Comparison of UO2 Powder Products From Reduction Process Using Rotary Kiln H-1102 and Muffle Furnace ME-11 at Pilot Conversion Plant (PCP) Facility Putra Oktavianto, Ade Saputra, Nelsa Rahmita, Andri Saputra, Imam Abdurrosyid, Triarjo Triarjo, Sugeng Rianto Aip Conference Proceedings, 2024 On the commissioning of the pilot conversion plant (PCP) facility in 2013, UO2 powder was produced, but it did not fulfill the required specifications. The rotary kiln H-1102 which is used in the final process to reduction U3O8 powder to UO2 powder is also often damaged so that the production of nuclear grade UO2 powder has trouble. Because it, a substitutive tool is needed for the reduction process. One alternative that can be used is the muffle furnace ME-11. The product from the muffle furnace ME-11 was compared with the rotary kiln H-1102 product to find out which one produced better quality. The tests carried out were testing the levels of uranium with an acceptable limit of > 87% and the content of impurities in the UO2 powder product. In the levels of uranium testing of the UO2 powder produced by the muffle furnace ME-11, the levels of uranium 86.95±0.92% were obtained, while in the rotary kiln H-1102 product is 83.43±0 59%. The resulting content of impurities above the allowed acceptance limit in the muffle furnace ME-11 numbered 5 elements, while the H-1102 rotary kiln 9 elements. Judging from its levels of uranium, the rotary kiln H-1102 UO2 powder product does not fulfill the specifications, while the muffle furnace ME-11 results are acceptable. Meanwhile, judging from the content of the impurities, the two tools have not fulfilled the required specifications. So, it can be concluded that the UO2 powder produced by both tools do not fulfill the specifications to be used as nuclear grade fuel. In comparison, UO2 powder products using the muffle furnace ME-11 are closer to the required specifications. To obtain nuclear grade UO2 powder, it is necessary to re-purify the produced UO2 powder to reduce the content of impurities that are still above the acceptable limit.
The Effect of HNO3 Molarity and TBP Concentration to The Purification of Rare Earth Metals by Liquid-liquid Extraction Method Using TBP:Kerosene Imam Abdurrosyid, Fajar Muhammad Ramadhan, Muhammad Afton Muhandis, Intan Nurhimawati, Muhammad Ilham Bayquni, Anas Fahmi Imron, Nuradam Effendy, Nadia Tina Aisyah, Zeni Ulma Aip Conference Proceedings, 2024 Rare earth metals (REM) are valuable commodities as technologically advanced materials. These materials can be used in nuclear technology, for example Dy as doping of individual dosimeter, Pm in nuclear batteries, and Sm in nuclear reactor control rods. The main obstacle in obtaining high purity LTJ is the chemical and physical properties similarity. The liquid-liquid extraction method is a purification method that is widely used because of its efficiency. TBP:Kerosene is one of the most widely used extractants in the nuclear industry. TBP is considered a stable, relatively non-flammable solvent, and produces good separation in the purification process, so most trans-uranium, namely actinide metals with atomic number >92, metal processing on the industrial scale currently uses TBP. There are many similarities between the properties of the actinides and the lanthanides, most of them have an oxidation number of + 3 and are electropositive. HNO3 molarity and TBP concentration affect the ability of TBP to bind metals and the efficiency of the purification process. REM is obtained from the Bangka monazite sand processing through an alkaline process to produce REM hydroxide as feed. The feed was dissolved by HNO3 and then extracted with TBP:Kerosene in diluted HNO3 and analyzed using ICP. Based on the results of the ICP analysis, it was found that 5% TBP rather than 30%, which was usually used in nuclear fuel production for the separation process of U, is the more efficient option for REE extraction. A different result was shown in HNO3 Molarity effect, this work showed that the significant %E decrease of Sm occurred at 3 to 4 M HNO3 and 1 to 3 M HNO3 did not give significant changes. The extraction profile obtained is not readily suitable to be used in the refining process of REM. It is necessary to carry out further experiments by utilizing the synergistic effect of TBP and Cyanex solvents.
Monostearin effects on the formation of precipitate in palm oil biodiesel and petroleum diesel blends with various storage temperature Mohamad Aufar Ghaizani, Imam Abdurrosyid, Imam Paryanto, Misri Gozan E3s Web of Conferences, 2018 Biodiesel is one of the renewable energy forms that is on demand in Indonesia. In the biodiesel production process, impurities such as Saturated Monoglycerides (SMG) in the form of monostearin that precipitate at low temperature are commonly formed. This is caused by high Final Melting Temperature (FMT) of SMG. Formation of solid deposits when it reaches a temperature above Cloud Point (CP) is then unavoidable under these conditions. The use of palm oil biodiesel and petroleum diesel blends (BXX) with biodiesel blend ratio of 10% (B10), 20% (B20) and 30% (B30) accelerates precipation process which renders clogging on fuel filters. These works examined the effect monostearin content and temperature on the precipitation rate. Investigation is carried out at 15°C, 20°C, 25°C, and room temperature (30-33°C) with varying content of monostearin (0.4%, 0.7%, and 0.9%). Early results show that for 0.4% monostearin content in 100 ml B20, the amount of precipitate formed at temperature 15 oC was 31.3 mg. This value was higher than that at room temperature (6.3 mg) after 2 weeks storage time. This value was higher compared to B20 (21.5 mg). This indicates that as the biodiesel ratio in BXX become higher, the amount of FAME will increase which effect monostearin solubility in BXX at low temperature.
