  • AI-Based Pedagogical Framework for Improving Engagement of EFL Learners in Higher Education
Aparna Gullapelly, Abdyrakman Eshiev, Dina Antar, Udhayakumar, R. Naganathan, Ratan Sarkar
International Conference on Intelligent Communication Networks and Computational Techniques Icicnct 2025, 2025
Blended instruction, which combines online and in-person learning, has become increasingly popular due to developments in educational technology and the effects of COVID-19. Engaging EFL learners is critical for academic achievement because, despite the model's versatility, it poses problems for students, especially when it comes to adapting to dual learning modalities. The study overcame these obstacles by extracting features using Independent Component Analysis (ICA) and using stringent data pretreatment procedures including encoding, normalisation, missing value removal, and outlier detection. These procedures helped uncover critical aspects impacting learning outcomes. Based on this, a hybrid predictive model was created by merging LSTM and GRU layers to improve the accuracy of learner engagement forecasts. We used accuracy, F1-score, and AUC, among other performance metrics, to compare the suggested model against a standalone LSTM-GRU architecture. Outperforming more traditional methods, the hybrid LSTM-GRU model had a remarkable accuracy of 96.24 %. Educators now have a trustworthy tool to increase student engagement, which leads to better instructional tactics, and these results show that advanced forecasting models are beneficial in making EFL learners more engaged in blended contexts.
  • Cognitive Narratives: Explainable AI for Mapping Character Psychology in English Novels
K Saravanan, R. Udhayakumar, S Hema Malini, Paul Thomas Raj V, Janani K, R. Kanagaselvam
Proceedings of 2025 10th International Conference on Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics Iconstem 2025, 2025
Understanding character psychology in literary narratives requires nuanced interpretation, which traditionally relies on human expertise in literary analysis. This study introduces a new explainable AI model that mathematically models psychological conditions of fictional characters of English novels, classic and modern fiction. The approach commences with curation of representative corpus of novels of emotive and cognitively rich novels of writers like Austen, Dickens, Woolf and Bront. Through Named Entity Recognition and coreference resolution, passages of the narrative characterized by the character are identified and annotated with sentiment and emotion, as well as cognitive traits. These characteristics are implemented into a hybrid transformer architecture (RoBERTa), which is enhanced by explainability components, including SHAP and attention-based visualizations to assign psychological meanings to particular tokens and expressions. The system uses multi-label classification to record overlapping states, e.g. guilt, pride, fear, and incorporates a temporal modeling element to follow emotional and cognitive development throughout narrative development. Empirical findings show that there is 94.3% and F1-score of 92.5% in terms of classification accuracy and F1-score, respectively, in detecting character psychological states in the different literary styles. The attention weights and SHAP values have the interpretative transparency, which allows the scholars to analyze the attributes of the attribution of certain mental states. It is a method, as well as consistent with literary psychology, that offers reproducible and scalable information on character development. This publication implies widely in digital humanities, pedagogy, and automated literary criticism. Future developments will incorporate symbolic reasoning and multimodal interpretations to make a deeper and more general catalogue of cognitively literary analysis.
  • Hybrid Random Forest and Logistic Regression Model for Predicting Student Academic Performance in Higher Education
Jamuna Rani K, Sohong Dhar, T. Indhumathi, Rohit Kumar, Udhayakumar Rajappan, Deepika G. Sarode
2025 5th Asian Conference on Innovation in Technology Asiancon 2025, 2025
The precise forecasting of student academic performance presents a significant challenge in higher education, directly influencing curriculum development and initiatives for student achievement. Current models frequently fail to accurately represent complex patterns within educational datasets. This proposed study handles the problem by presenting a hybrid model that integrates Random Forest and Logistic Regression methods to improve prediction accuracy. Random Forest effectively captures non-linear interactions and reduces variance through ensemble learning, while Logistic Regression enhances it by providing probabilistic interpretability. Two publicly accessible datasets from the Kaggle platform were utilised for examination, involving feature engineering, data preparation, and a hybrid integration approach. The model underwent extensive training and validation utilising cross-validation and hold-out methods. The suggested hybrid model demonstrated a classification accuracy of 94.2%, precision of 93.5%, recall of 94.7%, F1-score of 94.1%, and an AUC-ROC of 0.972, outperforming baseline models such as Decision Trees, SVM, and KNN. This study presents a viable and comprehensible approach for educational institutions seeking to identify at-risk children immediately and provide timely assistance. This work advances the field of educational data mining by introducing a dependable, scalable, and high-performing prediction framework that can be customised to various academic contexts.

World Journal of English Language, 2024
Writing skill is one of the four cornerstone skills in the process of learning and using English. The purpose of the study was to investigate the major cause of students’ business writing difficulties and to find out best solution to enhance their business writing skills. This research has utilized both qualitative and quantitative methods to investigate the challenges that undergraduate students at Nazareth Art and Science College. Two hundred Nazareth Art and Science College students participated in this survey. Primary data was gathered by survey questionnaires administered to a random sample of 200 students and classroom observation. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the survey data. The findings of this study reveal that various hurdles were encountered by the students in their business writing. Challenges such as limited vocabulary, lack of grammar knowledge, lack of practice and traditional teaching method all contribute to the difficulties of students’ business writing. Classroom observation data also reveals that students have trouble with vocabulary, grammar, and practice and teaching method. It is suggested that the current study's scope be broadened to include students from a variety of universities in order to get to the heart of the difficulties associated with business writing. It is anticipated that the current research would persuade university professors to give business writing the same level of consideration as other pedagogical focuses.
  • Alienation as Forced Identity: A Study of Jhumpa Lahiri‟s „The Namesake and Unaccustomed Earth‟

World Journal of English Language, 2024
Diaspora is the fusion of several cultures. The widely dispersed populace feels a sense of cultural identity. People have relocated from the beginning of time in quest of better possibilities. They integrate outside of their home and absorb values from their country. Their minds split into two halves, which they must reunite. Many obstacles stand in their way, but they eventually affect the surroundings. When moving from one area to another, not only do eating habits, wardrobes, lifestyles, and languages change, but a person’s whole behavioral pattern also transforms. Multiculturalism and hybridity provide a fresh avenue for transformation. Conversely, it causes isolation, a lack of roots, and homesickness. There is always a longing about “Where do they belong?” They feel distant despite the mixing of two cultures. Their hybridity becomes an integral part of who they are. The result is linguistic, social, psychological, and historical progress as they combine the finest elements of both cultures. They are bound to earthly reality by their affinity. While this transfusion happens, the following generation adds fresh perspectives and broadens its reach. The battle between anxiousness and a lack of roots never ends. With time, individuals tend to cultivate a more nuanced perspective on life, recognizing the value of striking a harmonious balance between tradition and modernity as the most optimal approach for the collective.

AI in the classroom instruction of languages an exciting potential effect that is altering teaching strategies and student involvement. Everything is simply achievable, including chatbots and natural-language processing (NLP) technology. Therefore, in order to verify the influence of AI on language acquisition, this study will evaluate the research, concentrating on programs like ChatGPT that provide individualized and engaged educational opportunities. Inversely, AI-driven chatbots that imitate real-world interactions, such as ChatGPT, supply very adaptable and accessible language training tools. Yet, forthcoming problems with correctness, societal prejudices, and the most suitable usage of AI stress their early promise. These demand that teachers and students improve their digital skills in order to use AI technology in a responsible and effective way. With a focus on present developments and potential futures, it highlights the crucial role artificial intelligence (AI) is playing in revolutionizing language teaching.
