Subgrade CBR improvement with fly ash as mineral and NaOH as a chemical admixture Sudheer Ponnada, K Rajeswara Rao, SSSV Gopala Raju Iop Conference Series Materials Science and Engineering, 2021 Increase in the rate of traffic volume and heavy vehicle loads gave a revolution in highway construction technology, this increase is due to continuous growth in economic activities. Therefore, it is necessary to construct highly durable and serviceable road structures on any type of soil. In continuation, a good subgrade can influence the thickness of road structure, increases the strength pavement, and reduce the cost of road structure construction. California bearing ratio (CBR) is a generally used in-direct method to estimate the strength of sub-grade and it directly gives the pavement thickness in pavement analysis and design work. So, if increasing in the CBR value results thicknesses of the pavement will decrease and it, in turn, reduces the construction cost of the pavement structure. In the present investigation, the collected soil samples are Black Cotton soils from Dharmapuri, Vizianagaram, AP. Same soil stabilized with various replace percentages of Fly ash (i.e.10, 20, 30, and 40%) and NaOH (i.e. 3, 5, and 7%). The Atterberg limits, Free swell Index, and CBR tests were completed on original and stabilized soils. Finally, authors observed that the considered BC soil stabilized with mineral admixture (Fly ash) and chemical admixture (NaOH) results in more than 400% increase in CBR with 40% decrease in pavement thickness, and 25% decrease in pavement construction cost.

Chandramouli International Journal of Engineering and Technology Uae, 2018 The present study is based on nano technology and came up with the idea of introducing nanoparticles in the raw materials used for construction. Nano materials are available in three principal shapes 0, 1 and 2 Dimensional nanoparticles. 0D and 1D nanofibers are such as carbon nanotubes and nanosilica compounds. This study has investigated the physical and chemical properties of graphite and graphene compound and its applicability in construction industry. Graphene has created interest as it is believed to improve the strength of concrete allowing the possibility of controlling properties of concrete. In this work graphene is used as a reinforcing additive in cement-based mortar and concrete. Own Graphene compound is prepared using conventional graphite and concentrated hydrogen peroxide in the laboratory due to the unavailability of graphene. As a part of microstructural investigation, SEM and EDS analysis on graphite and graphene compounds before and after implementation are carried out in the laboratory. Then the two compounds are replaced as a part of small percentage in cement mortar cubes casted for various proportions. The mechanical properties of cement-based composites are studied after incorporating of graphite and graphene compounds at low dosages in concrete and then the results are compared.
Study on Strength of Hybrid Mortar Synthesis with Epoxy Resin, Fly Ash and Quarry Dust under Extreme Conditions P. Sudheer, M.G. Muni Reddy, S. Adiseshu Iop Conference Series Materials Science and Engineering, 2017 Blend and characterization of Bisphenol-A diglycidyl ether based thermosetting polymer mortar comprising an epoxy resin, Fly ash and Quarry dust are presented here for the strength study. The specimens have been prepared by means of an innovative process in Extreme conditions of commercial epoxy resin, Fly ash and Quarry dust based paste. In this way, thermosetting based hybrid mortars characterized by a different contents of normalized Fly ash and Quarry dust by a homogeneous distribution of the resin have been attained. Once hardened, these new composite materials show improved compressive strength and toughness in respect to both the Fly ash and Rock sand pastes since the Resin provides a more cohesive microstructure, with a reduced number of micro cracks. The micro structural characterization allows pointing out the presence of an Interfacial Transition Zone similar to that observed in cement based mortars. A correlation between micro-structural features and mechanical properties of the mortar has also been studied in Extreme conditions.
