure its preservation, it is essential to involve young performers and apply effective pedagogical strategies for teaching and practicing the dance. This study explores the use of pedagogical strategies in teaching Sodoran Dance to young performers aged 7 to 15. Pedagogical strategies include various instructional methods and approaches aimed at enhancing learning and encouraging active student engagement. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through observations and interviews to gain insights into effective teaching methods. The findings reveal that combining behavioristic and constructivist approaches significantly improves both the technical and expressive abilities of young dancers. The behavioristic approach helps refine accuracy and precision in movement, while the constructivist approach promotes creativity, collaboration, and cultural expression. This combination provides a comprehensive model for teaching Sodoran Dance that supports the development of both technical and artistic skills. Ultimately, these strategies contribute to the sustainability and meaningful transmission of Sodoran Dance, ensuring its continued relevance among future generations..
Ecological lexicon of East Java community: An ecolinguistic study Fithriyah Inda Nur Abida, Risman Iye, Anik Juwariah Cogent Arts and Humanities, 2023 This research aims to examine the ecological lexicon of the East Java community through a linguistic ecological approach. The focus of this study is to understand the vocabulary and ecological concepts used by the people of East Java in describing wildlife and their natural environment. The research is conducted by identifying and analyzing vocabulary related to flora and fauna, as well as ecological concepts present in the language and culture of East Java.Research methods used include field surveys, interviews, language data collection, and participatory observations.Data is collected through direct interactions with the people of East Java, including farmers, local residents, and community figures who possess knowledge and experience in interacting with wildlife and the natural environment.Data analysis is carried out using a linguistic ecological approach, which involves mapping ecological vocabulary, identifying distinct ecological concepts, and tracing the relationship between ecological vocabulary and local culture. The results of the research indicate that the people of East Java have a rich and unique vocabulary related to wildlife and their natural environment. This vocabulary reflects the diversity of wildlife in the region, as well as the close relationship between the community and the natural environment.Ecological concepts, such as local wisdom in natural resource management, protection of specific wildlife, and understanding the interconnectedness between humans and nature, are also found in the ecological lexicon of the East Java community. These findings have important implications for language and cultural development, as well as environmental conservation in East Java.Preserving local vocabulary can maintain the cultural richness and identity of the East Java community, while the use of ecological lexicon in education and environmental awareness can enhance the understanding and participation of the community in wildlife and habitat conservation. The findings of this research can also serve as a basis for developing more relevant conservation policies based on the understanding of the local community.
The value of Tallu Lolona and its influence to the life of Toraja people M. Hum Sumiaty, Christian E. Randalele, Risman Iye, Fithriyah Inda Nur Abida Cogent Social Sciences, 2023 This study aims to (1) identify and describe the values that exist in the Tallu Lolona, (2) their influence for the life of the Toraja people, and (3) the strategies are employed to transmit the values of Tallu Lolona to the younger generation. The research was conducted using a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. The location of the research was carried out in Mengkendek District, Toraja Regency. The source of data in this study was obtained from informants, using non-probability sampling technique. Informants in this study are traditional and community leaders. Data collection technique using primary data is carried out through observation and interviews with parties related to research and secondary data is carried out through library research by reviewing several literatures that are closely related to the problems to be discussed. The data that has been collected is then presented in the form of a realism narrative and analyzed qualitatively by following the stages of analysis, namely: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal three primary principles within Tallu Lolona that emphasize equality and harmony among humans, the universe, and the living creatures. The core principles of Tallu Lolona lay the foundation for the Toraja community’s way of life and significantly influence their spiritual aspect (aluk todole), social relationships (pamali), and the educational development of the younger generation The transmission of Tallu Lolona values is carried out through methods such as apprenticeship, observation, and practical learning. Through these methods, the core values of Tallu Lolona are effectively preserved, despite the decline in the “rambu solo” ceremony rituals and the traditional arts of the Toraja community.
Language contextualization in public space in Maluku Province: A landscape linguistics study Risman Iye, I Wayan Simpen, I Nyoman Sedeng, I Made Netra, Ikhwan M Said, Firhriyah Inda Nur Abida Cogent Arts and Humanities, 2023 This research aims to examine the contextual use of language in public spaces in Maluku Province, Indonesia using a linguistic landscape approach. This study is descriptive- qualitative research, which aims to describe and analyze the context of language in public spaces in Maluku Province in great detail and depth, so that it can provide an accurate overview of the language conditions in the region. To collect data, this research uses participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of signboards and information scattered in the research locations in Ambon City and Buru Island. The collected data is then analyzed qualitatively using thematic analysis. This analysis includes stages of theme identification, searching for additional information, theme grouping, and data interpretation. The results show that there are many language variations used in Maluku Province, including local languages, Indonesian, English, Roman, and Arabic. The use of these languages is influenced by the place and environment in which the language is used. Additionally, research also indicates the influence of religion, culture, and media, showing that the identity of the Maluku community is greatly influenced by the language they use.
