Proportion of Adverse Events of Injectable Collagen Biostimulators After Facial Aesthetic Treatment: A Systematic Review Protocol Lia Rosana Honnef, Manuella Salm Coelho, Júlia Meller Dias de Oliveira, Helena Polmann, Thaís Marques Simek Vega Gonçalves, et al. Journal of Clinical Medicine, 2026 Background: With the increasing demand for non-surgical facial rejuvenation, injectable collagen biostimulators such as poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA), polycaprolactone (PCL), poly-D,L-lactic acid (PDLLA) and powdered polydioxanone (PPDO) have become widely used by facial aesthetic practitioners. These agents stimulate neocollagenesis, providing gradual improvement in skin firmness, elasticity and facial contour with long-lasting results. While manufacturers emphasize the efficacy and favorable safety profile of these products, adverse events such as nodules, edema, inflammatory reactions and, in rare cases, granulomas have been reported. To date, no comprehensive systematic review has evaluated the proportion and nature of adverse effects associated with all major collagen biostimulators in facial aesthetic procedures. This study aims to synthesize current evidence on the proportion of adverse events linked to injectable collagen biostimulators. Methods: The systematic review will include clinical studies involving adults undergoing facial aesthetic procedures with PLLA, PDLLA, CaHA, PCL and PPDO that report adverse events during or after treatment. The search will be conducted in six main databases: CENTRAL, EMBASE, LILACS, PubMed, SCOPUS and Web of Science. No restrictions will be applied regarding language or publication date. The screening process will occur in two phases: first, two independent reviewers will assess titles and abstracts against the eligibility criteria; second, the same reviewers will conduct full-text evaluations. Data will be synthesized narratively, with a meta-analysis of proportions performed if appropriate. Additionally, sample characteristics, treatment protocols, study design and main findings will be reported. The risk of bias will be assessed independently by two reviewers using appropriate tools, based on the study design, with the support of artificial intelligence. Periodontal Health, Bite Force and Oral Health-Related Quality of Life of Obese Older Adults Using Removable Partial Dentures Guilherme Fantini Ferreira, Talita Malini Carletti, Lorena Tavares Gama, Thais Marques Simek Vega Gonçalves, Renata Cunha Matheus Rodrigues Garcia Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, 2026 Background Obesity is associated with periodontal disease, which compromises chewing by reducing masticatory efficiency. However, little is known about periodontal health and the use of removable prostheses in obese older adults. Objective To evaluate the effects of removable partial denture (RPD) insertion on periodontal condition, maximum bite force (MBF), and oral health‐related quality of life (OHRQoL) in obese and normal‐weight older adults. Material and Methods Edentulous older adults in the maxilla and partially edentulous in the mandible were assigned to obese (71.9 ± 5.0 years; n = 12, 6 women and 6 men) and normal‐weight (69.9 ± 6.7 years; n = 6 women and 6 men) groups. Periodontal parameters (probing depth, clinical attachment loss, gingival recession, bleeding on probing) were measured with William's probe, and plaque was assessed with the modified O'Leary index. MBF was recorded with pressure sensors, and OHRQoL was evaluated with the OHIP‐14. Periodontal parameters and MBF were measured before and 3, 6, 9, and 12 months after RPD insertion, while OHRQoL was measured before, and after 6 and 12 months. Data were analysed by repeated‐measures ANOVA with Bonferroni post hoc tests ( α = 0.05). Results Obese individuals showed higher bleeding on probing ( p = 0.02) and greater MBF ( p = 0.002) at all time points. MBF increased in both groups after 3 months, while OHRQoL remained lower in obese individuals ( p = 0.01). Both groups showed significant plaque reduction after RPD insertion ( p < 0.05). Conclusion Obese older adults wearing RPDs exhibit greater periodontal impairment and poorer OHRQoL, despite similar improvements in MBF and plaque reduction. These findings underscore the need for closer periodontal monitoring and targeted oral health strategies for obese older adults receiving RPDs. Hybrid Digital Workflow for Accurate Distal Extension Reproduction in Free-End Removable Dental Prosthesis: A Technical Report Thais Marques Simek Vega Gonçalves, Zuila Maria Lobato Wanghon, Liliane da Rocha Bonatto Drummond, Laura Costa Beber Copetti, Renata Blummer, et al. Dentistry Journal, 2026 Background/Objectives: This technical report introduces an innovative hybrid digital workflow that integrates diagnostic plaster-cast scanning with intraoral scanning to produce an accurate 3D-printed model for fabricating distal-extension removable dental prostheses (RDPs). Methods: The technique aims to overcome the challenges of reproducing the mobile mucosa in free-end saddles, a critical factor for denture base accuracy and stability. The workflow began with conventional clinical procedures, including clinical examination, impression-making, and cast surveying. After performing the required mouth preparations according to the prosthetic design, the diagnostic cast was digitized and selectively modified to allow intraoral rescanning. The prepared teeth were then scanned intraorally and merged with the digitalized cast, producing a refined virtual model for CAD-based metal framework design. The framework was digitally designed, 3D-printed to verify adaptation, and cast in cobalt–chromium. Standard RDP fabrication steps were followed, including intraoral framework try-in, fabrication of acrylic bases, occlusal registration, tooth arrangement, and functional and esthetic try-in. The final prosthesis was installed and adjusted without the need for an additional impression. Results: This hybrid workflow enabled a highly accurate reproduction of the distal extension region, outperforming models derived solely from direct intraoral scanning. By digitally capturing the physiological morphology of the mobile mucosa, the method eliminates the need for the traditional altered-cast technique, reducing clinical time, technical sensitivity, and material costs. Conclusions: The proposed approach enhances denture base accuracy, improves adaptation, and promotes more uniform occlusal load distribution in free-end RDPs. This streamlined and reproducible digital protocol offers a clinically relevant advancement, with potential to improve prosthesis stability and long-term outcomes.
