Radiography in Industry: Using X-rays and Gamma Rays for Quality Control of Metals Jepri Sutanto, Sidik Permana, Asril Pramutadi Andi Mustari, Budi Santoso, Baskan Hanurajie, Iwan Sumirat International Journal on Advanced Science Engineering and Information Technology, 2026 Industrial radiography NDT employing X-rays and gamma rays has become the primary standard for detecting internal defects such as porosity, cracks, and inclusions in welds, castings, and other critical components. Industrial radiography operates on the principle that radiation attenuates as it traverses materials without compromising the integrity of the test material. This principle applies across a diverse range of industries, including, but not limited to, oil and gas, food and beverage, aerospace, petrochemical, electronics, construction, and automotive manufacturing. Conventional radiography practices are confronted with numerous substantial challenges in the contemporary industrial era. The primary constraint is the device's capacity to generate two-dimensional (2D) images, which hinders the analysis of defects with intricate geometries. Likewise, the inspection process is time-consuming and relies on subjective interpretation by certified operators, leading to inconsistencies, human error, and inefficiency. The objective of this study is to analyze and apply radiography technology in the manufacturing sector. The implementation of digital radiography technology is expected to yield significant results. The implementation of real-time radiography in conjunction with machine learning algorithms provides a framework for proactive defect prediction and enhancement of quality assurance. Industrial radiography is currently undergoing a transformation from conventional methods to more digitized, automated, and intelligent systems. To maintain relevance and meet Industry 4.0 demands, it is imperative to adopt technologies such as 3D digital radiography and AI-based analysis to ensure quality, safety, and efficiency in modern metal materials.
Predicting the future of Indonesia: Energy, economic and sustainable environment development I Wayan Ngarayana, Jepri Sutanto, Kenta Murakami Iop Conference Series Earth and Environmental Science, 2021 Indonesia was one of the most top oil exporters which believe it has a vast fossil fuel reserve. However, after some decades of exploration, oil production decreasing gradually. In around 2004, the oil production lowers than consumption that forced Indonesia to enter the period of oil net importer. The other fossil energy resource depletion predicted will happen soon. Indonesia will enter the era of natural gas and coal net importer around 2028 and 2038, respectively. The fast depletion of fossil energy reserves, the momentum of the “golden age” population, environmental protection, and technological limitations to exploit new and renewable energy resources pose particular problems in Indonesian economic development. By using several energy forecasting results that are modelled in several ways, the discussion then is conducted qualitatively from the correlation between energy, economic, and environmental perspectives to predict the future conditions of Indonesia. From this study, we argue that there are several challenge scenarios that will ultimately overcome, especially in increasing energy security or suppressing the growth of energy consumption by curbing industrialization.
Analysis for Developing a Clearing House of Nuclear Technology using SWOT-BSC Strategies A. Bayu Purnomo, Jepri Sutanto Journal of Physics Conference Series, 2019 Nuclear R&D products are not fully accepted in the market, one of the reasons is the lack of safety assurance. BATAN has established the CHNT to conduct clearing of nuclear R&D products. However, currently the CHNT has no adequate working programs and improvement patterns. To analyse those weaknesses, a SWOT survey were conducted towards employees and took a case study of HTGR technology. The analysis result was a set of activity strategies which then be prioritized and selected based on BSC perspectives, to determine logical strategy sequence, targets and activities. SWOT strategies were expressed by combination of WO-WT-SO-ST, to overcome weaknesses and capture opportunities in improving the CHNT. All BSC perspectives were applied to explore those combination and select the best steps for the CHNT. By means of this SWOT-BSC strategy analysis, an effective development formulation for the CHNT is proposed in the form of two phase project for two years duration to support EPR program in Indonesia.
Improvement of Nuclear Science Standards (SNI) to Meet Market Needs and Harmonization J. Sutanto, P. Sulisworo Journal of Physics Conference Series, 2019 Standards are technical or standardized requirements, including procedures and methods developed based on the consensus of all stakeholders with due observance of safety, security, health, environmental and scientific and technological developments, experience, and current developments and the future to gain the greatest benefit. Nuclear science and technology standards are needed in the present time in addition to competitiveness in various industrial sectors also improve the quality, both from the process, methods and nuclear science and technology products. Currently the established nuclear science and technology standard amounts to 171 Indonesia National Standards (SNI) and 19 BATAN Standards based on competencies. The method used is statistical and monitoring method using stages according to National Standardization Body (BSN) guideline. That is through study, evaluation, technical guidance, drafting, technical meeting, consensus meeting, public hearing, polling, proposal of determination, and stipulation. The formulated and defined standards have been harmonized with existing international standards without altering the meaning of the substance and even some of the standards are the results of research and development itself (non-adoption), The objective of improving the standards of nuclear science and technology is to improve the protection of society and the environment related to the utilization of products and/or nuclear technology, enhanced quality assurance, production efficiency, national and international competitiveness and enhanced nuclear technology innovation capability as well as one part of the Clearing House of Nuclear Technology. National standard contribution at the national level is currently 1.75% of the nationally accepted standards issued by BSN.