Translation, Cross-Cultural Adaptation, and Validation of the Japanese Version of the Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool (PEMAT) Emi Furukawa, Tsuyoshi Okuhara, Hiroko Okada, Ritsuko Shirabe, Rie Yokota, Reina Iye, Takahiro Kiuchi International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 2022 Background: The Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool (PEMAT) systematically evaluates the understandability and actionability of patient education materials. This study aimed to develop a Japanese version of PEMAT and verify its reliability and validity. Methods: After assessing content validation, experts scored healthcare-related leaflets and videos according to PEMAT to verify inter-rater reliability. In validation testing with laypeople, the high-scoring material group (n = 800) was presented with materials that received high ratings on PEMAT, and the low-scoring material group (n = 799) with materials that received low ratings. Both groups responded to the understandability and actionability of the materials and perceived self-efficacy for the recommended actions. Results: The Japanese version of PEMAT showed strong inter-rater reliability (PEMAT-P: % agreement = 87.3, Gwet’s AC1 = 0.83. PEMAT-A/V: % agreement = 85.7, Gwet’s AC1 = 0.80). The high-scoring material group had significantly higher scores for understandability and actionability than the low-scoring material group (PEMAT-P: understandability 6.53 vs. 5.96, p < 0.001; actionability 6.04 vs. 5.49, p < 0.001; PEMAT-A/V: understandability 7.65 vs. 6.76, p < 0.001; actionability 7.40 vs. 6.36, p < 0.001). Perceived self-efficacy increased more in the high-scoring material group than in the low-scoring material group. Conclusions: Our study showed that materials rated highly on Japanese version of PEMAT were also easy for laypeople to understand and action.
The Effect of Exposure to “Exemption” Video Advertisements for Functional Foods: A Randomized Control Study in Japan Reina Iye, Tsuyoshi Okuhara, Hiroko Okada, Eiko Goto, Emi Furukawa, Takahiro Kiuchi Healthcare Switzerland, 2022 Previous content analysis of video advertisements for functional foods identified “Exemption” advertisements. “Exemption” advertisements may imply to the audiences that “By taking functional foods, I can adopt unhealthy behaviors or I don’t have to adopt healthy behaviors”. In the context of Compensatory Health Beliefs (CHBs), this study refers to these beliefs as functional foods related to CHBs (FF-CHBs). This study aimed to assess the effects of exposure to “Exemption” advertisements for fat-reduction functional foods on audiences. The main hypothesis is exposure to “Exemption” video advertisements increases participants’ FF-CHBs. Participants (n = 788) were randomly assigned to an intervention group that viewed three video advertisements or a control group and answered online self-administered questionnaires. Intervention videos were three videos with the highest number of views per month from among the “Exemption” video advertisements. Control videos were about how to brew green tea. FF-CHBs was assessed before and after the intervention. The intervention group showed significantly greater FF-CHBs after intervention (mean = 2.37 vs. 2.11, p < 0.001, η2 = 0.026) compared with the control group. “Exemption” functional foods video advertisements increased FF-CHBs that can lead to adopting unhealthy behaviors and avoiding healthy behaviors. The content of these functional foods video advertisements should be improved to promote public health.
A content analysis of video advertisements for dietary supplements in Japan Reina Iye, Tsuyoshi Okuhara, Hiroko Okada, Rie Yokota, Takahiro Kiuchi Healthcare Switzerland, 2021 Dietary supplements are widely advertised and the market is expanding worldwide. Research suggests that dietary supplement advertising may lead consumers to make inappropriate health-related decisions, to express behaviors such as overdosing, and to neglect healthy lifestyle behaviors. We conducted a content analysis of video advertisements for dietary supplements and described the content of advertisements with high numbers and frequent views. We analyzed 82 video advertisements on YouTube that promoted fat-reduction effects. We extracted 22 themes and classified them into 10 categories. The categories with the highest numbers of advertisements were “Exemption” (i.e., consuming the product frees the audience from refraining from binge eating) (20 ads, 24.4%) and “Health Concerns” (i.e., the product intake solves the health concerns of the audience) (19 ads, 23.2%). These advertisements may stimulate negative audience attitudes toward appropriate health behaviors. The category with the most frequent views was “Lifestyle” (i.e., adding product intake to a healthy lifestyle) (3,035,298 views). “Lifestyle” advertisements portray physical activity in a positive light and may promote appropriate health behaviors in the audience. We discuss the possible effects of the advertisements on audiences and consider issues for future research and practice.
